So Ordinary That It's Truly Quite Extraordinary

If we kept pace with our record at the time we traded Cousins, we would have received the 10th pick (if the lottery didn't get crazy). Considering Fox would not have dropped this far and the fact that we have Bogdanovic, Richardson, Labissiere, Cauley-Stein, Papagiannis, & Cousins as the core, we probably would have been looking at guys like Monk or Mitchell. For this example, let's say we drafted Mitchell (to really just show what our peak could have been) and then Mason in the 2nd round.
Just remember that pick would have conveyed to Chicago if it was any lower than 10. And I think there is a very good chance we'd have tried a playoff push if we kept Cousins and wound up losing that pick. If we kept our first rounder we'd have lost our second and not gotten one back in the trade, so no Mason. The 3 players you are suggesting we could pick for next year are projected 9-12 which would mean we'd be continually holding onto the worst level of mediocrity.

For my money everything hinges on whether Fox or Giles can become All-Stars and we absolutely nail our pick this year. Buddy has to become a core piece, and we need to get some value on whichever of the young guys we cast off.
