The final 48 hours

I was looking over nba.com's page where they give the consensus of mock drafts to see how reliable they are, and was interested to see that last year's final consensus for the top 9 draft picks were -- the top 9 draft picks. Six out of nine were 1-4 places off from their actual draft position, but the other three they got exactly correct. Overall, I was impressed.

Unfortunately, this year they are using a different collection of sites, and, more importantly, have not updated the page in weeks (last year's page was based on mock drafts immediately before draft day).

So I looked over the sites they used last year, and got their current predictions. Who do they see being gone before the 10th pick this year?
1.Oden
2.Durant
3.Horford
4.Conley
5.B.Wright
6.Brewer
7.Noah
8.Green
9.Yi Jianlian

Leading contenders for #10 are Thornton and J. Wright.

Not really what I wanted to hear. :(

Supposedly Petrie like Julian Wright quite a bit. So unless someone slides, I'd probably bet on him being the pick at #10.

Chicago just set up a last minute 2nd workout with Hawes. What they are saying is that Chicago will probably choose him with the 9th pick.

I should probably clarify: those pick numbers weren't the ones assigned by the mock drafts in most cases, so Yi Jianlian being at #9, for example, doesn't mean that most of them thought Chicago would get him. In the 7 mock drafts, he was predicted to go in these positions:
4.
5.
9. (3)
10. (2)

There was little agreement about the exact positions of most picks beyond the top 3.

Spencer Hawes or Julian Wright could sneak in there somewhere, depending on which rumors you believe. Mike Conley, Brandan Wright, or Corey Brewer look like the ones most likely to drop right now. If I were to guess, Julian Wright is probably most likely for us but with all the potential trades out there, who knows what's going to happen.

Are we going to see an Artest deal in the next two days? I hope so because it would be nice to see us get another first.

I'd rather have Artest than anybody in this draft after Oden, Durant, Horford, B. Wright.

I do think that J. Wright, a very smart and selfless player with skilled ballhandling and a good attitude, is right up GP's alley. Add in the fact that he's 6'6.5" barefoot and unathletic, and he seems almost a shoo-in. I won't be screaming in anguish if we pick him, he might be the best guy available... but I can't help but note that he doesn't fill any team needs.

I wouldn't call Julian Wirght unatheltic.

I would say that his measurements have exposed him a bit. He's just an average sized SF, not a freak.

Wait...what? Julian Wright is unathletic? Ooooooookkkkkkk.

No.

Artest is a team wrecker. I might rather have Ron's talent. But since so far as I know its illegal to stuff a sock in a player's mouth and hold a gun to his head to make him play hard, the talent is not that important. That's happened before in the NBA.

How can you call the guy unathletic? Yeah he did poorly on a measurement test thing... big deal.

If he wasn't athletic he couldn't do this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLbu7G2a98A

Not to mention he has a 9'0'' standing reach, the same as Brandon Wright. He's a SF/PF in the same mold as Josh Smith, Boris Diaw, Tyrus Thomas. All 3 of those guys played PF this year and 2 of them are very good defensive players. He can rebound with the guys who are 1-2 inches taller(he dominated Noah and Horford on the boards).

I have no idea why people make such a big deal out of the combine. Monta Ellis tested as one of the worst athletes last year... guess what he's maybe the most athletic guard in that draft. When guys are measured some are slumping so they're missing a half inch or whatever. If people are going to make a big deal about a half inch that's their problem I guess.

So perhaps if we had a sudden vacancy at the 3, Wright might be able to help Garcia fill the void?

So Garcia would become the starter. Salmons still primary backup for 2 and the 3 with Wright getting time at the 3 on occasion? Sounds about right. But hey guess what. We still don't have a big man.

SAR/KT/Williams
Miller/SAR/Williams <--------------------this is our frontcourt

Until SAR rehabs, he's a question mark, regardless of what the doctors say about when he'll be ready.

Right now it's really looking like we will take J.Wright unless Yi is still on the board. I'd even doubt that Petrie would take Brandon Wright if he fell. I'm definitely not a big fan of taking Julian, but I guess I could live with it. If we have to take one of the SF's I'd much rather it be Thad Young or Jeff Green. I just really really hope we don't take Thornton.

It doesn't make sense at all dude. The twolves are determined to trade Garnett, why would they want Ron? The won't.

Them wanting Ron of course depends on the KG deals falling through. They want another high pick in THIS draft, and why not? If they can't seem to get it done, and decide to hold onto him, they may still shift gears and then its one last shot time.

Probably irreelvant because I think that somehow, someway, they get it done with KG in the next couple of days. Too much talking, too much interest.

Even worse so actually as of right now it is

KT/Williams/Miller and a rehabing SAR ewwww. I imagine the MLE will be spent on a big this year. who is out there that will not demand a bigger deal?

Good points. Julian wright didn't do poorly on the measurement test. In fact he did unbelievably well! 6'8" with the standing reach and wingspan of a 7 footer, that is pretty crazy stuff.

who will be bummed if we just draft J.Wright and thats it. no other trades or moves?

i will be bummed for sure.

there would have to be a firework show of moves before the season started to make me happy.

if this team stands pat again and tries to pull signing players like Maurice Taylor, Woods, Salmons. along wit only having one draft pick. i would be so bummed.

We have to do something else. We don't have enough players for a full roster as it stands right now.

Bibby
Martin
Artest
Thomas
Miller
Garcia
Douby
SAR
Salmons
Williams - offer outstanding
Price - offer outstanding
Draft pick

I sure don't see us going into the 2007-2008 season with that roster.
