The art and agony of the tank (split from game thread)

Cousins/Davis have been out, and may not return for their final three road games. Affording us only one win of the remaining three to avoid that 9% if they do lose out

Yep, Cousins out the last two and Davis out against the Warriors. They have nothing to play for except a very small chance of of increasing their chances of jumping into the top 3. NY of course lost today, anyone want to bet that Dallas will roll over in Phx. This tanking game just gets uglier, I want this season over.

Dallas, Minnesota and New York have tanked so hard down the stretch. It's disgusting.

I agree with Dallas and New York. I think Minnesota has been relatively playing to win, though that's the one team I don't care about because they don't share our PG/SF needs

rooting hard for Wolves right now v Lakers. If it happens, we should be pretty well assured of at least a 3 way tie 7-9. I don't see how we beat hungry Clippers wed night on their court back-to-back. But also don't see how our bunch loses to sorry Phoenix Tuesday. Need the Wolves to take this one

Well Dallas and OKC both lost to Phoenix in the last couple of weeks so it's possible that the Suns won't completely lay down.

If Lakers knew whats good for them they would lie down. Phoenix winning today would help their chances of a top 3 pick. But this has been Minnesota's MO lately play tight till the final few minutes.

God what a disgusting heartbreaker Laker finish. I wish I could go back in time and NOT find that one on TV. Kicked in the nuts :(

By the way, I know Carmichael Dave says there is nothing to the notion that tanking creates a loser mentality, but how do you explain the Wolves still sucking this bad after all the lovely tanking and trades. Sixers too. How do you break the suck chain when you make it your first order of business to suck year after year.

The draft gods are spinning a web and their intentions are... ratings.
Devin Booker and the Suns better bring it Tuesday.

Rooting hard for the Mavs and Twolves tonight!

Mavs in true tank fashion lost big to Phoenix.

MF Lakers just beat the Wolves on a buzzer beater.

Isn't it Funny how the Lakers are the one team that should be tanking, to keep their top 3 pick and they are winning everything?

It's almost like they already know they have that top 3 pick in the bag!

We can blame the Kings. We won some stupid games after trading Cousins... :(

Blame the Kings for winning?

Welcome to the modern NBA.:(
LOL. NOW we're going to start talking about winning? NOW of all times? When we decide to rebuild after 10 years of missing the playoffs? If the Kings wanted to win, and if the Kings wanted to talk to me about winning.. then they should've done it in 2012 when we had the core of IT-Gay-Cousins!

so yea.. I could give less cares in the world about our W column when it seriously does not mean a single damn thing. What's the difference between having 27 wins and 31 wins? Do we get participation awards instead? Do those 4 wins somehow make our future brighter? It doesn't mean a single positive thing. All it tells us is that we'll have the 8th overall pick instead of the 4th.

So tell me why I should celebrate wins after an entire lost season? Moral victories for our young players? Moral victories for our vets who aren't rested? Wins at this point don't mean crap. Is this going to be another excuse of "building momentum for the next season"? Because there's a 99% chance that we'll be back here picking in the lotto again next year.

Don't mean to get at you, but it's been extremely frustrating to know that the Kings could've had a top 5-6 pick, but we won a bunch of games late in the season to push us back 3-4 spots.

So, those other times that the team "finally" decided to rebuild didn't happen, huh? This is the only one that counts, huh?

I can't wait for this whole gambit to fail, and for Divac to be thrown out on his ass, just so that, when the 2020 draft comes around, I can count up how many Kings fans have the audacity to say that the team "finally" decided to rebuild, for the fourth time in fifteen years...

Every lottery team gets one ping pong ball. Bam! Tanking epidemic over. Makes for great sports theater too.
This is a crackpot idea but could the league incentivize winning by taking the bottom 5 or 10 teams and give them ping pong balls based on winning percentage rather than losing percentage. So the team with the worst record would have the lowest chance of getting the #1 pick.

There are all sorts of reasons why this won't work (for example, it would create tanking to get in the 5th spot rather than the sixth, etc) , but a little bit of out of the box thinking probably wouldn't hurt.

Now, my other outside the box thinking includes playing 4 on 5 with the 5th guy....... (;))

Watching that interview was painful. George just needs to retire and enjoy life with grandkids.
Not sure why you posted it here, though.

it's all tied into tanking. will this organization get their crap together w/ a solid plan and stick to it? george is smart. he milked 10 steps ahead vivek outta millions as a retirement package.

And Karl is still bitter about the whole thing.

That's basically how they did it in the old days.

One team, one (frozeno_O) envelope and the Lakers or Knicks would be picking #1 every year.

You also might start seeing teams tanking to NOT make the playoffs, when they are a playoff caliber team, so they get an equal chance (3 out of 15, 20% chance) to get a top 3 pick and land the next Lebron or Durant.

I like the idea of basing lottery chances on consecutive years out of the playoffs, or maybe record over 3 seasons. I guess Philly would still Philly, most teams can't survive that.

Or have a post season tournament for losers. I don't really see any problem with trying to push bubble teams into legit contenders.

Really? Can't wait?

I hold no illusions about the Kings and it's easy to admit they have been failing at rebuilding for more than a decade, but I don't understand what pleasure is derived from watching more of it just to see who fails to observe it "logically" (because that exists among fans ).

You don't understand? No worries: http://lmgtfy.com/?s=b&q=schadenfreude

Happy to help!

The Kings really need to Lose both remaining games.

With just about every team, except for the Clippers and Jazz who are battling for the 4th seed, have nothing to play for in the final 2 games, so every team may go into tank mode, even the playoff teams.

A T-wolves or Dallas win yesterday would had helped a lot.

Now, we must take it upon ourselves and make sure to Lose the last two games, to assure we keep our pick!
