Trivia time: without looking it up or computing in your head or using a calculator (just guess for Pete’s sake) how many games would be played in the playoffs if all games went 7?

Thunder defense is really something. Haven't seen such synergy since the 2004 Pistons. They made Tyrese look so discombobulated.

It's truly a one of a kind defense. They have every basis covered and then some; beyond elite perimeter defense, length on the wings, elite poa defense, a big man stopper and paint stuffer/rim protector in hartenstein nd stretch big that can blow up the pnr in space in chet.

Some of what you say is true. We had some potential paths post Hali. But I would argue after two years in the NBA people had a pretty good idea of Hali’s path.

Why do I say this?

Because my guy in the NBA felt at the time the Kings did not get nearly enough for Hali and if teams knew the Kings were offering him versus Fox they would have offered more. I didn’t agree at the time but given 3-4 years he has been proven correct. If he knew so did other NBA executives.

I would argue Hali and Luka are about even currently and Luka @ draft time and Hali post 2 years were about equally known.
I'm generally not a fan of 2k style I could make better trades scenarios but I have come to the reluctant conclusion despite like Monte from one side of the coin, that the dude could not negotiate for the life of him and that nearly every single deal we made he either received too little in return, or threw away/mismanaged draft capital to get it over the line. The Kings should have received a FRP from the Pacers to make this deal happen. Had it been their 22 pick we then draft Sharpe or Benn and we likely do the Monk deal but skip Huerter and the pick nightmare that followed.

Despite poor asset management it may be cruel irony that Monte's ultimate undoing was being unable to get a player Fox approved of to Sac without surrendering future first round compensation that was deemed too risky if Fox still left and the team continued to regress.

I don't have nearly as much faith in Perry's talent evaluation skills but I am sure he won't continuously get hustled by every other GM in the league.

That 2004 Pistons defense was on a completely different level. They made the Lakers look like a wannabe pickup team.
The Thunder defense this year is great, but man...I don't know that I've seen a defense like that 2004 Pistons team. Nor do I think that I ever will.

To be somewhat fair to Monte some of the poor trade decision making was coming from Vivek. But if you are in charge of basketball operations and you can’t manage your manager it ultimately is your fault.
