Thank You, Sacramento Kings

All-Star
The departure of Bobby Jackson follows after many other Kings greats have left. No one has been overly shocked by B-Jax leaving, with the greatest squad coming apart since the departure of Vlade. To Vlade, Doug, Chris, Bobby, J-Will and everyone else, thank you for everything you gave us. It ended too soon, but you will always be champions in my heart. Thank you. I'm starting this thread because now in this offseason I feel we should stop and look back at what this franchise has accomplished and say goodbye to the past, one last time. We'll always have the memories, from nearly beating Utah to the 2002 WCF, one of the best series of all time. Thank you.

That sqaud was incredible, and yes, I have many thanks...tears of joy and tears of sadness with a departure short of what they set out to accomplish...a championship. That team is no more, and doesnt have to be the highlight of basketball in Sacramento. Not winning the 'big ones' really took the starch out of that team, in the end, especially in certain players, no matter how tough they were, they always left empty...short of the 'mission accomplished' ending they were searching for. And now, Geoff is putting together a whole new bunch of guys that will hopefully bring something very exciting, with more toughness, better rebounding, and yes, even the good-hearted character that the past team had that we all knew and loved. Oh yeah, lest we not lose sight of what we ultimately want as fans, and the players as well...a championship...a championship with all the trimmings that this last team couldnt provide, be it because of injuries, bad luck, injuries...oh wait, did I mention injuries?? Anyways, memories will never die, thank God, and at least we can keep them all in our hearts, as fans...I know I will, as I always have, for over 20 years now. Thanks guys!

I'd like to say that I was a lifelong Laker fan from 1966 to 1998. I'm 45 now. I suffered through many losses to Boston along the way before finally breaking through with some titles.

I loved the Kings ever since the nutso Maxwell and JW were in the backcourt flinging threes and when Vlade missed hook to beat Utah - year. Not as long as some of you, but I died and cried through three Laker titles pulling for the Kings between then and now. My kid wore his JW jersey and Peja and Bibby and Turkoglu to school and took abuse. My friends abused me, and I was published three times in the LA times praising the Kings and snidely riduling the Lakers.

The Kings played beautiful basketball. They passed to each other. They liked each other. It was beyond Chemistry, it was a hit show. It was basketball heaven when they clicked.

They deserved a title. The guys are gone but I'm sorta stuck in my Laker hating mode. I'm a King fan for life despite my zip code. Now get a big guy somehow and keep Peja, Peja and Miller and we'll get our title.

I hear that. 90803 L.B.C.

The Kings of old have passed, its time for a new identity to be found.

When I think of that Kings squad, phrases like "must-see TV," "teamwork," "the ideal offense," "heart," and "incredible" come to mind. I respected the hell out of those guys, it's too bad it didn't last longer, really.

When I think of that Kings squad, I think of goosebumps, seeing a team that literally took my breath away, chills, tears of joy (and sorrow), camaraderie, laughter, uncontrollable excitement, and - yes - teamwork.

And I consider myself extremely lucky to have been along for the ride.

When I think of the old squad, I think of all the greatness plagued by unfortunate events. Which has led me to trying to forget the semi-glory days.

You want to forget those days? It isn't all just about the destination. Sometimes it's also about the journey... those were GOOD times, with so much to remember and cherish. Don't forget them too quickly. They might not come again...

I agree. As much fun as I imagine winning it all is, being in the thick of it all is also quite the rush.

(Someday, the Poners are going to win it all, then I won't have to imagine anymore. :):( )

They are kept in a secret box that I open only when my Laker friends come along.
