Thank you David Stern.

When I first began following the Kings, I heard Stern referred to as "Little Napoleon" (don't know here I got that from).

MT @stevekylerNBA: Sources said Seattle group was compelling and more owners were probably in favor of Seattle vote, but Stern swayed vote.

Now seattle needs to sway Hansen and Ballmer out of the ownership ideal all together. Thinking you can merge with Maloofs and get ownership! What a joke!

I don't care if he swayed every single one of those votes
It was the right thing to do and we're staying, so get off our sack seattle...

Does he hate Seattle that much??

I don't think it was a display of hatred for Seattle, it was more of a "Sup, Seattle... Who's your daddy now?" type of thing - just a subtle reminder that they need to know their place and don't mess with the BOSS.

As for the other comment that Daddy Stern swayed votes - I wouldn't be surprised. The owners are in this for the $$$, it would be difficult for them to tell a fellow owner that they need to leave that much money on the table. And I'm sure the stronger argument was that they don't like telling other owners what they can or cannot do.

I imagine Stern told them that if this went thru, then be prepared for what's coming... How would you like 3 or 4 teams in the LA, Chicago, NY markets? Because you're going to get billionaires poaching on small markets to grab a team at ridiculous prices to move them to a large market. This was as much about protecting the small markets as it was about protecting the large markets.

One of the quieter investment partners that Vivek added recently was Naren Gupta:

hmmm...

a long lost half-brother, perhaps? Seriously, we couldn't have done this without Stern's active participation. Thank you sir.

Indeed. That's been their talking points for half a decade now. Stern as the bogeyman. Take no responsibility themselves. They are absolutely in the right, and all would be right in the world except for the evil troll who exists entirely to torture them and deny them what is rightfully theirs. At this point it would not even surprise me if they knowingly lied about it just to keep their fanbase motivated and united.

Ironically Stern probably rarely thinks about them at all when there isn't an active deal to consider.

With a split 22-8 decision, and a more lucrative offer from Seattle on the table, this easily could have gone the other way without Stern's guidance. Props to the man for setting the right precedent - incumbents have to lose their team through their own fault, not have to compete with someone else for it
