Terrible Kings trades proposed by the internet super thread

This is an easy yes right could even throw in ellis for the Cavs

Hmmm, no, not an easy yes with that unprotected 2027 first rounder in the deal. Garland is good but has been frequently injured throughout his career. The Kings will hopefully grab one of the blue chip prospects in next year's draft, but they're going to need more than Murray, Raynaud, Nique, and one of Dybantsa/Peterson/Boozer/Wilson. Garland doesn't strike me as an asset strong enough to sacrifice what will likely be another lottery pick in 2027. The LaVine salary dump is nice, of course, but I'm not attaching an unprotected first rounder just to jettison him when I can keep my pick in 2027 and dump LaVine that offseason, if he hasn't been traded by then.

It's excellent value, but I just don't think we can part with an unprotected FRP anymore. The time for that has passed. This would have been the kind of deal you risk after year 1 beam team (obviously not for another PG, but this sort of swing), where you trade draft capital for a win now asset to go from a good team to a contender. Not the current 3rd worst team in basketball hoping to maybe not be that in 27?

We're at the stage where we jettison guys off for future capital and/or take on bad contracts for capital. Not making win-now swings.

A rebuilding team gives up an unprotected first in the prime of their rebuild for (checks notes) Darius Garland? And that's an "easy yes"?

Yet people in here were willing to give one up for ****ing Kuminga who can’t get minutes on his team

Garland to me is good enough to trade that pick in what is allegedly a weak draft. If anything just make it top 2-3 protected then and in the spurs useless pick. Garland is a two time all star in his mid 20’s the chances of hitting on a pick is good as that are slim.

The Kuminga talks were way different because we weren't 7-22 at the time those were going on. That situation is has drastically changed at this point now that we have more information on the direction of the Kings going forward.

Which, is the same reason why Garland really doesn't make a ton of sense for us, even if a good value deal. He's a win-now player that's going to be very expensive the rest of the career. The Kings aren't in a position to win for a couple seasons at least.

Get a couple high picks over the next few years, hope that Nique/Maxime/Cardwell continue to develop with our high rookies and when the core is in a good place again, that's when you go swing for this Garland type bet.

Well I certainly wasn't willing to part with a future first-rounder for Kuminga, but as @The_Jamal noted above, the context between these situations is different.

I'm not ready to make any pronouncements about the quality of the 2027 draft class, and while Garland is a good player who's just hitting his prime, his injury history bothers me enough that I just wouldn't sacrifice a 2027 first rounder that would be more comfortably cost-controlled. Garland's on a fairly pricey deal that runs through 2028, and the Kings need to manage their cap well as they work on this rebuild.

Nvm misread the 27 draft. Still wouldn’t do it

Giving up an unprotected pick, or top 2-3 protected, in this draft for garland is beyond stupid . Not sure where you are getting this is a weak class

We always hear “this year is a weak class” then when is all said and done has multiple all stars. And vice versa “this is a strong draft” and most of the lottery busts. It’s always been unpredictable and likely will always be.

While for the most part that’s true, everyone was calling the 2024 draft class weak and they’ve thus far proven to be 110% correct lol

The only Cavs trade I'm interested in is a package deal with the Kings getting both Darius Garland and Jarrett Allen and the Cavs getting Domantas Sabonis and Malik Monk. I would have made that trade over the summer since I think Garland and Allen would fit well with our young guys and Cleveland is in an awkward position of being fully committed salary-wise to a roster that isn't good enough to win their conference.

Now that we're headed for top 5 lottery territory I'd rather wait and see what happens with the draft first. Garland and Allen make sense right now but might not after we see what happens in the draft. And while a 35-40 win team would benefit from guys like Garland and Allen, a 20-25 win team might be better off building around younger and cheaper players.

Yeah, no way do the Kings want that contract at this point. The Kings should be checking on who has their MLE to trade. Schroder is a candidate for a full sweep out if they can find one.

The Kings are in a position to clog up a lot of other teams' salary caps for the Summer of 2026 and/or sabotage some of their competition for a top 5 pick (namely New Orleans who doesn't even own their own pick and LAC/DAL who are risking full-on fan revolt by sucking so bad). We might not be able to get long-term assets back for guys like DeRozan, LaVine, Westbrook, and Schröder but there are other ways we could use them to improve our overall situation.
