sunday's game @ washington has no tv coverage?

I could have sworn that there were one or two non-televised Kings games last year, even with Comcast. I wanna say Washington Wizards or Memphis Grizzlies. Oh wait, I no longer have NBALP. Thaye may have been on NBALP.

It used to be the Toronto game wasn't covered by League Pass, so it was generally not seen. Other than that, I believe all the games were shown on League Pass, provided they weren't blacked out because of national coverage or conflicts in certain areas with local coverage, such as a game carried by News10...

How are they able to change the ABC schedule? I know that ABC has a say, but doesn't the NBA also have a say in the games televised? Did they substitute another game for it? It REALLY stinks.

I only get the radio feed by listening online, so I always look forward to the games I get to see. I have to admit, that I would be ticked off if I normally got to see all the games and then missed one. Now, I am even more mad when I get to see so few and now that has changed.

Also, those who follow along with VF's PBP, you REALLY want her to be able to get the game so you can follow! Eventhough I listen to all the games, I LOVE to read VF's comments. Great insight that we will miss if she does not get to see it!!

Not seeing the game when I fast forward to SUN... I do think its odd ABC would choose this game anyway considering the others that are going on.

The official word from the Kings is that the game "will not be televised locally." I don't know if that leaves it open for any wiggle room or not.

:(

P.S. Thanks for the kind words about my PBP, chelle. I really appreciate it.

:D

In the paper this morning, too, it said that Comcast could not secure the rights to it (presumably on such short notice?) so it will not be televised.

I want to send an email/phone call/letter to put pressure on someone to televise this game. I'm thinking that sending something to the league is the best option.

The NBA website gives this as a starting point, but I'd like to email David Stern directly :D

Any ideas on contact numbers/email?

!
Chelle-

Where are you able to listen to games online? I've tried thegamelive.com but am never able to find the games. I even try both cities feeds.

boo hoo, you guys miss a game...i live like a couple hundred miles away from sacramento, but i get to seee like 20 games a year (nationally televised games and News 10 games)...the cable in my area does not carry Comcast

Um, what in the heck is the whole attitude about?

The thread was started to exchange information about a game previously scheduled to be televised nationally that it now appears won't be televised AT ALL.

I don't understand why this has to become contentious among Kings fans.

What I find amazing is that they fail to televise this game but they found a way to televise the season opener against NOK in Oklahoma City.

The problem is the late change in plans.

ABC had contracted for the game, so Comcast didn't. Since ABC apparently pulled out at the last moment, no one is able to pick up the slack in a time. At least that's my best guess. I have real problems with ABC doing that, but there's nothing we as fans can do about it.

:(

And here is the email address for ABC. Give 'em hell for pulling the plub AND effectively prohibiting anyone from seeing the game.

I think David Stearn signed a bad contract. *IF* you are going to give the rights to ABC and prohibit others from broadcasting, then you should *require* ABC to broadcast. Stearn shouldn't simply sell the "option" to broadcast a game.

Any sports event contract contains a clause that says the network retains the right to substitute another game. They pay a lot for the games and they have to contract for them way in advance. You really can't blame them if they decide to pull the plug on one that most likely won't garner much interest in favor of one that might attract more viewers. Viewers = ratings = happier sponsors.

I think the whole thing sucks but I can understand why ABC did what they did. At least this way we won't be watching and all of a sudden have them decide to switch games because ours isn't exciting enough or something. THAT is what really torques me.

...

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that something will happen and we'll be able to see the game. It's not based on anything but hope...

Well, I know Comcast has come through before (when they signed the deal to cover the games) and broadcast games they weren't "assigned", so you never know.

As far as Ch 10, I would think they might be able to if it was a home game, but I'm not sure how they'd get an away game covered....

And I don't know if they could do that even if they wanted to - wouldn't they have to get ABC's permission first?

ABC will NEVER release their rights to a game, so a Cable Company can show it against the game shown by the Network...with that said, I think Network executives molest small animals.....they make Tort Lawyers look ethical....next insult....anyone????

SCREW ABC

they should at least localize the games like FOX does for NFL games. show philly up north and sac in the southwest and southeast.

make sure you post the site where you can listen to the game VF. Its strange because the last 3 years i didn't have LP and i dealt with missing all those games. Now i have and its like a Greek tragedy because i am missing my first game all year. BTW i was in the pregame shots before the Atlanta game from last year. If i had known the arena would be that empty i would have just drove up there right after work

Napear just confirmed that its a radio only game.
yup...and both CSN and News 10 are only able to broadcast the games that they are slotted to at the beginning of the season, unfortunately. I'm disappointed that this game isnt on TV, but its only 1 of 82, remember when we only got like 50 or so games, even back in the days of FSN carrying the Kings...THAT was a bad contract. I can definetely enjoy 'only radio' for one game.

It would be nice if they would at least allow the game to be shown via tape delay so as not to interfere with ABC's exclusivity. Still I doubt league pass would pick it up so those of us outside Sac would still be SOL. I suppose rescheduling is out of the question thanks to the Oscars.

It's not that ABC won't release the rights. According to Grant, ABC does not allow ANY televised games in the time slot that the game is playing. Therefore originally, whatever game is being substituted would not have been televised. But since the Kings got the boot, yet are still in that awkward early ABC timeslot, ABC does not allow their game to be broadcast. At least, that's what I got from Grant. But I could be wrong.

That is correct. What could have happened...and didn't...is that as soon as ABC pulled the plug, the League should have backed up the start time (so it would no longer be during the ABC time slot). Then anyone could have broadcast it.
