If we don't play lakers, we might as well not play at all.

exactly... its tradition.... but then again... we didnt play the mavs in the playoffs this year..... a change is coming.....

Lakers are not in this summer league. They are only going to the Summer Pro League in Long Beach (at the Pyramid at Long Beach State) which runs 8-23 July. This year only the Lakers, Griz, Mavs, Raptors and Heat are signed up so far.

In the SPL the amateur and semi-pro teams fill the first 4-5 days then the NBA teams begin. Here you can see and NBA summer team play a team mixed with amateurs, NBA players, NBDL and even a Euro or two. Some years national teams will come to the summer leagues. I’ve seen Puerto Rico, Australia, Venezuela, and a euro team or two attend and play. Two or three years ago Magic Johnson had a team in the SPL and we got to see one of the greatest, and he still had flashes of some of his spin moves and passes.

Then there is the Rocky Mountain Review in Salt Lake City 15-22 July. A short Review as there is only 5 or 6 teams there this year as most of their regulars are going to Vegas.

First summer league roster names from Marty McNeal's article in the Bee this morning:

Percy Miller (Master P), SG, 6-4, 220
Kevin Martin, SG
“Cisco” Garcia, SG
Erik Daniels, SF, 6-8, 225
Ronnie Price, PG, 6-2 Utah Valley St
Marcus Campbell, C, 7-0, 270, Miss St
Patrick Okafor, PF, 6-8, 250, Hou
Guillaume Yango, PF, 6-9, 250, Pacific

I found these scouting reports from a variety of websites on a few of the guys on the Kings' summer league team. Who knows? Remember that Mo Evans was a summer league guy.

Marcus Campbell: 7'0'', 270 lbs., center (Mississippi State):
Scouting Report: Left-handed space-eater, not the most mobile pivot player, but he does have big upside ... Has nice touch around the rim ... Works off the left block, faces, and drives for the running left hook ... Goes to the middle every time on offense ... Looks lost sometimes when he is not involved on offense ... Good footwork, poor hands on offense ... Does a solid job on the boards because he's difficult to dance around on the blocks ... Stays on the floor on defense ... Surprisingly, can't be forced into mistakes on defense, where he boasts fine instincts ... Mediocre shot-blocker at 7-0 because he lacks reaction speed ... Still short on polish but has the physical strength to make an impact.

GuillaumeYango; 6'9'', 250 lbs, PF (Pacific):
A terrific inside presence ... Has a muscular build ... Extremely athletic, a quick jumper ... Possess great boy control ... Doesn't have the most polish but his toughness and natural talent are enough to make his productive ... Draws fouls ... Plays within himself ... Needs to improve his ball-handling ... Is improving constantly ... Averaged 10.2 points and 5.8 rebounds as a junior ... Had the fifth best single season field goal percentage (.580) in Pacific history ... Over the last seven games of the season, averaged 17.4 points and 6.7 rebounds per game ... A transfer from JUCO powerhouse College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls, Idaho ... Posted 17.0 points and 15.0 rebounds per game on a 24-6 team as a sophomore ... Attended Les Arcades High School in Dijon, France ... Les Arcades went 24-6 overall during his senior season ... Scored a career high 38 points and hauled in 16 rebounds against Besangon in 1999 ... Helped Les Arcades win the French Championship in 1998.

Ronnie Price: 6'2'', 190 lbs., guard (Utah Valley State):
Named NCAA Division I Independents Player of the Year as a senior. Also earned USBWA All-District 8 honors. Named All-Independent as a junior. Started collegiate career as a walk-on at Nicholls State, where he played one season before transferring to Utah Valley State. Utah Valley State was a junior college his sophomore year so he was eligible to play immediately, and he made the decision to stay at the school as they transitioned to NCAA Division I status.
Senior (2004-05): Would have ranked third nationally in scoring (24.3 ppg) if it were not for Utah Valley State’s status as a provisional Division I member. Led team in scoring every game but five. Surpassed the 30-point mark eight times, with a season-high 36 points vs. Northern Colorado. Recorded 35 points against Oral Roberts, Montana State and at UMKC. Registered 34 points, eight rebounds and seven assists vs. Boise State. Tallied 24 points at Nebraska. Hit six three-point field goals on four different occasions. Helped UVSC to a 16-12 record in their first full year of Division I competition.
Strongly built and athletic point who can score in a variety of ways while making others better. Strong defender who is always around the ball.

Patrick Okafor: 6'8'', 250 lbs., PF (Houston):
Incredibly strong low post player with good hands. Overpowers players on the low block and has crafty low post moves. A passionate player who is an excellent rebounder and has shown improvement from year to year. Made a strong showing as a CBA rookie averaging 10.9 points per game, 6.4 rebounds in 22 minutes per game after being a first team all star in the USBL. In addition he shot 57% from the field in the CBA, which was fifth best in the league and he is a good free throw shooter (77%)

Thanks. Good inputs on relative unknowns. Any Stockton area KingsFans ever see him play?

Skinny on Yango

G has a shot at making at least the IR of this team this year. Natural PF, with great athleticism, runs the floor well. Best asset is his soft hands, he catches and finishes well in transition. His shot is inconsistent from game to game, but he can use both hands around the hoop and has a jumpshot out to about 17 feet. Quick off his feet leaper, which helps him get rebounds, also very strong for the college level, but we'll see how it translates to a pro style of game.

He has been training with the French National team this summer, played club ball while in HS on the same team as Tony Parker and Mikeal Pietrus. Pietrus remains his best friend, as they went to each others games frequently.

According to Pardon The Interruption (7/1), Terrell Owens wants to test the waters of playing basketball. Evidentally, the Maloofs have extended an invitation to Owens to play with the Kings Las Vegas Summer League team. The Maloofs asked Owens to get permission from the Eagles before he could play, though.

If the Eagles let him play, that would be kind of good because he might be good at bball, but I'm not too sure if I want him on the Kings, with his bickering, attitude, and money pursuits.

I'm curious as to how this will play out, and if there is any chance the Eagles will let him play bball.

*EDIT* Shoot, I didn't see the whole new thread....aw well...sorry*Edit*

After seeing the great info provided by DiabeticWonder, thought I'd throw in some tidbits about two of the big guys I never heard of, Jared Homan and Robert ARchibald.

Senior center Jared Homan the only legitimate big man (on ISU team). Homan has good size and moments of great effort on the glass and as a defensive stopper, but his inconsistency can be maddening.

A staple in Iowa State’s lineup, Homan gives ISU toughness and energy...a fierce competitor who can battle underneath and block shots...already one of the best shot-blockers in ISU history and has improved his offensive ability each season...one of the most improved players in the league last season and has the ability to be one of the top post players in the Big 12.

Homan ended his career as one of the best post players in school history. The Remsen, Iowa, native is ISU's all-time career leader in blocks (235) and he ranks sixth and 20th, respectively, in the school's career rebounding (777) and scoring (1,124) charts.

Robert Archibald. A banger that competes hard, and plays within his ability. Excellent rebounder with great toughness and size. In the post, he is a "plodder" but somehow gets it done, converting on 66% of his field goal atttempts last season. He plays hard, is unselfish, and can pass the ball a little bit. Decent free throw shooter at 68%. ...He's strong, hyper, and fiesty. ...Once got a Techinical Foul while sitting on the bench. ...From Paisley Scotland.

I like Yango a lot out of this group and also Tre Simmons. I think he can be a good player. I'm kind of disappointed to not see any of the Morris, Winston's, Gilchrest or any of those pretty big name undrafted players. Overall it should be interesting.

be careful. The NBA-TV games will be delayed 3-5 days. You will not see them in real time!!!! The Kings-Clippers game on 7/13 will not air until 7/19 !!!! not THAT sucks.

I'm happy they are coming are being aired on NBATV this is the first year in which I've had NBATV that I was actually interested in watching the channel during the summer...thanks for the heads up about the delays CD and thanks for the general info GoSacTown

Maloof Sports should be working harder to get a lot more Kings related stuff out for the fans. For example, I think it would have been a real plus to have Garcia's first press conference broadcast ... I know a lot of Kings fans who would really have liked it.

Some coverage of the summer leagues would have been nice, too. Build up the excitement for the coming season... For savvy businessmen, I don't understand the Maloofs some time. They have the means in place. Why they don't utilize it to the full extent seems puzzling...

Why do that when you can invest all your time in "Party at the Palms" and "Project Greenlight" :D

NO JOKE!!!

master p has some size on him.... 6'4 220.... has almost 40lbs on martin.... kevin needs to hit the gym badly... that or go on the ostertag diet....

i'd love it if master p made the team.... he wouldnt be very helpful but garbage time would kick some serious ***.... everytime he scores they play "make 'em say ugh..." why didnt he try out for the hornets? being from n.o. that and they suck.... they wouldnt be any worse with him on the team....
