Vegas Summer League is fantastic.
It usually costs between $22-$25 for the entire day. Each day they play between 4 to 6 basketball games. The Thomas & Mac center have two different basketball courts. There is the woman's basketball court and the men's basketball court.
Every day they will play 4 games in the woman's basketball court, and typically after a couple of days as more teams join, they will usually play 1-2 games on the men's court.
I vastly prefer the women's court as it's a far more intimate basketball experience. It is open seating, and first come/first serve. So you'll go and find a great place to watch the game, and as the different teams get on the court people will come and go, and you can always move around to find a better place.
I typically sit right at Center Court about 15 rows up to have a nice vantage point, but it's not that difficult to find open spots in the first 5 rows.
They have a nice Summer League program you can purchase for around $10, which lists all the teams participating, their rosters, and their 1st and 2nd round draft picks to keep an eye on. It always has a couple of errors, but it's a nice handy tool to have, especially if you're planning on watching 20+ games during the course of the week.
As far as food goes they serve your typical arena food. Hot dogs and nachos are around $3 a piece.
The crowds are also great. You'll have your scouts/owners/GMs all there but in addition, the fans who attend are typically very knowledable about basketball, and for the most part quite respectful when interacting with fans from other teams.
On some days it seems as if schools will bus their kids to one of the games to root for a particular player. That can be a bit obnoxious, but fortunately it doesn't happen every day or for every game.
Also, there isn't that much of a home-court advantage for any team. Obviously Vegas is Laker territory, but the Laker team they field during summer league is pathetic, so there isn't too much energy there.
Last year all the hype was around Blake Griffin and Golden State. Golden State as you know has Summer League superstars Anthony Randolph and Anthony Morrow, and they also had Stephen Curry. So people get excited about watching Golden State play in summer league.
In last year's summer league the player who impressed me the most that I didn't know much about was Rodrigue Beaubois. I thought he easily outplayed Brandon Jennings in their head-to-head match-up, and just had great games all the way around. Though he didn't get much playing time this year, all of you who saw that final Spurs/Mavs game got a taste of what I was seeing consistantly from him in the games I watched in Summer League.
My wife is now a huge Tyreke Evans fan. And she always talks about how happy she is that she was there in person to see Tyreke play his first game against other NBA teams, even if the game wasn't official.
Not surprisingly they also have set autograph signings every day, so my wife and I got autographs and pictures with Tyreke when he had his autograph signing time. I imagine we'll be able to do the same with our high draft pick this year.
Anyway, it's a great basketball experience, and something that you should really try to see if you have the opportunity. This is probably my favorite week of the year. A full week in Vegas, with five days of 8 hours of up-close and personal basketball, with the off-days having fun doing other things in Vegas.
