Stojakovic @ B92: Webber didn't leave because of me.

Prospect
B92: The word was NY, then Dallas, and eventually, Chris Webber ended up in Philadelphia. Your reaction?

Stojakovic: As everyone else, I too was surprised since my name was also mentioned, so I was prepared to leave. Nobody expected Chris would be the one traded, nobody in the team talked about it - it just happened.

B92: What was the official explanation from Maloofs and Petrie.

Stojakovic: His contract, injured knee, that was the official story. The other version is that they're making a new team, team with new direction. With Vlade, Webber and Doug gone, team is formed around us younger guys.

B92: Do you know how Webber reacted when he found out about it, have you spoken afterwards ?

Stojakovic: He went to Sacramento to pack, then he's going to Philadelphia. I tried to call him, after all we've been teammates for 7 years, I'm the oldest guy here now, but he didn't get back to me. Surely he is shocked because of the trade. Webber is a pretty good guy and we really have an OK relationship. All the stuff about me being the reason for him being traded is just stupid, nonsense.

B92: So all the stories about a rift between the two of you were made up ?

Stojakovic: Cream and nothing else, just so the people could sweeten up a little. (this answer is also a bit fuzzy in Serbian, rather unusual analogy/metafore )

this is not the entire interview, I'll try to post the rest of it later for what its worth...

I certainly wouldn't pin it on individual moves affirmatively made by Peja as the reason why CWebb was traded. Whether or not Petrie looked at the situation as a Peja vs. CWebb situation is another matter, and in that department, Peja is younger, generally healthier, has shown he can perform at a high level, and doesn't have an albatross contract. Are there arguments to be made for CWebb? Sure, but at this point they are academic. Decision has been made.

And, as Voison (sp?) mentioned today in her chat, Bibby might, just might be a better player if he isn't constantly relying on CWebb. Could be a bit of the same logic that caused the Magic to ship Cutino to the Kings.

And he also mentioned that he won't be back until Charlotte or Orlando game, cause he needs to be 100% healthy. So he is no show for saturday.

and he also said at the end of interview "see you in Dalas in the frist round".
so he probably expects us to be 4th or 5th and same for dallas.

Kings better start winning some games if they want to hold onto the 5th seed...

From the 1998 team You are the only player left. A compleate new team ?

Stojakovic: I am not exactly sur what kind of talent level we have. Biiby, Miller Jackson and I are still here but lots of new guys came. First Mobley and now 3 other guys. We will need some time to get used to each other and get enough wins to get to PO if we get there.

You said "if' - having doubts ?

Stojakovic: 28 games left 5th, 6, 7, 8 seed are very close. It is pretty sure that we are not going to have HCA in the first round. I think that in WC all 7 teams after Spurs are pretty equal. Onlt Spurs are very constant and lock for PO - if TD stays healthy.

You asked for a trade this summer and it is past the deadline. Do you feel better or worse now ?

Stojakovic: I did not spend much time thinking about it I asked for a trade becauce I thought that it would refresh me and the team. I said that to the owners but they did not accept it because they thought that I need to stay. I really love Sacramento and the Kings. I am here since the beginning of my NBA career and I feel home. Now that deadline is over I will definitely be here till the summer. What happens after that I do not know. I can not control that but I hope I will stay.

There were talks about You going to LA for L.Odom

Stojakovic: There were also other teams mentioned like Clippers, Raptors, Bulls. Even though I did not pay much attention to it - I was mentally prepared for that to happen. I did not think about that as some kind of shock. I told myself that it is my job and as long as my carreer lasts I will play wherever I get sent. That is a ro;e of the NBA player.

You would probably like to play with Vlade again ?

Stojakovic: His career is getting to an the end. He will play this season, maybe next. I told him nicely to stay with Kings (said with smile).

How is the injury ?

Stojakovic: I got injured during the Boston game. It feels little better. I need to have a good practice before I can play again. I will probably sit out till Charlotte or Orlando because You have to be really carefull with reinjuring the hamstring. I want to be back with 100 % of my abilities. I do not want to miss any more games.

Before Pedja left he said: See You in Dallas for the first round of PO

it was somehat negative although i def. liked the whole thing with see you in dallas....he said clearly that he thinks they have no chance of home court and that they mite not even make the plaoffs at all... wwhile i agree that he is trying o be realistic, he has to inspire his teamtes weith a better attitude than that...on the the other thread people were complaining that he said his goal was to make the playoffs....wait till they see this

I do not see anything negative. NEWSFLASH - we will not be tha 4th seed. Even Brad said that the goal is to get in the PO. It does not matter what they say. It is what they do. I did not hear a Suns playes saing that they would win the division before the season. Let's see how it goes ? I have NO doubts whatsoever.

i have to admit i cant really argue with ur logic...we'll see what happens tho

People need to quit inferring that this trade was a Peja - Chris dispute resolution. The fact is it was all about Chris, not as a person because in that sense Chris's conduct was professional. It was about the CWebb and his game that we paid top dollar for and has subsequently diminished drastically requiring volumes of attempts to put up the same numbers as before robbing the offense of movement and of diminished lateral mobility on defense rendering our defense ineffective in the paint.

I really wish we could have traded Peja instead of Webber. On one hand we have Webber saying that he loved it in Sacramento and wanted to spend the rest of his career here while retiring in a Kings jersey. On the other hand we have Peja saying "Now that deadline is over I will definitely be here till the summer. What happens after that I do not know."

It looks like Peja really doesnt want to play here. He may say whats politically correct but if he really wanted to play for Sacramento then he would make more of an effort to get his point across. Exactly the way Chris did. Chris Webber will always be the real King in my mind. Peja may have the skill, but he doesnt have the fire or determination to take this team to the finals.

Keep in mind that some stuff is lost in translation. Writen words cannot show emotion (unless you are Brad Miller :) ). Peja opened his mouth once and he made a mistake and few enemies. He should do what VF21 told him long time ago... Shut up and play. I don't care if he acts mute off the court as long as he brings his A game every night.

People are not very forgiving around here and it takes time to win them over. IT was hell around here right before Webb's return last year when it was announced that he will serve 8 game suspension upon return. It took awhile for people to get over it.

We had a bench mob, but people around here sometimes act more like a lynch mob. Again in words of VF21 it is the name on the front of the jersey that matter, not the one on the back.

Stojakovic: I can not control that but I hope I will stay.

You know, I wasn't much into the whole Peja vs. Chris thing but there's gotta be something there when Peja says the simple words I've been waiting to hear all season long right AFTER Chris gets traded. Go figure. Somehow, this has been less than satisfying even though it's what I wanted all along. The situation has somewhat spoiled it.

As someone who has read your posts on this subject and disagreed with you, I must say that I agree with you here. At the same time, I am glad to see that (for now at least) both Pedja and Chris a taking the high road and making only positive statements on the subject. We may never know for sure whether they had a real problem with each other (professionally, I cannot imagine either of this guys getting really personal and "hating" on each other).

i think thats being a little bit too nit-picky don't ya think?

people are now reading interviews with Peja and LOOKING for something to make a big deal out of

Yeah that, I thought could be one of the reasons behind the trade. And I don't think its just Bibby, its also Miller. Actually the entire Kings offense, it was centered around Webber.
So they would expect Miller to shoot more. But the question is with Webber gone, the rest of the guys will be defended better. So lets see how well they can play without Webber. Could go either ways.

One person to look out for is Songiala.

^I agree with bibbyweb and 4cwebb's post. Darius is a person I'm looking out to also.

Thanks for posting and translating the interview, guys! :)

I agree completely. The timing is way coincidental. I have been looking for signs he's changed his mind every time I saw a quote from him over the last several months. Now that I've found it I just don't know what to do with that.

yea i agree as well...after piksi posted his/her response to my comments, i went and reread the article and just see the whole thing differently now

I think it would have been nice for Webber to return his phone call. After all, he did have a seance with his pals before leaving.

Yeah, Webber should have left everything he was doing and be waiting for Peja's call
He probably would when he does have time.
And so sweet of Peja to mention that yeah I was the nice little boy to call up and Webber didn't reply.

You know what is funny? On Thursday morning's Rise Guys, the reporter Chad??? from ESPN actually said he spoke with Peja's camp and they were ecstatic. That getting rid of Webber was the plan all along and it is what Peja and his camp have been pushing for since the beginning of the season. When asked if HE acutally heard that from someone in the camp, he came back with a resounding yes. This was Peja's plan supposedly from the beginning and according to this reporter who spoke with his people, Peja was a last resort trade. The whole time it has been Webber, if they couldn't get rid of him than maybe Peja.

Did anyone else here that?

please believe that

You need a PF, and KT is an unknown commodity for me. As for whoever fills in the PF spot is getting into pretty big shoes, eventhough we don't really expect him to do what Webber used to do. How well Songiala does will have definite impact on our season.

I wasn't posting any of that Peja v. Webber garbage, I was just saying it would have been nice. It would have only taken 5 minutes or less.

I would appreciate it if people would not put me in that little club. Thanks.
