Steve Kerr to the Dubs

I first of all wanna congratulate Mr. Kerr on getting his very first head coaching job in the National Basketball Association...

Now that I have gotten that out of the way, allow me, if I may, to say that this is a very nice hire by the Warriors. Kerr, in my opinion, has been one of the enjoyable ones to hear call the games over the years, and I think he has a wealth of basketball knowledge that I believe will transition very nicely to the head coaching ranks. Do I expect him to be the next Phil Jackson or Gregg Popovich? No. Do I expect him to be a pretty nice head coach for the Golden State Warriors? Absolutely. I think this is a great hire.....

Here's a link to the ESPN.com article....

I was really surprised at first that he went with the Warriors instead of the Knicks. On second thought though, I'll bet his favorite player in the league right now is Curry. He probably wants to see if he can max out his talent

This must mean we will hire an ex-player turned analyst/commentator as well, especially since its the second time for them. Remember, everything the Warriors do MUST be replicated.

Kerr has his reasons for Golden State but location, location, location seems to be the clincher. He's lived with his family in San Diego area for many years. Three kids grew up there, one still in high school, one at UCSD and one at UC-Berkeley. I think maybe his wife and kids helped push him in direction he ultimately went - not wanting very long commute to NYC.

That, and who the heck would rather coach the Knicks than the Warriors right now?

I like this move for Kerr and the Warriors (and to a much lesser extent the Wildcats of Arizona solidifying their recruiting base). Glad he didn't go to the Knicks. One of my favorite Cats and a class guy I hope he does well. He certainly was quite critical of all the iso MJax ran so expect a much different look.

I see this as a lateral move by Golden State. I'm not sure I really understand it, Kerr has zero experience the same as Mark Jackson did. Not sure what they are expecting with the current roster in tact.

It may be a lateral move in terms of trading one unproven talent for another but I do think their approach will be night and day. Kerr was never supposed to make the NBA, he was eyeing the sports management route as a senior a UA. If not for a summer injury playing for a team most people thought he had no business on which allowed him one fifth and final year at Arizona which coincided with their arrival as a top program in the nation, who knows if he'd ever gotten a crack in the league.

One thing is for certain, he's played under some of the most legendary coaches in the game and was strongly admired by both Lute and Phil.

I think the Warriors might be comfortable with another young coach that will hopefully be the team player that Jackson wasn't. It might be a more proven coach would want more of the authority that made ownership uncomfortable with Jackson. It seems there are quite a few hands in the cookie jar down there and ownership prefers it that way.

Someone want to try to explain to me what the hell exactly Steve Kerr did to become such a hot head coaching candidate?

I'm not sure he was a hot candidate around the NBA so much as a perfect candidate for two openings.

Warriors went after Stan Van Gundy who was seeking full roster control, their ownership clearly wasn't going that direction so went to Kerr. Kerr is a lot like Jackson in many ways, highly respected as an analyst and as an all around guy. Has managerial but not coaching experience and came fully loaded. The Knicks job, well he would have just been Phil's disciple. It kind of makes sense that if Phil is looking to expand his legacy he'd also double down and bring in one of his former players.

Throw in two interested parties and it becomes a race.

Just like every arm chair coach he has never lost a game ;) And yes soon he will find out how much easier it is to coach from the announcing booth.

Makes no sense whatsover. Jackson has more NBA coaching expience than Kerr. This move has much more of a possibility to do great harm to this org than great good.
