Status update?

I have heard this argument before in regards to the Kings, and now i will reiterate it.

If you love something, let it go, hopefully it comes back to you.

I thought I had heard it all until "FakeInjury" came along. Quite possibly the dumbest statement in the history of Kingsfans.com. Maybe FakeInjury is really Heather Fargo.

The Mayor, City= Us, our neighbors.

The people in charge would love to get something done. It is exactly the type of flashy deal with longevity that looks great on a resume.

However, so long as public opinions stay the way they are, public officials will never openly support an arena using tax payer dollars. Voters have already made their opinions heard by rejecting the proposal last year. It's as simple as that.

The current approach is the best approach- backroom, with business men and individuals who won't have to answer to the local public.

Things could really get interesting for the arena situation should Kevin Johnson become the new mayor. He has a track record of getting things done down in his area, tho' he did spend a bunch of his own money. Still, he may have the hutzspah (sp?) and an insider view of the importance of an arena to a city to get things moving.

Personally, I think a Cal Expo arena site does nothing for the city or the county and is only there because it is a cheap solution. Not the best solution or even the preferred solution. Just the cheapest. Ugh.

Having walked the catacombs of Arco (yes, just like underground in ancient Rome) and having recently visted the depths of the HP Pavilion in San Jose, I have one conclusion. Arco is outdated, wornout, and inadequate.

The naysayers are those who've never really experienced the difference.

I'm just waiting for the West Sacramento location to appear on our radar. Remember Raley Field and Ikea?

...but I guess beggars cant be choosers, right?? If this proposal, even though its obviously the less desired of all of them, but if it ultimately keeps our team here...then thats all that matters, right?

I'm looking forward to hearing the progress on the new arena...it's been pretty quiet but I'm sure news will pick up in the offseason.

As far as Cal Expo goes, I'd be much happier to support it if the city would develop a transportation plan along with the new arena. It would be a dream to be able to take the Light Rail, avoid traffic, avoid parking fees, and have a few more drinks at/before the game.

But knowing how Sacramento moves...

One thing about new arenas...they lose their intimacy. My friends from Chicago always say how the United Center crowd has never been the same as the energy exerted in the old Chicago Stadium. Newer arena designs prioritize box seats, concessions, glitz and glamour etc...great stuff...but with that these structures lose the "right on top of you" feeling that visiting players get at Arco.

I hope with the new design, the developers can incorporate all of the Maloof's demands while keeping the intimacy of Arco Arena (but please, no plasma screens on seatbacks advertising rooms at the Palms). That way, when we're good again and everybody's hopped back on the bandwagon, the Kings will righteously re-claim the "most intimidating arena" moniker...and visiting players can take a warm shower.

Well, I am in new jersey this week, and got a chance to go to a soul arena football game. Man, wachovia center is freaking nice! Mad me very upset. We had super boxseats, very nice. But....I am going to see madison square garden. I have never been to philly, nj or nyk. Pretty stoked. I am only able to check kings scores on my sidekick. Go kings....lets go new arco!

I wish it could have happend in the railroads that would have looked cool passing by on the freeway. Not to mention helped develop downtown. But Cal Expo would be cool to but nobody would ever get to games on time because everyone feels the need to slowdown on the bottleneck there. West sac would be the worst idea because its not even sac-town.

Once the mayor race is over, the new arena issue should follow. Usually council members support a mayoral decision, especially a public one. If KJ supports a new arena, it gets done.

Not sure that the mayor has much to do with it at this point. It looks to be a CalExpo (state) - private investment deal. The city is pretty much out if the picture at this point which is not a bad thing.

At this point in the Arena debate it's been made clear by most everyone we'd take a new facility for the Kings anywhere, including West Sac-town. Who cares a rats arse what site they finally break ground on in about a 3 year process even at this 11th hour to have its doors swing open.

I live in Rancho Cordova, does that mean I'm not in Sac-town? The Pistons don't have their arena in Detroit, it's in Auburn Hills some 40 miles from downtown. There are other similar NBA examples extending to far flung suburbs or towns. Heck, the NFL New York Giants play their home games in another state - fricking New Jersey.

I guess I'm just a totally frustrated Kings fan and there's a lot to be frustrated about in our never ending arena fiasco. Of course, it will all end sooner rather than later with a deal to build a new home for the Kings or they will simply have another home far-far from Sacramento.
