Start DeMarcus NOW!!!

They were all help fouls because somebody else got beat. Not an excuse of course, but it does show the weakness of our perimiter defense. A few things I noticed in last nights game that were also pointed out in another fourm. Cousins missed a defensive switch which led to a basket and Beno threw a tizzy fit on the sidelines. Careful Beno, he's bigger than you are.
Thank you for finally noticing that too.

It has happened on this team too many times already this season and the previous seasons, (or everytime the aging Bibby and Beno were playing). I feel sorry for our BIGs. Last season, it was Hawes and Thompson and this season it is Cousins. They get the blame for the inadequacies of Beno. And what is worse, Beno tries to cover up his deficiencies by talking to the BIGs, showing people he is a veteran teaching the BIGS how to defend, as if it was the BIGs fault that somebody got opened.

I feel with DMC having problems with his Defence and fouls I have no prob bringing him off the bench as along as he plays plenty of minutes.

But saying he should start because of our losing streak? Starting Sammy has not been the problem, our defence has been better
our early deficits has not been as extreme.

If you want to dicuss losses lets talk about turnovers, Free throws, low offence production from Omri,Cisco,Reke, Beno
We were scoring over 100 in the wins, under 100 for the losses, shooting Brick after Brick, then turnover, then missed free throws has been why we are losing not Cuz Vs Sammy starting

But if you are gonna play players out of position maybe Play Sammy at 5 and Cuz at 4 to start with JT at 5 (when Sammy is out for Rebounds) and DJax at 4
Omri to start and landry at backup 3

I think carl can still provide offence off the bench, will get more touches, wont have problems with opposing bigs stopping him
The Bigs above can control the boards and the paint

I just think palying JT at the 3 is insane when Carl is struggling for rebounds, shooting over bigs, and not defending

Here's the bottom line. The Kings finally have a size advantage on most teams. Tonight's matchup is a prime example with Ben Wallace starting at center for Detroit. Overall we had an advantage against the Suns. But have we been using our advantage? I think I can safely say no. In the one post match up between Cousins and Channing Frye it was obvious that Frye had little chance of guarding Cousins.

Now I've watched basketball for a long time and there's one constant. If a team finds a weakness, they exploit it. Does Beasley ring any bells? Minny kept going to Beasley over and over again. And they wern't going to stop, until we stopped him. Which we never did. So the other night when Cousins made Frye look almost defenseless on that one possession, how many times did we go back to it to exploit it? Zero!!!!!

Aside from the points in the paint scored by Tyreke, most of our scoring is coming from the perimiter. I can't recall any NBA championship team that won solely on perimiter scoring. Reason being is too many times, one too many nights, the ball doesn't fall for you. There's a reason that most good post players almost always shoot better than 50% from the floor and that even your best perimiter players only shoot somewhere between 44 and 46%. Example, Kobe for his career is a 45.4% shooter while Duncan is a 50.8% shooter.

So while were sort of on the subject of Duncan, how many of you can remember when he came into the league? For those interested that don't remember or know, he wasn't considered the most athletic guy coming out of college, but he was considered one of the most fundamentally sound players coming out of college. He was a center at Wake Forest, and basicly a post player, or back to the basket player if you will.

San Antonio, by hook or by crook landed the big guy. Their only problem was exactly how to play him. They already had an all star center in David Robinson, who also was one of the better defensive centers in the NBA. Well they just plugged him into the lineup next to Robinson and let the chips fall where they may. I think that worked out fairly well. Now I'm not saying that Dalembert is Robinson or that Cousins is Duncan. But there are similarities, even if they be small one's. Duncan was quite able to guard the PF's of the league with Robinson having his back. On offense they were almost unstopable.

All I'm saying is I wouldn't have a closed mind. The Kings have strengths they didn't have last year. The problem, is that they're not using them. Even if you don't want to start them together, make Cousins the first man off the bench replacing Landry. Give them 5 or 6 minutes together and see how it works. If it does, expand on it and let Thompson be your main emergency back up at both positions if one of them gets into foul trouble. The main thing is to keep a big lineup on the floor at all times.

I still get befuddled when I think of Nellie going small, and just about every bad team in the NBA going small to match up with them, instead of going big and hammering them in the post. Bottom line is that almost every championship team I can think of had a post presence and the offense was balanced between the post and the perimiter. Right now the Kings are almost exclusively a perimiter team. 18 3pt shots attempted in the last game tells it all. How many baskets were scored in the post by someone other than Tyreke? Not many! It has to change, and it has to change soon.

Well said. My only quibble is that if you put Cousins at pf he's going to throw up even more outside shots and fall madly in love with that jumper. Once he falls in love, he might never fall out love...

I actually think it can work. It would depend on Cousins and Dalembert developing some chemistry, but now that I've seen Dalembert make passes that I didn't think he was capable of, I think the two of them might work in the post together. In another post I compared them to Robinson and Duncan. Yeah I know, so please don't bring it up. In a way it might help Cousins with his foul trouble. Right now when he's in the game there are two things he's dealing with on defense. The rotations, which at times he gets lost on. Not unusual, considering he only played one year of college and most bigs have trouble with defensive rotations at first. But secondly, most of his fouls come from trying to be the last line of defense under the basket. With Dalembert he wouldn't have to worry as much about the second part..

As far as his falling in love with shooting from the perimiter, I don't think thats a problem. He's taken a whole whooping 6, 3pt shots so far in the season and two of those came in the last 2 minutes of a game that was lost and another came with the clock running down. So its not as though he has some desease. I have no problem with his 15 foot shot as long as its an open shot. All I want him to do is take what the defense gives him. If he gets the ball in the post and he gets doubled, then I want him to pass to an open man. If they don't double, then go to work. I don't think there are to many centers in the league that can play Cousins man to man. And as he improves, there will be less. All were seeing right now are just glimpses of what he's capable of. He's going to get stronger, quicker, and smarter. I'd still like to see Cousins and Tyreke run the pick and roll once in a while.

I dont know, Ive said from the beggining I'd like to see Cousins and Dally start together. Im not going to get caught up in positions either. On defense, Dally is going to cover the more athletic big man. On offense, Dalembert will be the the main pick option, and in some sets ( do we have sets .. ahh, nevermind ) Cousins can play outside a bit with his jumper. My issue with Landry as a starter on offense ( his defensive and rebounding problems are obvious ) is that Landry never passes out of the post. And we never give the ball to dalembert in the post. This means when you pass it to a kings starting big, you better get back on defense cause thats where the ball will stay. Cousins makes the offense better because he is a playmaker as a big man. When you also have Evans and Casspi who dont pass as much as they probly could .. put Cousins in there and the offense will move better. And thats just on offense. I hope no one tries to argue that Landry is better on the boards and on defense .. maybe last year, but his size has been exposed this year.

I like Cousins and Dally over JT and Dally because having Cousins and Landry coming in off the bench doesnt make a whole lot of sense. We have two post players .. one should be in the game at all times.

So yea, if I were the coach :D I would at least try Cousins and Dalembert starting. JT and Landry is plenty of size off of the bench when you consider the scrub big men other teams throw out there. Our bench as it stands has no player as aggressive as Landry on offense ... I just really think thats were he can be most effective.

I'm not sure Cousins should be starting since he gets in so much foul trouble. But only him and Tyreke draw double teams, thus at last one of them should be on the court all the time. or else the offense sputters.

IMO, you have to force feed Cousins down low and start building some good habits. Cousins as a face-up high post player has a much lower upside than Cousins as a back to the basket low post player. I do think that Cousins wants to be a face-up player and shoot jumpers, and you have to shut that behavior down quick because that is not nearly maximizing his strengths.

Eh.. I'd love to keep a big body in the game at all times. Althrough we could run a lot better with Landry and JT in there. Although by the looks of it now we'd be seeing a lineup of Jackson and Landry.. damn.. im imagining all those rebounds now...

We wont run until Reke decides to not walk the ball up the court.

I dont mind Cuz off the bench. For all his skill, he is still pretty raw. Lotta sloppy play from the big fella. And then there is the foul trouble as well. When he is ready to start, I'm all for it. I just dont think he's ready yet. What is important is that he gets minutes. Nothing stupid like that Minny game, where Westphal sat him in the second half, despite how well he was playing in the first.

As far as Cuz as a PF...I think he's too lumbering at the moment. He'll get even more shredded on D. Then again, so does Landry...

demarcus needs to check himself before he wrecks himself, whining like a baby all the time needs to change before he deserves to start

You know, you have to give credit when its deserved. Cousins has been solid gold on the court until tonight. This is the first time all year he actually made a display of any kind. And to to be honest, he got jobbed on that foul. Tyreke has had a technical foul. Omri has had a technical foul. Even Westphal has one. Can we not overreact please! Until tonight Cousins has simply walked away after every call and said nothing. Your comment makes it sound like all he does is complain. Compared to some of the players in the league he's been a angel so far.

Cousins looked pretty good when he got the ball on the low block or low post. Not so good up high. When we had Head, Wright, JT, Garcia, the offense was going through Cousins and we were actually doing OK. The tone changed when Evans and I think Landry came back in and we started jacking up jumpers and Cousins was mostly out of it.

It's one thing making a face after you foul or throwing a towel down when you hit the bench; it's another thing when you let that affect your game.

i don't think Cousins has got to that point where he thinks "fcuk this then!" and plays like a chump.

i think he did in the summer league mind you.
