Sports 1140 reports...

I've been pretty anti-Noah, but after the combine numbers came out I've been a little bit higher on him. I'm wondering if he could somehow play center? He definitely has the height for it and I think if he could put on a little more weight and develop a little bit more strength he could be a perfect fit at center. He likes to bang and do the dirty work down low as opposed to stay on the wing and shoot anyway. Also his poor shooting wouldn't nearly as much of a detriment at center then it would at PF. In fact at center I think it would pretty much be a non-factor.

Was thinking the same thing myself when I saw the photo of him next to Oden on nba.com. They are the same height (although Oden has a bit of bulk on him), but I think Noah could play some center. The thing is we need a PF more than a C. So if we drafted Noah at least for the first couple years he would have to play PF.

It sucks that I'll have to sleep before tomorrow's exam and thus won't be around during the draft.

However, I'm down with getting Noah. I love players who hustle and as vfettke said, to have two of them paired in the frontcourt would be a step away from from our usual overpaid-snail-style big men squad of the last three years.

Noah = Pollard...?

Quite possibly.

And the key to no longer being small would be preceiely to put him at PF. When you've got a big who can play either spot, play him at the smaller position. Then for once YOU have the size advantage.

Still don't like him unless all the bigs wiht high end potential are gone. Ironically would very much like him if we for instance managed to trade for Charlotte's #8 or some such to go along wiht our #10. Get me the guys with star potential (perhaps Yi) and THEN add in Noah, and I'm pretty happy with that pcik as he's a good wingman. Pick him by himself when he's got nobody to be wingman too, and its not nearly so interesting. Heck, let's get #8, #10 and #20 and add in Splitter as well. Yi, Noah, Splitter...be a pretty good haul. Ooh...except I like Young and Smith as sleepers too, so we mgiht need maybe #15 and #16 as well. Ooh, and I liek Belinelli even thoough he is an OG, so probably need #22 or so. Ooh, and if Julian Wright slips might as well take a flyer on him too, so will need #11. Ooh, and maybe we can snag Koppenen if we get the #25....

Anybody taking all this down? Need someboy to do the realgm/hoopshype work for me here -- I'm at work. Just figure out how to get us the #8,#10, #11, #15, #16, #20, #22 and #25 picks out of this draft, and post the solution for me will ya? ;)

Not a problem.

Create a clone of David Stern and stash the original somewhere else for possible future cloning. Use mind control to ensure the clone does whatever you wish him to do and then, when he approaches the podium and speaks, you'll hear the following:

And with the #8 pick in the 2007 NBA draft, the Sacramento Kings pick...

And with the #10 pick in the 2007 NBA draft, the Sacramento Kings pick...

And with the #11 pick in the 2007 NBA draft, the Sacramento Kings pick...

...

...

...

Who there is going to argue with David Stern?

:p

KEY TO THIS APPROACH: Do not take your eyes off the clone. You'll have to be at the draft in person to really make this work.

Noah = Pollard...?
I think that's pretty close, Pollard was always good for morale, too, as he was the guy you could count on to never lose his sense of humor.

If you draw a line through Pollard and Varejao, I'm sure that Noah is somewhere on that line. He's not high on my wish list, but we could do worse.

Someone wake me up when draft time gets here...

I just don't want to hear after this draft the pathetic pr answer, "We're going to have to wait and see," after people ask the question: Why didn't Petrie trade Bibby or Artest to get extra picks? I'm with Petrie drafting whomever he pleases - as long as he gets more picks.

:DYeah, that would be great...just make sure you program the clone to work right...you dont want the clone to go up there and say something like 'With the 1st Pick in the NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings select...Pervis Ellison'...........oh, wait...that wasnt a clone....grrrr.....

Yeah, because it's just up to Petrie. Nobody else has to be involved.

He can't just go into the NBA store and buy some picks, you know. It's real easy for us to sit here and play arm-chair quarterback but these are multi-million dollar deals they're trying to work out and it's not as easy as virtual GM might lead you to believe.

How about this?

At least one or two very promising players, who fit our needs, go undrafted for no apparent reason. We sign them for $400K a year.

I don't think that's too unrealistic, on the contrary, I think it's one of GP's favorite (and more successful) tactics, and fits our mess of a payroll budget to a T. Yi Jianlian, Sun Yue and Bobby Brown? I could live with that.

So, tonight, as well as wishing for us to get a really good pick, I will be wishing that everyone else picks badly.

Assuming that Yi is gone, and Noah is on the board, he has to be the pick. We are so stacked at the 1-3 we need a 4 or 5 desperately. Plus Noah is a winner, and fits the uptempo style Theus wants to run.

Yeesh. I'm with you Brick. At this point, I would be willing to go with a gamble. Noah may give a solid 16/8, but nothing that would set the world afire. To me he seems like someone who would make a great addition to a veteran-laden team, a spark off the bench, not someone to build around.
The team is going to be built around Kevin Martin and an uptempo offense. We have vets already at the 4 and 5, and no young players other than Justin Williams. The pick makes sense in every possible aspect.

noah would be cool if yi isnt available... but i just dont see how this team would mesh.... just like last year. if noah were drafted by phx or gsw then okay... but the kings?

i could even understand atl taking him and trading picks with sac to have conley and noah. but the kings? i just dont see the point.

i wish this draft would hurry the hell up.

We are not stacked at the 1. At the 2-3 we are. Anywhere else needs help.

Why not the Kings? They need to rebuild, and are going to run an uptempo offense which fits Noah perfectly.

ya I suppose that is true, however other than Conley there isnt a PG that I like. Acie Law reminds me too much of just another Douby, I mean I do like Law I just don't think he is what we need at all.

thats why i mentioned phx and gsw... they already have the personnel for that style... we dont, outside of our 2-3 rotation.... martin/garica/salmons... maybe douby/price too...

he'd be great in atlanta and maybe toronto too...

we lack the point guard and center to make that work.... the bibby of old could do it... but not now...

Not sure if you can think of this pick in the context of the current team. By the end of next year, I'd wager that the makeup of our team looks nothing like last year. Don't worry if a player doesn't fit into the current kings' style. Worry if he doesn't fit into the team's plan for the future style. If management envisions a slow it down, half court team as the best long term choice, maybe Hawes is the man. If they want to emulate Phx, then Noah might be the guy. Can't worry about the present with this current pick.
