Spencer Hawes?

Doubt it. He's definitely behind Horford, Yi, Williams and Scola as far as rookie big man go. Too bad, really, because I thought with the 10th pick we'd at least have a lock for the rookie challenge this year. Another shut out for the Kings All Star Weekend?

No real shot -- too many rookies actually getting time/making an impact. I think they only take 10, so basically two at each position, and barring injuries the frontcourt guys will be Horford, Yi, Scola, and probably Sean Williams.

I wish we had Sean Williams...Maybe Petrie will weasle his way into an epic multi-team Kidd deal and somehow manage to pick up the promising young shotblocker.

Anyways....Hawes in the challenge? Probably not. I think his obligatory 1-3 minutes PT a game is a challenge enough for him at this point.

I say no because he's not even on the radar for the top 20 rookies this season. I'm not sure if there are other rookie centers out there in that grouping, but I don't think he's played enough minutes to get in

Look at the most recent rookie rankings from nba.com. Yeah it has its problems, but I'd say it's a pretty good indicator. Hawes used to be somewhere on there, but he's not there anymore. Also, it states who should play in the rookie challenge, the center being previously mentioned Sean Williams.

Here are the nba.com stats for all the rookies. Spenser is #34 amongst rookies in scoring. Its not only the Horford/Yi/Scola guys who have had better rookie years, but even guys who haven't done much like Jason Smith, Noah, Big Baby, Aaron Gray etc.

Just don't see how Spenser has any shot aside froma pity type thing just so we could have somebody in the All Star festivities.

I think Spencer Hawes has the potential and the IQ to go a long way in this game. If he's brought along properly and really learns the fundamentals of NBA basketball, I think he has a very bright future in front of him.

For that reason, I'm actually glad he's not being thrown into a situation on the court that's clearly beyond his current abilities.

He already has the fundamentals... all that's missing is the experience and the NBA body.

Well, he's hasn't been selected (duh). The rookie team will be Durant, Conley, Navarro, Scola, Horford, Green, Jianlian, S.Williams and Moon. Hopefully, this will light some kind of fire under Hawes' *** like it did to Aldridge (he says not making the rookie team last year motivated him)

Spenser simply hasn't been given the opportunity this year, and I don't thik will get one until we give up the fool's quest for the playoffs. I have doubts he's ever going to be anything more than a one dimensional offensive player, but I don't think we can chalk up his lack of PT to him being lazy or not having fire so much as either a) youth; b) talent; c) our magnificent "playoff push" (this is why a franchise that is clear sighted enough to call rebuilding rebuilding has an edge in player development)
