$5-$8 million most likely. How much will Curry get? He's a combo guard who doesn't have the handling abilities to be a PG yet. He only got real burn at the end of the season in garbage games. How much stock can we put into that?
I tell you what, and I'll go to the bank with this: he'll be offered more than the $1M that's left on his option. How much will Curry get? Woah..I know the cap is going up, but that's a lot for someone as unproven as him. I mean look at what Lin go in his 2nd contract with the hornets. We should see what the market gives him... Joseph got around 7mpy. He was 23, and had 4 years under Pop. Curry is 25 and has had 10-15 good games this season. I don't know...$5-$8 million most likely.

It's a lot easier to "shut a guy down" and "focus" on him, when nobody else is playing. One presumes that, when we're playing our full complement, there aren't going to be too many coaches going with the "focus on Seth Curry" defensive strategy. FWIW, Curry's numbers look very solid in games where Cousins and Gay and/or Rondo also played. He was absolutely shut down the instant competent teams focused on him (OKC 2nd half, Houston).

Let someone else overpay for his limited NBA talents - if we sign him for anything over $3, it will likely bite the Kings in the butt before his contract is up.
I don't know exactly when you "overpay" as it is an amorphous term. I am sure that word will enter the conversation when discussing what Curry is worth. If we have to make a choice between Curry and Acy, I want Curry. Curry fits our/my team's goal. He is a long distance shooter and Boogie needs several. I would not let Curry go as we can match any offer unless an absurd offer comes in. I doubt the latter because of his last game.Curry is exactly the kind of player you surround Cousins with. He can shoot the rock, he has a great feel for the game, he can handle and pass, doesn't turn the ball over much, and he defends. Is he perfect? No, god didn't bless him with all the same attributes his brother ended up with, but he got enough of them to be a good to solid rotational player on a competitive team. But the question seems to be, what is he worth. The simple answer is whatever the market will bear, and unfortunately we don't know what that figure is yet. And the best way to find out, is to let him test the market.
The argument against Curry seems to be that the sample size is too small, because you can't argue with his results. He ended up the best shooter on the team last season, and he was consistent whether he played 10 or 12 minutes, or he played 30 minutes. He only had one bad game, his last, and he was being defended by a player that I think is the best PG defender in the league, not to mention that Houston had seen what he had done in the previous game, and they were determined he wasn't going to do that against them. I don't discount that game, but I do understand the circumstances.
If you look at Curry's competition on his own team, it would appear he was dramatically underpaid.
Belinelli: 30.6% 3pp - $6,060,606.00
McLemore: 34.6% 3pp - $3,156,600.00
Anderson: 26.7% 3pp - $1,015,421.00
Rondo: 36.5% 3pp - $9,500,000.00
Collison: 40.1% 3pp - $5,013,559.00
Curry: 45.0% 3pp - $947,276.00
Curry was caught in a catch 22 all year. He wasn't played because he hadn't proved himself, but then he couldn't prove himself, because he couldn't play. And now, some want to penalize him again for something he had no control over, because when he did have control, he proved to be a damm good player. How's this, I think he should make more money than whomever we draft in the coming draft, because I can guarantee you that next year, Curry will be a better player than that draft pick. Long term, I can't speak to. I'm not saying throw the bank at him, or over pay him. Hell, right now, with the new cap, we don't really know what over paying looks like. 5 mil sounds like a lot, but after the smoke clears next oct, it may look like chump change. I hope we find a way to retain him. A way that makes sense for the Kings, and for Curry.

I don't want to see Acy go either but I wouldn't offer anything near what others would call overpaying. He has value and for some reason, perhaps Karl, he showed it last year.
Maybe this is for another thread but I find myself wondering if Gay's lackluster play and Belinelli's absolute loss of a shot was influenced in some way by Karl. Remember what Karl did to Butler.
Hard to say about Belinelli. In the past he was a very good shooter when he spotted up in a catch and shoot situation. We had him moving and coming off screens and shooting. That's a lot harder shot to make, and even though he was used that way in the world championships, and was fairly successful, it didn't work for us. So who knows, maybe with a different coach and a different system, he might revert back to the old Belinelli. Fact is, that unless we trade him, were stuck with him next season.
I share your feelings about Acy. I'd love to have him back, but at the right price. At this point, we have a bigger need for a good outside shooter (Curry), than we do an athletic, but undersized PF. The way I look at it, is that Curry falls more under the necessity umbrella, and Acy falls under the luxury umbrella.
I doubt if we could get much in trade for Belinelli. There is a huge question mark over last year's performance by him. Maybe keep him and see what happens with another coach. If he returned to his old style, he'd fit into this team very well. I don't guarantee anything as it appears someone stole the old Belinelli and no one knows where he is. Hopefully Marco knows and will share the info with Vlade.![]()
One of the biggest signs that point to a HUGE problem with this roster is the fact that James freaking Anderson actually played over 14 minutes a game!
for 15 good games? noooo
I think a 3 year/$10 mil sort of deal is very likely from us. Teams just aren't going to break the bank
