Source of the Assists

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
this will come as no great surprise to any fan of the Kings, but we of course lead the league in assists -- 25.5 ast/gm (1st in NBA), and another 27 last night.

Some interesting per 48 numbers to explain it:

Overall, doesn't look spectacular. Led by:
Mike Bibby 7.7 ast/48 (32nd in NBA)
Doug Christie 7.4 ast/48 (35th in NBA)
Chris Webber 7.2 ast/48 (36th in NBA)

Furthermore, Bibby's 7.7 ast/48min only ranks 25th(tied) in NBA amongst PGs.

But our other position ranks:

1) PF -- Chris Webber's 7.2 ast/48min ranks 2nd in NBA among PFs (to Garnett's 7.5, distant #3 is Kenyon Martin with 4.6).
2) C -- Brad Miller's 4.9 ast/48min ranks 1st in NBA among Cs. Shaq is second at 4.3. As an aside Greg Ostertag currently ranks 7th in NBA among Cs with 2.3 ast/48min.
3) OG -- Doug Christie's 7.4 ast/48min ranks 2nd in NBA among OGs (to Kobe's 8.2). Unless you count Dwayne Wade (9.0) as an OG, in which case he is third.

No suprise here, but thanks for the breakdown. I remember when Bibby was first traded here everyone thought he would average 10+ assists and lead the league in assists/game. Of course, our offense dictates otherwise. With DC handling the ball as much as Bibby and the offense being run through the big men, we have a system that spreads out the assists well. Of course, credit must be given to GP and company for getting the players with the passing skill and Adelman for developing it in them (Ostertag a passer? Who woulda thought?). Then again, maybe it's tweaking the system to fit the players we have. And of course, one of the concerns last summer was whether this system can work in the playoffs--but thats for another thread. Nonetheless, it's a beautiful thing to watch, the Kings offense. And I'm sure no one really is suprised to see it working so well without Vlade and with Webb ;)

Well now that we have identified the teams greateststrenth, how can we use assists to make up for being out rebonded? Ok maybe that was a little harsh but seriously I firmly belive a team's success is based on exploiting strneths to ofset or minimze wekenses

I also believe we lead the league in FT percentage and least turnovers both of which we've done our best to drop a notch or two in the last 2 weeks. If you have trouble rebounding and playing tough defense you better not fall lower in the offensive ranks. Some of our unforced errors recently are explainable to normal miscommunications or unfamilarity but some have also been atrocious! Get it together, guys!!

Thanks for the compilation, Brick...

You know what that shows? It shows a TEAM - dedicated to playing the game AS a team. They're working to form a cohesive unit that, as a TEAM, plays some of the most exciting basketball around. Maybe it's not all the flash, but there's an attention to unselfish play that really sets them apart.

I LOVE THIS TEAM!!!

I assume we have most assists on 3pt shots too. We have great shooters and when we move the ball - we get lot assists.

how about using our assists to get FB points or use assists to draw fouls and get us to the line where we are good at to get a league. minimize rebounding trouble b/c we may have a lead cushion.
