Source: Batum Unhappy With Blazers, Wants To Play For Timberwolves
Jul 03, 2012 10:28 PM EDT

Nicolas Batum has told the Blazers that he does not want to return to the team, according to a source close to the situation.

"Batum never wants to play in Portland again," the source said. "And has determined that Minnesota is the best for him and his family."

The Timberwolves are believed to have offered Batum a four-year deal that could approach $50 million.

Why the Blazers hate? Have I missed something? BTW, much as I like Batum's game, that is way overpaying. Kahn may look like he's assembling a good team, but he's going to find financial trouble in a few years handing out contracts like this. And they still don't have a legit star player.

It is going to be at least 3 to 4 years before Portland is back in the playoffs if everything goes well. They are clearly rebuilding. Minnesota is on the way up. Love is a star. Rubio should be in a couple of years. If they sign Batum, they will be the playoffs next year. Why would Batum suffer through a rebuild when he has the chance to play on a competitive team for a similar amount of money?

They need to trade for Gasol. Derek Williams, S&T Beasley and JJ Barea for Gasol.

Your IP address being located in L.A. wouldn't have anything to do with this conviction would it? ;)

Nah. :) That is what I heard earlier yesterday on ESPN 710 Los Angeles. I have friends up and down the West Coast who give me things they hear on their local sports radio stations. I enjoy the arena debate and free agent opening. I am pretty resourceful at times.

Now B-Roy has signed with the T-Wolves. I haven't checked the pulse around town yet but I'm sure Blazer fans are about to go ballistic.

Just one more example of how having a good coach matters. Minnesota was a laughing stock a year ago and now they're inching towards being a contender. Sounds like Portland is going to match on Batum though. Maybe a sign and trade involving Derrick Williams would be beneficial to both sides?

btw, K Love is from Oregon too isn't he? There's a lot of the Pacific Northwest now in the original Northwest.

Yeah although we've disowned him after he ditched Oregon for UCLA.
