Songaila has already signed an offer sheet

I got this from prosportsdaily.com under bulls or kings rumors. So has he signed an offer sheet already or this is just a plain old rumor?

The addition of restricted free agent Darius Songaila was expected to be announced this week.

Sacramento has seven days to match the offer for the veteran forward. If the Kings do so, it most likely will be to execute a sign-and-trade move.

"That will play out sometime (this week)," Paxson said. "I won't go so far as to say it's a done deal, but I'm hopeful. The interest is mutual." Songaila, 27, averaged 7.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game last season.

I think that the article is stating that he will sign an offer sheet, most likely this week rather than already having signed one. I truly think that they are trying to work out a S&T.

If they do a S&T I wonder who for? Went to Bulls site and lo and behold who shows up as a Bulls FA but Lawrence Funderburke! Bulls have minimum of 6 forwards now plus Chandler and Curry and 4 of them are 6-9 or 6-10.

A number of folk like Nocioni but he is a copy of Kevin and Cisco. Malik Allen is a big body at 6-10 and 255 and is 27. Ah Ha!! the famous Jared Reiner, 6-11 255 backup center entering his 2nd year.

On the Con side of a S&T, the Maloofs don't want any more salary and a S&T would add several $M per year. Even without Darius we have 13 contracts now and Petrie is on record saying he does not want more that 13 on active roster. But where does that leave the NBADL players? How would they be accounted? Hmm.

I'd rather they do a sign and trade instead of losing sung w/o getting anybody in return. I hope we can get a big man or a defensive specialist in return. Antonio Davis perhaps or Griffin.

ugh please no don't say antonio davis or griffin. we're trying to get younger not older. didn't you see the trend of dumping mostof the players that were over 30 for the kings? i highly doubt petrie will take back old players unless its an expiring contract.

But Petrie has put up a bunch of guys who can win it all this season and if he is serious in wanting to win it all this season, getting a veteran for just a year who can help us in defense will be a big help for us specially if it is to bolster our defense

Id do it for a pick, so we can use that as part of another deal mid season if things dont go as planned.

I don't know about that... Plays the same general positions, but he is more SF than OG, and would snap either one of our guys in half like a twig. Powerful player, big rebounder, very aggressive, but shot was undependable last year. Much different style of player from Cisco or Kevin. Closer to a Matt Harpring type than anything else.

Yes, you've been on an anti-Nocioni trip all summer, but given his performances either in or out of the NBA I think you'd have a hard time justifying that. Superstar? No. But has guts and can flat out play.

I would not put mcuh creedance in the rumor that Darius has singed an offer. Once pen and paper meet that is prety much public record and normaly get reported right away, then the Kings would ahve to meet the offer or let him go, prety straight forward stuff. The fact that no official offer sheet ahs been made public yet tends to indicate that that there are sticking points and or negotiations going on. IF they really want him and IF Darius's agent is pusshing for a contract that would require clearing cap space, then the option of a trade is there. Of course there is NOTHING really known for sure and this is just specualtion. It could be that re-singing Curry is a first priority and Darius's contract is simple buisness after the Curry deal, who knows.

It would most likely be a three team deal wherby the Bulls would ship either Griffin or Piatkowski to team X and then team X would ship a pick(s) or trade exception to the Kings.

I would love to see Davis on the team if that meant that we could trade KT and Corliss for him (or of course, work Songaila in there somewhere). This is the last year of his contract so that gives us a lot of cap space next season and a good back up.

I believe that Davis makes in the area of $15 mill this season, which would mean more than KT and Corliss...IMO, that's too much to give up.

$13.9mil actually, according to hoopshype. So you could do it for KT ($6.1) and Corliss ($6.0) if you just wanted to clear cap room I guess. But of course that same big expiring contract probably makes him more valuable than he would be on aging talent alone, and I have doubts whether Chicago, or just about any team, want our bad contracts instead of tons of cap space.

What is wrong with Griffin? I'd love to see him on our team. He's not too old (31), he's a very good defender, he's tough, and not like he can't score. He had a handful of good games in the playoffs this past season as well.

Davis I wouldn't really mind here, he's still a decent big man, and is tough, but his contract and age are the negatives I'd say. Though the age hasn't seemed to be too much of a factor, and just the contract would be.

Thank you very much, Nocioni rocks. :)

We don't really need him anymore. We got Shareef as starter and Kenny as backup and Jamal Sampson and third backup so we dont need him. We will miss you Darius......

I would still like to get something in return for him though. Preferably a trade exception and a couple of 2nd round draft picks.

BTW, welcome aboard :)

We can pay him anything up to the MLE. We have Bird Rights, which means we can offer him up to MLE ($5 million) per season and that does't affect our exceptions.

The Kings don't want to take on any more salary, to avoid luxury tax. Thats part of the reason why they haven't sing Songaila. We can sign and trade him to another team. The team that gets Songaila could trade a trade exception to us plus picks. That was we don't take on any salary in return but still get something for him.

Darius Songaila Close to Becoming a Bull

Chicago Sun-Times - Darius Songaila is about to join the Bulls after going through a long and arduous process.

''We're moving toward it,'' Mark Bartelstein, Songaila's Chicago-based agent, said Wednesday. ''Hopefully, by the end of this week or certainly by the beginning of next week, we'll have something done.''

Songaila, 27, a restricted free agent with the Sacramento Kings , came to town Aug. 24 to meet with Bulls general manager John Paxson and the team's coaching staff, and he was so sold on wanting to join the Bulls that he reportedly looked at homes for sale in the area the next day.

But Bartelstein said from the start that getting a deal done would be complicated, even though the salary-capped Kings have said they have no intention of exercising their right to match any offer sheet Songaila receives.

Bartelstein said many other teams have pursued the 6-9, 248-pound Songaila, who averaged 7.5 points and 3.7 rebounds last season for the Kings.

''You have everybody in the league trying to get him,'' Bartelstein said. ''But we're trying hard to make something work with the Bulls. Darius thinks this is a good fit.''

What complicates the Bulls signing Songaila to an offer sheet -- likely for the $2.2 million left in their mid-level salary-cap exception -- is that they could not send Sacramento a compensatory draft pick without also giving up a player with a matching salary in return. [READ]

this just killed all my expectation to see one more year him in kings uniform. i just can`t beleve GP went allong with the trio . it just broke my hart !!!!!!!!!!!!! I`m going for a WALK WITH JOHNNIE try to inprove my shot`s :(

from that article i got that we will be getting a draft pick and a matching salary unless we also send another player for someone a little bigger. Who knows its an interesting situation I am anxious to see what we get or if we just waive bye bye to Darius for nothing.

Only guy we'd need/want from them is Adrian Griffin. He's a combo SF/SG, is cheap, not that old, brings good things. I'd welcome him.

Pargo's showed some good stuff, but he's another guard, and so is Piatkowski.

Antoino Davis, I doubt it with his salary, and probably age (though that doesn't seem to be a factor in his play).

Well, Heinrich, Nocioni, Deng and Piatkowski all have matching salries. Hmm...wonder which one of those guys Chicago would offer up? ;) Darius for Deng! :)

If I've read the original article right, if something isn't done today by the Kings, Darius will belong to the Bulls...

I wish him well.
