Some Good News - Kings To Interview Thibodeau and Rambis

They had Kevin Garnett Rondo PP Allen..

Did anyone think Ray Allen and Paul Pierce were standout defenders before? They also had Perkins in their starting lineup who's not really a defensive force. A capable role-player, but not a stopper. Granted Garnett and Rondo are terrific defensive players but it takes a team to play defense. Not to mention those guys take nothing away from what he did in Houston and New York. He's been a key factor on some of the best defensive teams of the last decade. You have to read between the lines a little bit. All the Boston players sing his praises. Opposing players respect him. He's reportedly a hard worker and very vocal on the sidelines. There's a lot more than just one championship saying this guy could make a great head coach.

Well if you have 2 defensive studs in KG and Rondo and you surround them with solid to good defenders in Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and Perkins, you have the makings of a great defensive team.

A couple of elite defenders will do that to your team. Look at Houston with Artest and Battier. Detroit teams with Wallace and Wallace, SA teams with Duncan and Bowden. 2 elite defenders will make any team a defensive force in the league.

I'm not what you'd call a strong partisan with regard to the TT issue, but I see a problem here.

One of the criteria for our next coach was that he must have had a measure of success. I think most fans would expect that, too. But, as you imply, there is a strong correlation between great players and successful coaches. Very few have led teams of scrubs deep into the playoffs, and none of those guys are looking to the Kings for a job. So what are we supposed to do?

Why you hire Thibodeau - he has credibility in the league as an excellent defensive coach, which means that it's more likely young players will listen to him. He's gotten Pierce to buy into playing defense. Maybe the most impressive thing about the Celts is that their second team plays very good D, and those guys aren't exactly blessed with fantastic defensive abilities.

Why you hire Rambis - LA is grooming him to take over for Jackson when he retires. If LA thinks that highly of him, then that's good enough for me. If you hire him, it's a double-win - we get him, LA loses him.
