Some Apprehension about Next Year

Hi Everyone.

Well, this is a somber evening after a rough first round. I am proud of the way that the team fought but I'm also bothered by something - even though this team gave a great effort, we still lost 4-1. This is cause for concern because it shows that this team's problem isn't heart - it's talent. The 2004-2005 Kings just weren't as good as the Kings of previous years. Seattle owned the Kings this playoff, despite big games from key Kings players. The Kings just aren't that deep and they don't have the magic that Kings teams before them seemed to have.

Although I value the team above the player, and I am truly a Kings fan and not a fan of the players on the Kings, with so many changes to this team I have been a little disillusioned which is why I haven't posted nearly as much this year. This team just doesn't seem like the Kings! Maybe next year, when I can START the season with this bunch of guys, I'll adopt this group as a true team of Kings, but at the end of this year I just felt like I was rooting for a bunch of mercenaries.

That said, I'm really nervous about starting next season with this same group. We aren't good enough to win a title, and with this line up we might not be good enough to make the playoffs.

What moves can we expect in the offseason? Will the face of this team change even further?

Peja has proven that he can't hit the big shot in the big game - will he be gone?

Will Mobley be gone after one short season?

Will Petrie try to capitalize on Bibby's recent success by trading him, noticing that Bibby doesn't have the legs to run this offense without Webber or Divac?

I'm in a state of confusion as a fan right now. I'm not sure how many more changes I can take! Eventually I will come to terms with whatever team wears the Purple, Silver, and Black, but for now I'm just disappointed.

We are NOT going to start next season with this same team. You can take it to the bank...

There are going to be tons and tons and tons and tons and tons... etc. of threads about possible trades, possible free agents, etc. And, for the first time in a long time, virtually no one on the team can be considered safe.

Stick around, QF. I can guarantee you won't be bored.

:D

I don't buy this "Sonics were just the better team" business. Towards the end of the season both teams were about even and both teams were injured.

And the Kings have depth. I don't know how two former 6th man of the year winners is not having any depth.

But you're right that this team isn't a championship level team as is. There needs to be another big time player added, but it can't be at the cost of a lot of depth.

I hear ya QF, but most of my disappointment with this particular season came when we traded the heart and soul of our team for the past 7 years.

I'm sure Petrie will find a way to make us contenders again. I'm actually looking forward to whatever changes will be made. You know they're coming, and you know they'll be big. :)

There WILL be changes. That is about the only thing we can say for sure. Of course, I have my opinions about who should go and stay, it is too late to elaborate very much tonight. I do think that my OFFICIAL song for the off season is going to be "I'm So Excited and I just can't hide it. I'm about to lose control and I think I like it!" I will be sad to see any players trades, but man, isn't it going to be great seeing what Petrie is going to cook up next? There are 3 players that I will want to cry over if they do not play for us next season, but I have been a fan long enough to know it happens. We will come back with a stronger and better team next season!!

It's definitely going to be interesting to see what petrie has in store for us. The only thing that would surprise me at this point is if Bibby gets traded but as we have seen no-one is expendable.

My god. Give me a break. If this series was based on talent the Kings would have won 4-0. The Sonics are a team that knows eachother very well. The Kings had virtually no time to get that experience.

I'm worried a little too Queensfan, I think we have some contracts that will be hard to move, and even if we can make some trades that is no gaurantee people will just come in and mesh with this team. I think those days left with the 3 guys we lost this year. We just have to wait and see and hope for the best. I was not surprised by what happened this series, I think I made it pretty clear over the past month that I thought this would happen, but it was still hard to take. The way we went out with Seattle making fun of us and talking trash... and for the first time we didn't have the firepower to fight back. Jerome James wearing a frickin garbage bag in his post game interview...it was kind of unsettling. One thing I can take comfort in is that Brad, Mike and Peja came to play tonight... Brad was obviously limited by his leg.. but 11 assists?? Brad fought to the end his body just let him down. Peja also stayed aggressive the WHOLE game, he may have struggled in the 4th but he kept fighting too, and hit a huge 3 at the end there. Peja fought back against his critics tonight and it was good to see, if he does that more often, he will def get better at it. Mike Bibby, what can you say? He played his *** off and left it all out there tonight. He was vocal, and pissed off, and really the leader of the team tonight. This post has gotten way to long, but I guess I just wanted to give those three guys props for playing there hearts out to the end. IMO no one else should be safe this offseason, I like a lot of the guys and think they showed some promise, but these team needs big changes if the are going to contend again soon.

ooo boy, though Im very disappointed about our loss tonite, I just anxious to see what happens in the off season, I still sport my kings pride......again go kings, 2006 champs

And to think that all The Pointer Sisters were talking about in that song was sex.

What? Next thing you'll probably tell me is that "Puff, The Magic Dragon" really wasn't about a friendly dragon.;)

Not this again!:)

Thanks for all your comments.

I think that for the first time, Petrie's reputation is on the line this offseason. If we start next season with this lineup, he will truly have some explaining to do about this season's moves.

No you are ok. ;) I am just messing with you

I still think we are one or two big moves away from being a real contender next season. I think we have to keep Bibby, most teams would kill for a point guard who can shoot lights out, direct the offense efficiently and perform well under pressure. His individual defense needs to improve significantly if we want to make a run next year. Brad should stay simply cos there aren't any good Centers out there besides Shaq and Ming (Stoudamire doesn't count). He's a great passer, shooter, banger and a pretty good rebounder when healthy, however with Brad, he seems to always breakdown towards the end of the season.

Peja, although I've been very inclined to see him go lately, I think "IF" he can work on some moves (I know, I know, and we've been waiting for awhile now) this summer he should stay atleast until the trade deadline. I don't think he is a playoff choker, he has had some very good games in the playoffs which everybody seems to forget, and hopefully with a few new moves under his belt and a tougher attitude, he can get by when defenses zero in on him. I think he will flourish in his contract year. Ofcourse if we can find a better all around player, like Artest then I'm all for it. With Cat, I'm kinda on the fence. He shown that he is a great shooter with the ability to shoot some tough shots but his poor decision making tells me that we will not attempt to re-sign him this summer. I think, everybody else on this team is expendable. I really feel we are one "young and healthy" Chris Webber away from eliteness, but is such a player out there?
