Simmons gone

Iggy

Bench
Mobley and Johnson left. SG running out.

Looks like we're gonna do a sign and trade with Mobley.

Nevermind.... The Bucks are making all the right moves. Let's see how good they are next season

Forward won most improved honors with Clippers

Former Clippers swingman Bobby Simmons agreed to a five year, $47 million deal with the Bucks on Friday, his agent Mark Bartelstein said.

"Bobby intends to sign with the Bucks when the moratorium ends," Bartelstein told ESPN.com. "He was very appreciative of the opportunity that the Clippers gave him but felt like this was the best opportunity for him."

The move is the clearest signal yet that the Bucks are serious about competiting for a championship this year. In the past week, they signed the No. 1 pick in the draft, Andrew Bogut, agreed to a six-year, $90 million dollar deal with Michael Redd and began the on the court rehab for point guard T.J. Ford.

The Bucks have two more significant free agents, Dan Gadzuric and Zaza Pachulia, that they are also trying to re-sign.

Simmons will join Desmond Mason, Jiri Welsch and Redd to form a pretty potent combination at the shooting guard and small forward positions. Mo Williams and hopefully Ford will take care of the point. Their only area of weakness now is at the four where Joe Smith is the only big guy holding down the fort.

The loss of Simmons, coming on the heels of the rejection by free agent Ray Allen, is yet another blow to the Clippers. Simmons had a breakout year for them and was a key to their success this season. However, head coach Mike Dunleavy was uncomfortable paying Simmons, who has played well for just one season, that type of money. The Clippers could also lose free agent Marko Jaric this summer, putting into serious question their hopes of making the playoffs next season.

talk about inflation. almost 10 mill/yr who had only one good season. I think Jaric is the better player, because of versatitlity and passing skills, of the two Clips.

Jaric will get a similar deal then 8-9 mill/ yr range

I sincerely doubt it at this point. Not enough teams interested, and there are significant questions whether he can shoot or stay healthy.

I think this is great news. Leaves Mobley as the only excellent SG available - Geoff should be able to do something clever with a S&T... probably a blockbuster nobody has thought of yet.

Actually this is not good news. Clipps can, and probably will sign Mobley outright leaving us with nothing or forcing us into a sign and trade that we really don't want.

I like Aleksander's take on it better. ;) (that it will put pressure ont eh Nuggets to do the Nene sign and trade because there is a team out there willing to big Cat up over the MLE)

P.S. Anybody else think that the Clips are just interested for the same reason that we have occasinally been interested in FAs in the past? Because Cat had one of his biggest/most dramatic games of the year lighting them up in the 4th quarter and singlehandedly carrying us to victory? They go "ooooooohhhh, that guy's great!" and decide to sign him.

I think it's so-so news. I really doubt the Clipps are going to outbid anyone for Mobley. Assuming that Mobley is going to get between $6 - $8 million, that's not far off what the Bobby Simmons got from the Bucks, and the Clipps refused to match that. I'm guessing the Clippers are going to be interested in Mobley only at the right price. So if the Nuggets want him and are willing to pay him more the S&T will have to happen.

But I agree with Ryle, it does scare me that the Clipps could sign him outright. We've just got to hope that the Nuggets want him more.

Mobleys choice , see if he wants to goto a team that is over the cap we can work something out, but alot of teams have alot of free cap space and they arnt afraid to break the bank for a average SG, i mean ATL offering Joe Johnson the Max ? Things have gotten out of hand, i cannot believe the cash that is being paid to average players.. it would be nice to get in something in return for him though :D

That is why I like what is happening his value(contract aswell) has gone up. If he wants to play on a contending team then a sign and trade is his only option. With all things being equal I think he would want to be on the team that has a best chance at winning. This gives us somewhat say in where he goes not much but some. Maybe enough to get Nene from the Nuggets? I do not know but I like our chances.

Wow the Bucks are really getting their **** together

How so? This can turn into a REAL bad situation.. This guy is not worth what he signed for. One decent season.. DECENT.. He is a bench player on many teams out there.

Don't forget - the Clips can't outright sign Mobley for more money that he can get in a S&T. Do you think Mobley is the type to leave cash on the table so he can go to the Clips instead of the Nuggets.

Think! It is absolutely good news.

Yes that is correct he could get the extra year on the contract(which I doubt he will get 6 years) even more important 10% per year increase instead of 8%

On hoopshype.com, a report from the LA times said this in regards to what the Clippers may do next:

"They are expected to intensify their efforts to sign Cuttino Mobley, the most coveted of the unrestricted free-agent shooting guards still available after Larry Hughes reportedly agreed Friday to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers."

So it looks like we may lose Cuttino for nothing.

Cat will likely tell the Clips to get lost unless they can swing a S&T with Geoff. Cat has the "Nene S&T buzz" going for him - so he can drive a fairly hard bargain I think.

I really don't think the Kings will come home empty-handed on this one, but you never know...

Just had a thought, but with the Simmons signing the Bucks suddenly have three high-paid 2/3 players and not much frontcourt depth. Do you think it's possible they'll offer Desmond Mason to the Wizards for Kwame Brown? Seems like it would make sense for both teams.

If it happens that would be one less option for Cuttino.

No, think they like Desmond as a 6th man, and he's worth more than Kwame. And if they bring back their own FAs' the frontcourt rotation doesn't look bad (for the Bucks) Bogut, Gadzuric, Smith, Pachulia (who they like more than I do). Its not a point of desperation for them anymore -- all 4 of those guys are 6'10" and bigger, 3 of the 4 are young. If Bogut turns out to be for real, they actually may have a better frontcourt situation than we do.
