SIGN A SHOT BLOCKER thread

I can definitely understand the body of your post, even if I don't quite feel the same way. But the bigs you mention weren't necessarily within our reach. As for Chandler, we couldn't have matched New Orleans' offer - a big expiring contract and a serviceable player who could (theoretically) hold down the PF spot until Tyrus Thomas developed. If you were offered PJ Brown or Corliss/Pot who would you have taken? I would like to have had Steven Hunter, but I'd rather have SAR, and once we signed SAR we didn't have the cap room to sign Hunter. I'm not too sad we missed out on Elson -- I thought Jackie Butler was someone worth signing, but then again, his butt is firmly on the Spurs bench, and he's not much of a shotblocker anyway.

My nagging suspicion is Darko. Could we have gotten him for Bonzi's expiring contract since Orlando just gave up Cato? It would have probably meant no playoffs, but it could have been a savvy move. But at the time, of course, Bonzi was a part of our future. So it's tough to know.

Being that the Bulls are in desperate need of post scoring, one would have to believe that a SAR/Pot offer would be at least as good, if not better than, a PJ Brown. Sure, I'd rather have SAR than Hunter--but Chandler? Hardly.

Agree about Darko, and I think you may have to chalk that up as another casualty of our compete-but-not-contend strategy as of late. Focus on the present (a present in which we realistically have no title shot) at the expense of the future. Man, it would be nice to have Darko and Arroyo on this team now.

I actually don't know if they would have gone for SAR -- their first priority is signing their youngsters, and I don't if he would have fit into their long term plans from a financial standpoint. They have a lot of young guys with extensions kicking in (they even frontloaded Hinrich's deal so they'd have room for more extensions).

If that was on the table, though, then yeah, I definitely hope Petrie would have done it. It would have left the Kings ridiculously ugly on offense, but I like Chandler's game and presence.

Which one...the women's team????

Our team was eliminated by Greece in the semifinals, and played Argentina to decide who would get the bronze. Greece was, in turn, destroyed by Spain in the finals, even though Pau Gasol was out injured.

The US national team was:
LeBron James, Elton Brand, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Joe Johnson, Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Shane Battier, Kirk Hinrich, Antawn Jamison and Brad Miller.

darko would be nice, but he is reportedly asking for a $60 mil contract....
damn those dalemberts and chandlers that set those high standards

The Warriors Game

I've been wondering...if the coaches had been reversed in the Warriors game, Nelson for Sac, Muss for the Warriors...how would the outcome of the game have looked? I understand the back to back and injuries, etc., but I was struck by the fact that the Warriors were charged up and ran over us. Kinda reminded me of the Mavs under Nelson (whom I don't particularly care for, probably because his teams always seem to treat us poorly). This isn't Muss bashing, maybe I'm off base. Just curious. Is the shot blocker the whole issue, or would someone like Nelson been able to make it more interesting?

Trade for Nate Robinson!

Seriously (and I kid you not), nate robinson, the shortest player in the NBA, just blocked Yao Ming. And it was no deflection, it was a straight up stuffing.

I'm embrassed to say the least for my rockets. :(

Spudd Webb made 61 blocks while in a Kings uniform. I somehow doubt that he'd be a much better center than Corliss, though.

Darko is #7 in NBA in blocks per game and #4 in total blocks so far. Not bad considering he still plays limited minutes.

I think he still needs more playing time and he'll get more consistent.

First, welcome to Kingsfans.com

As far as your question goes, I don't think it was coaching that made the difference in the game. The Warriors were charged up because they've gotten off to a good start, they were playing at home and ... at least for now ... Baron Davis is healthy. That wouldn't have changed with Muss at the helm. And I don't think the whole issue is anywhere near as simple as a shot blocker.

We are not a team yet. We're a collection of parts that have yet to be assembled into a cohesive unit. Some people around here got too wrapped up in the whole "win streak" idea and forgot to look at the big picture.

They have the video on NBA.com, its funny as hell. Yao getting blocked by someone almost 2 feet shorter then him isnt helping his image as a softie much.

No, but putting up old school Patrick Ewing 26-10-2 numbers kinda is. ;)

If he could I'm sure Petrie would pull one out of you know where and sign it, but that just isn't happening, people think there is someone just some gem sitting on his couch waiting to be signed...

shoulda traded for samuel dalembert or jamaal maglorie imo....sure they dont score well, but they would be able to give us a solid frontcourt when garnett, duncan, nowitzki, stoudmire(when he gets heathier), ak-47, and others come to town.....

For that matter, if we could teach him to avoid defensive 3-second violations, we could probably shave a gorilla, put him into a Kings uniform, and have better defense around the basket. At least he'd be in the way.

Does anybody know whether it's explicitly required that you be human to be in the NBA?

;)

dalembert is $10 mil a year
who would we trade to equal $10 mil that the sixers would also take?
or would we trade all those guys back to them (kenny, corliss, salmons) ?

as for magloire, i was going insane thinking petrie had a hold on it during the off-season and i also thought that pryzbilla was gonna come as well
magloire actually does have offensive game in him
he did make the all-star team and it wasnt solely because of his defensive efforts

The 76's can have K9 and Corliss for Sam and keep the change! :D

Corliss's expiring $6.5M deal might lesson the sting of K9s long deal and moodiness. :p

For the time being we should play Vitaly, with his size he will be way better at Center and clogging the lane then a 6' 7" with shoes Corliss.

Corliss ($6.5), Pot ($3.6) and a pick works salary wise. Sixers get cap space and a potential cog in a youth movement. All depends on how badly they want out of that contract--which they just gave him, essentially.

I'd be all the that, we get a young big Center we need now and the 76ers get the the cap relief.

What are we going to spend the $ coming off the books anyways?
Oh yeah right another guard, sorry I forgot.

Washed up Centers I would take right now.

Shawn Bradely
Greg Ostertag
Keon Clark
Arvidas Sabonis (:
Scott Pollard
Loren Woods

what could we offer Boston to get Kendrick Perkins. He isn't top of the line and he would bring what we need. Reef? Have Perk backing up Miller and KT. Maybe they would take Reef/KT and some expirings for Perk and Ratliff.

What if Darko wanted to start and did not like the minutes he is getting in Orlando and wanted out (like Odom did to the Clippers a while back0. What would it take to get him here?

like I said before he wants $60 million
and thats not worth it for darko
he has his games...but looks lost offensively at times
fouls way too much and rushes his shots

Well the topic is "sign a shot blocker" :) Darko has some offensive moves, but we need somebody for their defense. He is young, tall and promising. He needs more than 15-18 minutes a game to get into any kind of rhythm (I think that has a lot to do with his fouls and rushing).

He is playing 19 minutes per game and averaging 2.1 blocks per game. That ranks him 5th in the league and everyone else playing 27+ minutes per game.

1. Okafor 38.4 mpg 4.1 blkpg
2. JO 34.5 mpg 3.67 blkpg
3. Kirilenko 29.8 mpg 2.57 blkpg
4. Dalambert 26.4 mpg 2.33 blkpg
5. Biedrins 27.9 mpg 2.18 blkpg
5. Darko 19.2 mpg 2.18 blkpg

To me that looks pretty impressive (of course with foul trouble Darko probably couldn't play more than 25 minutes a game any way :) ).
