A league source has confirmed to SI.com that the Indiana Pacers have agreed to trade controversial small forward Ron Artest to the Sacramento Kings for three-time All-Star Peja Stojakovic.
The deal, which may include a draft pick, is awaiting league approval.
Artest has spent the last month on the inactive list after he told the Indianapolis Star in mid-December that he wanted to be traded and that he didn't enjoy playing for Pacers coach Rick Carlisle. Indiana's front office quickly said they would try to accommodate Artest's request.
Long-considered one of the NBA's best sharp-shooters, Stojakovic has suffered through his worst season since 2000, averaging 16.5 points per game while shooting 40 percent from the floor. Stojakovic's struggles mirrors that of the Kings, who are in the basement of the Pacific Division with a 17-23 record.
Stojakovic's agent, David Bauman, could not confirm the report but said he thought it would be a good move for his client. "I think it's going to be a great move for Peja. He gets a new start, a chance to play for a great team for a coach who's been successful in the playoffs.
"Things have been languishing in Sacramento. He's excited about getting a new start."

Hmm.. interesting spin considering that as of this morning Peja wanted to retire in Sac.

The pick would be from Indiana if there is one. Ron makes a little more than Peja this year. It will only be a second round though. This deal is NOT OFFICIAL. This whole forum is going bat **** crazy. A plug may be pulled here.

I don't think so, PFFFT. This is pretty much a done deal. And I heard that from a VERY RELIABLE source.

And the whole idea of Peja wanting to retire as a King, is moot, as others before him.

As far as the draft pick thing goes, I was told it was a straight across trade. I think SI.com might just be hedging bets.

At this point, since the trade is being so thoroughly discussed in other threads, I'm going to close this one until and unless we hear something different.
