Shout outs for your favorite obscure band!

I thought it would be fun to start a thread to share your favorite obscure bands. Only guideline; don't just list out the band names... Give some info so people can know what albums are best or what it sounds like or what songs are really cool and/or why you like this band... Just any info to share so maybe someone else will read about your favorite obscure bands and check them out.

Bikeride

One of my all time favorite bands is an obscure bands and they created one of my top 5 favorite albums. The band: Bikeride.

This band had numerous different members including multiple Aquabats but the mastermind, Tony Carbone remained constant. He poured years of production time into their albums and it really shows. Sadly, not long after release of the album "The Kiss" (which is in my top 5 album list) Tony was diagnosed with cancer and died shortly after. The sound like a mix of the Byrds, Beach Boys, and John Lennon with a deep, layered sound, pop sensability (at times) and a modern alt-pop sound. Just a tremendous band and The Kiss is just such a great album. I originally preferred the real pop gems like "There' something odd about Elizabeth (when she wears those shoes)" and "she's radioactive" but began to really get hooked on their more complex songs like "Desitinitis" and "Trouble". I also have the album"morning macumba" which is brilliant as well.

If you have the chance, checkout Bikeride!

Interesting idea - I have one request for people. Until the Decades ipod draft is over, please don't use bands from the 70s, 80s or 90s as you could easily give away someone's sleeper pick they've been holding onto for a long time... like mine!

Bear Vs. Shark is easily one of my favorite bands of all time. They were a post-hardcore band from Michigan with a unique sound that was heavily influenced by bands like Fugazi and the Clash. Right before they broke up in 2005 they released "Terrorhawk" which was widely considered one of the best albums of the year. Definitely check these guys out, you will not be disappointed.

I hadn't heard of them, but I love Fugazi and the Clash, so I will. Thanks!

Autumn Sky

I dig on obscure artists rather than bands, at least ones not from the 70's 80's or 90's. Like right now I'm listening to a little of this local girl Autumn Sky. She plays all kinds of stringed instruments and has a real folk artist vibe. You can probably see her perform all over the place if you check out her myspace.

Check out their album People Who Can Eat People Are the Luckiest People in the World

They are a two-man folk-punk band. Incredible song-writing, awesome musicianship, the whole thing. I've already heard their new album thats coming out soon (named Can't Maintain) and its nothing short of an indie masterpiece.
