Should Brad Miller be on Notice?

I have the perfect remark to describe Brad's physical ability. A few weeks ago, I was playing vollyball on the beach at Mazatlan. A wiseguy Mexican kid on the other side of the net chided me with, "You jump like two pounds of tortillas". Ouch! True, but Ouch!! :o

Brad Miller jumps like two pounds of tortillas.

Spit my soda out laughing!:D

I can only recall a handfull of centers that moved as swiftly as a PF and ran back on defense every time. I think Brad represents the average in quickness and defense. The guy is only hauling a 7 foot frame around thats been banged up.

It could also be a reflection of the fact that when Brad is off the floor the combination is usually KT and SAR, which this season has been about as bad a rebounding duo as you could ask for.

So yes, the Kings are better rebounders when Brad is on the floor than when he's off, but that just means he's better than what's coming off the bench not that he's better than other rebounders in the league.

Yep -- I think it has almost nothing to do with Brad at all. Like many +/- stats a stat like that is entirely dependant on who backs you up. If you back Brad up with dennis rodamn, he looks like a putz. Back him up wiht Corliss, he looks like a stud. Just means that bad as we are with Brad, we're even worse with our minature backup "centers".

Jamal Sampson leads the NBA in rebounds per 48 minutes with 26.9.

And it's not even close, nobody else is above 20.

Trade Brad, Kenny, Corliss, & Skinner for KG somehow and we've got everything we need.

re: Jamal Sampson and Skinner...I never have understood why a player is even on a team, if the coach is NEVER going to use him. I can think of plenty of instances this year when it obviously wasn't working out for Brad, and Adelman either continues to play him, or subs in a shorter guy like Corliss or SAR at center. WHY? What harm would it do to play Sampson or Skinner in some real, actual game time? That's the only way to truly judge a player's potential contributions to the team, and it's the only way a young player will EVER get better.

Not to get off topic though...

Name three centers better than Brad in the league, and tell me how we could possibly fathom getting them without tearing this team apart all over again? It's a weak position league-wide. I don't think Brad has much to worry about...for now.

It comes down to using all your weapons that you have available. Certain matchups are not suitable for Miller, and that's when we should be sending in one of our ACTUAL backup centers to give him a breather.

Never mind, I just read what HndsmCelt posted last night, and he already said what I just said. Except he put it so much better.

I can't help but picture The Dude talking as I read every post, BTW.

I can name more than three, but they aren't available. And the particular way our team is now constructed may bump Brad's value to us up again (spot up shooter, Artest handler). But he simply HAS to rediscover his inner thug, get back up around 10rebs a game, and start knocking some bodies around.

Get a big shotblocker/rebounder next to him and cover his deficiencies up. Same way an Artest/Bonzi duo may be able to cover up some of Mike's deficiencies. Brad is very flawed and an "All-Star" by complete default. But he has unique skills which we are running short on. Just have to, unlike the beginning of this season, actually put together a team with a balanced lineup and defined roles to minimize the bad and benefit from the good.

]Everyone keeps saying Miller at PF ... [/B]

I just don't understand that. His offense would undoubtably suffer as a PF would actually defend Miller out at 12-18 feet. His defense, already terrible, would probably take a hit as he has the most dominating players in the league take him behind the woodshed.

Miller can't outmuscle 6'10" players that play the weakest talent spot in the league. What makes you think he'll be able to body up a PF, in the most talent-rife position in the league?

He'd be outmatched every night of the year.

It's like putting Mike Bibby on SFs or Bonzi on PFs or Reef on SGs. I think people are just asking for problems.

He has done it before and did fairly well. His first year here, Webber was out, and he WAS our PF. Vlade was at C.

That combo wasn't the greates but there is a possibility that if Adelman had kept Webber off the court that year, we may have won over 60 games.

Actually no there wasn't, since Brad and Bobby were both going down with injuries right at the wrong time. But that's a different debate.

He did do ok at PF that year. Still couldn't stop anybody. But the offense didn't suffer much (defense may have just been focused elsewhere) and it was his best rebounding effort against the smaller players.

I think Miller would be a good PF don't you think? Like Duncan and Nowitzki. We must get that perfect center! I SAY CAMBY!

I have been saying/thinking this for a while. Don't get rid of Brad because he does bring a lot of stuff to the table and would be good at PF alongside a beastly rebounding and shot blocking center. Then we have our nice supporting cast of Ron, Bonzi, and Bibby and we are a contender.

Why do people have to crusify a player on this board?????

Brad is a very important member of our team. No 2 ways about it
