Shottenheimer fired

I'm to lazy to cut and paste but ESPN is reporting that Shottenheimer was fired by the Chargers today.

What took so long? If they were going to do this they should have done it 3 weeks ago.

Dumb move. Too late in the offseason without an upgrade available. This team isn't a rebuild. It's ready to win, now.

Nolan's been here 2 years, his team record improved significantly, and is now leading a young team with the promising players at key positions with a number of relatively high draft picks and the most cap room to work with--I'm sure he and his staff are safe. :)

Or is that my sarcasm detector is not working or something?

Jechtsphere was talking about the Chargers going after 49ers assistants.

Interestingly enough it appears that what got Marty canned was losing his assistants - they kept him for stability but once they started losing assistants the stability came into question. Then he got into it with the GM over replacements - he may have tried to give the D-Cord job to his son and that would have been the final straw.

Chargers management dropped the ball big time here, if they wanted the stability they should have locked up their assistants before committing to Marty for another season. They really should have just canned Marty the day after their playoff loss when they could have had their pick of just about any coach they wanted. Now they're low on options.
