Shopping at Fry's...

G-League
...at Northgate today, I was shocked with the low number of shoppers that about evenly matched the number of the on-floor employees. Wow. I've never seen such low numbers during the usually-jam-packed shopping throngs that usually pack our stores from Thanksgiving to Christmas.

I talked to several employees and they all said that it's been this slow since
Thanksgiving; one said that the same thing is going on with the malls that she's been to with sparse shoppers and lots of available parking.

Are you shoppers seeing the same sparse-shopper phenomenons at stores/malls around Sac? I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case.

The stores up in the Grass Valley & Nevada City area seem to be doing ok, with busy shopping, but not quite as packed as normal, yet not as badly below normal as it appears to be in Sac.

People seem to really be using the internet for shopping these days. I know I prefer shopping online. I bet the shipping business is BOOMING right now. ;)

I agree. The stores and the malls might not be as busy as they have compared to previous Xmas seasons. But due to online shopping, it's more work for the shipping companies and delivery drivers!

Also, perhaps some folks feel that the economy is in a downslide, and people aren't buying as much. Not to mention the recent scare about the amount of lead in foreign-made toys!

I don't touch malls at the holiday time. It would take something pretty important and specific that I couldn't get anywhere else for me to go to a mall. I do most of my shopping online, because I can usually find better deals online. Such as the Logitech Harmony 1000 Universal remote. The remote is 499 at best by and I get it for about 285 brand new on ebay. It's a no-brainer.

Also, Fry's has gained a name for having HORRIBLE customer service if there is a warranty issue. If you buy that warranty you expect to have no hassle fixes, you get nothing but hassles at Fry's. Also, their refurb equipment is crap.

Online business is...

...booming, of course, but the total aggregate business done online does not make up for the massive shortfalls in the total amount of consumer spending that is happening right now.

I can go on and on with this matter, but then it would degenerate into a political shout-fest, so, regretfully, I'll just say nuth'n, 'cept for my initial observation about my Fry's excursion. I've had a bunch of PMs with the mods of this forum on the matter of political discussions, so I'm just going to have to zip my lip, er, keyboard and walk away, figuratively.

Strange name, "Fry's", as if it's reminiscent of the word, "fried", when the store specializes in electronics, eh? What were the founders think'n?

Um, I think you're trying a little too hard to find some hidden meaning. The store is named Fry's for the simple reason it was founded by the Fry Brothers of Sunnyvale.

VF, quit it with the logic! It takes all the fun out of it. :p
