Share your opinion: Best place to get a cold fountain drink?

Today is muggy and hot and the perfect day for an icy cold fountain drink.
Where, in your opinion, is the best place to get a fountain drink (non-alcoholic beverage in a cup)?

For my money, AM/PM has impressed me time and time again; they have good prices, Coke and Pepsi products, crushed AND cubed ice, a wide variety of cup choices (they always have a novelty/collector's cup of some kind and a giant insulated cup available) and now pumps of flavor shots you can add to your drink (Cherry, Cranberry, Energy, etc). I wish the ambiance was better and that they offered Vanilla flavor shots, but you cannot win them all.


What are your thoughts?
 
I used to always think the movie theatre. Seems like they put much more corn-syrup (or maybe it just settles more) in their soda fountains so they always taste super sweet.

I can see the pluses and minuses to that... the plus is the ambiance and flavor, the minus being the cost.
 
AM/PM hands down.....the choice between the crushed and cubed ice is definitely a plus. The variety for sure is a plus. I grew up with 7-11 which would win a slushed beverage contest, but I have seen few places that have the variety of AM/PM

You might see if they have vanilla flavor over near the coffee center.
 
As a dedicated ice chewer (yes, everyone hates me for it), the crushed ice at am/pm makes it a strong contender. However, for the sake of variety, I'd have to go with Sonic. You couldn't pay me to eat one of their burgers, and I've never given any of their other food a try, but the drink menu is awesomeness.

Those are two things I hate to an extremely high degree. Combined together. So, I think this thread wages on.

On a non-ridiculous note, I am also an ice chewer. I rarely visit AM/PM though. I'll have to go check their dual ice soon though...
 
Don't know about the best but I could tell you the worst. The Carl's Jrs in the Sacramento area all have watery coke.
 
Are those available at a fountain, 'cuz if they are they soooo win...well, the Mint Chocolate ones would win hands down...:)


Hmmmmm....Sonic, I hadn't considered them because they keep teasing me with one coming to Natomas, which tho far from where I live is closer than freaking Woodland. But when I go to visit family where the Sonic is a mere few minutes away from their house - their "Happy Hour" drink special would lead me to lean more in favor of them simply because i am addicted to their cherry limeade (and thank you Sonic for making a lite version which at least makes me feel less guilty about getting the big*** cup)
 
A good cold Coke is the best thing in the world. And I agree that McD's fountains are usually pretty good for a Coke.
 
I can't believe this is such a popular topic... is it because I rarely drive anymore (under 10k on the clock in 6 years) and when I do my car doesn't have cup holders? I'd never go out of my way for a fountain drink, though I have perfected the art of driving a 5-spd without cupholders for the occasional drive through meal.

yeah, i don't get that. they advertise with commercials all the time in NYC, yet the nearest one is three hours away in southern pennsylvania... :confused:
 
There's a Shell gas station around the corner from my job, and they have $.89 32 ounce fountain drinks as a summer special (not this summer, last summer, but they never stopped running the special).

What makes it even better is that, in that fountain, they have my most favorite soft drink of all time, hands down....

here in MA we have cumberland farms .. idk if you guys have it in cali.

anyways they have something called a chill zone year round .. 69cents for a 32oz slush, they have crazy good flavors like strawberry banana, watermelon and some wierd one like monster energy .. i like to mix em up.

Never liked Code Red. Live wire was OK, though.

Coke slurpees are awesome.

Best selection of flavors (and I can get my fave Diet Dr. Pepper) with crushed or cubed ice..........gotta be...........AM/PM!!!!!!
 
I've seen probably a million sonic comercials but I've never seen one freakin sonic restaurant ever and I live in la! Ha!

As a for soda I've stopped drinking it for about to years. I love it but just try and stay away. I never really had a particular place to get my soda fix back in the day but whenever it came out of a gun from a restaurants bar it was always perfect. Mmmmmm miss it :)

There's one in Culver City on Venice (I think its Venice). Not horribly far from the Sony lot, wedged between a sea of other fast food junk.
 
Sheesh...somebody's out to kill the fountain soda discussion with a dose of scientific reality.... :p

I drink the sugar-free stuff which probably is loaded with 7 heaping spoons of something I shouldn't have 7 spoons of, but oh well...

After reading this list, Soda's sugar content is not THAT bad. It is about the same to a piece of berry pie... and berry pie is good for you, right?

Seriously...think about how many cans of soda some people drink in a day. Then think about the cup sizes at many of those mini-marts. Not good.

Honestly, I really only care about this because I'm a teacher and I see EVERY DAY how many sodas kids drink. Take the vending machines away at school and they just bring it from home...bought by their parents. Not good for learning, let me tell you...

Oh, shoot...there I go raining on your parade again...

As a future dentist, I call this job security. ;)

Oh, and as far as "fountain drink", I'll take a Cherry Pepsi but it has to be a regular Pepsi made cherry with grenadine syrup, delicious.
