Season Analysis from Carril

This man tells it like it is. No sugarcoating.

Carril: “I’d have to say our rookies (played) extremely well, led by Tyreke, of course… He’s just a young kid. The expectations of him are too high, but if he learns to become a more prominent point guard and things like that, he’ll be fine. He has to work on his defense, too.

I love it about the "nonagression pact." :D

Carrill is great. He's obviously trying to lower Tyreke expectations and raise Tyreke's motivation (if he needs it). Interesting also about Brockman. Carrill doesn't see Brockman as just a smasher, and he wants Brockman to see himself the same way - a basketball player who could do more than just get rebs and smash people.

Carril never avoids the truth. Just tells it as it is. I liked his analysis much more than katy's. She made some good points, but failed IMO to honestly critique some of the players. She seemed to sugarcoat just about anything that might come off as negative.

Back to Carril, I'm glad to see he really seems to be engaged with this group. Working with JT will be great for him.

When you're already in 2 halls of fame, have enough money to last the rest of your life, and smile on the idea of retirement, outspokenness probably comes pretty easy. :D

There's an old saying that eventually you reach an age where you no longer suffer fools. What that really means is that your finally old enough to retire and you don't have to suffer fools anymore. For those unfamiliar with the english language, that means you don't have to kiss anyone's a$$ anymore.

Apparently I haven't reached that point yet, because I'm still on this fourm.:p

The man is a basketball sage...

I like his recommendation on having guys go against each other in 1-on-1 games, to improve their man defense. Why worry about team defense when you can't even guard your own man?

Because team defense can help hide the lack of good man defenders. Which is of course the purpose of the zone defense. Thats why its hard to judge how good a defender a player from Syracuse will be. Because they play a zone all the time.

I picture Reke running drills with Carril riding piggyback, a la Yoda and Luke.

MMMMmmm. Dominant this one can be!

Team defense is important too since players are so good offensively in teh NBA, but if you can't even defend your own man, then obviously your overall team defense is going to suck as well, because your team will need to play help defense a lot.
