Scott Perry is the new GM of Sacramento Kings

Doug did a pretty good job. He looked fantastic at times and others not. I think he should interview as others have said. I don't know if Malone would interview, we should inquire. We should also interview Jenkins and Budenholzer.

People say the west is so stacked, and it is. But how much longer can LeBron, Kawhi, Harden continue at the top of they're game? There is instability in Memphis and who knows what will happen with Morant. Who knows what will happen with the Nuggets with a new GM and coach?

I think the Kings have some assets. With the right personnel and coaching moves there is an opportunity here. I hope we can take advantage of it.
We have the fewest assets we have had in a long time. Not even a legit draft pick this year. The only real asset are the young guys we shouldn’t be looking to offload.

We have 9 1st round picks in the next seven years that can be used as assets in a trade.

Use them and die potentially, lol. Gotta remember the Stepien rule. I think because of that Atlanta pick situation the Kings are somewhat hampered on what picks they can use and when although losing it this year does clear that up finally at least. Not to mention the Kings didn't get their 2031 pick swap back.

If we don't hit the lottery from our t-13 slot (one more combo or one less combo based on that coin toss) then we can legitimately trade 6 first round picks entirely this offseason. We only need to retain '27 (ours or SA's), '29 (our own), and '31 (MIN or ours with the SA swap option).

Trading that many picks away would be pretty foolish, but we could do it.

one of them is burdened by a swap with SA

That doesn't affect the ability to trade it, but it will probably affect the value downwards.

And that's an issue because the only ones teams would be asking for are the Kings own. Hence why this could turn into a decade long mess should they go that route. Leave that crack alone Vivek!

Well, obviously some of this is wearing purple-colored glasses, but I'm not sure I would value our own '31 pick over the Minny '31 pick we now own outright. Like, if you told me that we could have the swap removed on our '31 pick by straight up transferring the swap to the Minny pick, I don't know if I would do that.

But we're probably four years from being able to make a very educated guess about whether that would be the right call.

In all seriousness, I suspect they will name a coach and there will be a joint press conference at that time.

The exit interviews were already something of a formal Kings press conference late last week.

So the question is whether we'll hear anything about interviews for the head coaching job or if they'll just slap it on us like they did with Perry hours after Monte was fired.

That would probably hinge on if Doug is retained. I can't imagine a full coaching search conducted in private. Although if it saves us from a name like Mark Jackson resurfacing please do this as quiet as possible.

seems it would be appropriate to have one by now doesn’t it

I would think this week but like PDX said, maybe it’s going to be a joint thing with the coach. Given this was in the works for awhile and we have heard nothing on a search, it’s fair to assume Doug is getting the job.

Yeah, I’d love to hear from the new GM in some form even if his answers or talking points are shallow. Just something

if Vivek actually listens to Scott AND he hires a proper analytical draft evaluator this could end up being a great hire. He is outstanding as the mouthpiece of the organization and as a relationships guy. Given we are back to being a dumpster fire we need a well respected voice for the organization. Looking forward to hearing from him

Perry does seem to be much better of a communicator than Monte. And keep in mind Vlade had real basketball people doing the work including Perry for a short time then Brandon Williams, Vlade was supposed to be the friendly face after PDA. It was a disaster but that was the thinking.

Still since they just had the end of season press event I don't see Perry having a solo presser until they decide on the coach. That's just how Vivek seems to work, I'm fine with it. Obviously Sacramento media makes a huge issue out of them consolidating press conferences, since you know, that's a week or two's worth of content for them. Plus they can probably write off a bunch of stuff related to attending, get a free meal, etc.

Did the Kings replace their scouting department? Monte was always talking about his scouts being big on any draft decisions so I would imagine they might not be out of a gig. They shouldn't be. That's one of the other things that seems to be working.

I haven’t heard. Phil Jabour was pretty heavily involved in the draft stuff. I’d be happy if he stayed

I'm curious if they will add an assistant from outside the org or promote from within but I would think a lot of scouts would remain. Fundamentally aside from some philosophical choices about roster makeup, the players picked have the right tools. Whoever was working on the undrafted pickups we made especially. If that wasn't Monte or Wes, hopefully we are keeping whoever found Keon and Isaac Jones.

It begs the question,...being that Vlade was a disaster as GM, why is he back in place to give advice or preside in some way for the front office?

This is like firing a head coach and then bringing him back shortly after to be your coordinator

Are you talking about Perry? Or Vlade in the ambassador role which he apparently also has with the Lakers?

Hopefully they announce the coaching situation. I'd like Doug back but I guess if they open a search it shows Perry might be in charge.
Doug had a fast start but the team looked very disjointed at the end I’d have a hard time seeing him stay as the HC. But love the guy as a person

He basically coached 3 teams. Fox team, Zach team, and then an injury riddled team to finish the season. He lost a big assistant as well. If they add the correct assistants I think he'll be fine if the team has the summer to install an offense, learn to play together, etc. It's clear Zach and Domas were still figuring each other out and then both had some struggles, Zach with his personal issue and Domas getting hurt. Too early to say definitively that he isn't the guy, imho.

Besides if we tear down the team at the break, he's the sort of coach that's ideal for a rebuild.

It was just a bunch on ISO Derozan by the end. Ball movement was poor. Never did push the pace. Even if its backups you could see there was little coaching going on.
