You keep defending Grant, which is fine as everyone is entitled to their opinion, but what I don't get is that if a poster here acts the way Grant does towards many callers and has over many years, you'd ban him within a few days. I can't go around here calling other posters morons, telling them to jump off buildings and dunk their head in the toilet because they don't know what the hell they're talking about. I can't flat out call another poster a freakin moron, which I've heard Grant say numerous times and all of these are examples of what he says to callers, Kings fans, Sacramento residents.

So I'm generally curious, why are you defending Grant so much when you quickly silence any posters here who act the same way? Seems hypocritical to me to downplay the way Grant treats Kings fans while being up in arms if someone here were to do the same. You generally preach civility more than any MOD here, so I find it quite odd you're a staunch defender of arguably the least civil sports radio host I've ever heard.

Im on VF's side on this. I just think people are making WAY too big a deal out of Grant. Either way he really just doesnt hold influence on where this franchise is going. We have brand new owners ready to throw money at our city. Of course people are allowed to not like Grant, this is America after all. But some people on this board act like he broke down their door and burned their house down after stealing their family. The way Grant interacts with callers is a completely different thing from being a mod on a forum and preventing useless arguments that are off topic.

Considering he had a captive audience, and that he was the face of the station that held that audience, Grant did a horrible disservice to the community and fans in how he handled the situation. The way he and the Maloofs behaved reflected an idea that the Sacramento audience is gullible and easy to manipulate and pacify.

To back up my point, I turn on Napear's show because of your comment that he tried to save face and explain his position. So I turn it on today as I'm driving across the bay. He goes over what the KHTK guy on before him said, that it's time now to talk about future moves the Kings can make and that it's time to talk basketball. Okay, I'm with him there. He then says he thinks the first big decision this franchise make is what to do with Demarcus Cousins. I think the first big decision is the GM, but I can see how it can be Cousins. No problem so far. He then proceeds to propose a trade of Demarcus Cousins to the Boston Celtics for Jeff Green. Instant spit-take. Was he serious? He seemed serious. Was this a conversation hypothetical? Unclear. The next three callers then proceed to agree with trading Cousins. Whaaa? Then the fourth caller praises Napear for how he handled the show in the recet past in concern to the Maloofs. WHAAAAAAAAT THE HELL.

What's ironic about this part of the show is that not two minutes before discussing trading Cousins, Grant refused to talk about what coaches could be brought in to replace Smart. Grant said that Smart is under contract and he's not going to discuss a coach leaving or being replaced while under contract. No problems throwing Cousins under the bus though. What does this mean? Grant likes Smart as a person and doesn't like Cousins. Grant knows his words have influence and doesn't want to use them to hurt Smart, but has no problems using them to hurt Cousins.

Give me a guy on the radio who wants to talk basketball, not play office politics.

With much love, I don't see what the infatuation is with Kayte Christenson. She was good, but not "bring her back after 5 years" good.

I would love to see Napear stay as well as Jerry Reynolds. But I would like to see "Carmichael" Dave Weiglen have a bigger role than what he had. Something like a Kings "on camera" contributor. Like a side line reporter or a lifestyle/feature reporter for pre game and/or halftime.

As far as radio, I would like to see Jason Ross be the heir apparent to Gary Gerold. I feel that over time JR has earned at least a chance to do PBP once Gerold retires.

I agree on Jason Ross. I know him personally and he's a great guy, however, as I told him the last time I saw him, he needs to shed a few pounds and get back to the guy that could go one on one. I'm not a fan of Kozimor. The few times I met him in person he was an a$$. He had a sports talk show, that unless it was Kings talk night, seldom talked sports. Thats where he got in trouble with Grant when he sat in for Grant when he was on vacation.

Personally I liked Kayte Christenson. I thought she had screen presence, was very knowledgable, and articulated her points extremely well. I think she would be excellent on a pre, or post game show. Kozimor and his nonsense can stay in the bay area as far as I'm concerned.

I didn't listen to the show today, and probably won't waste bandwidth on it at any time in the near future, but is it possible Grant was merely saying something to rile up his listeners? I would think the calls have gotten pretty tame what with all the good news lately and you don't get ratings if your show is all hugs and cuddles all the time...

I'm going to say this as carefully as I can, so as not to violate a trust. VF21 has some serious issues with Grant, which I won't go into. As a matter of fact, I share those issues. The fact that she's going out of her way, to some extent, defend Grant, shows me that she has integrity, and that she doesn't let her personal emotions get in the way of being fair and honest. I wish I could say the same for some of the other posters on this fourm. Your way off base here, and I hope I haven't overstepped a trust.

Are you sure you're thinking of Kayte and not Kara Lawson? Kayte is one of the most personable people ever...and I know. I met her personally at a House Party Live event. Very engaging and easy to talk to. Not at all awkward by any stretch of the imagination.

Who are these Kings fans? These aren't the fans I know. These aren't the fans on this forum. Even the biggest Cousins haters here wouldn't trade him for Jeff Green. That's one of the dumbest trades I've ever heard proposed by a show host. So I am still waiting to see if its a joke. If this is all show. Finally a caller challenges the Jeff Green trade idea and Napear backs up the seriousness of his idea, and says he would make that trade in a heartbeat.

He's an idiot. He pacifies his audience for either himself or his employer. The voice of the fans needed someone like him to say what needed to be said and he chickened out. He's brash enough to propose such a ridiculous trade and have people call in to agree with him. He must go.

So we have people saying Jason Ross deserves to go more than the most visible and influential media person, Grant Napear, who seriously and very publicly advocates trading the single greatest hope this franchise has had in nearly 20 years for Jeff Green.

The telltale sign of the damage this does is that his "callers" (if you can call them that, I guess technically they did call) agree.

So you say he's doing it for ratings. Ok. But it's the same thing the Maloofs were doing (on a much smaller scale), you're sabotaging the team (by influencing people's opinions by spewing this garbage, and then making it look like the whole town agrees with you), using your position of power, all to serve yourself.

Grant is not a team player. That's my issue.

I really like Jeff Green and think he will have a breakout year, but not for Cousins (besides, who would start at Center? Chuck Hayes? Cole Aldrich?)

Anyway, as several posters have commented, I like Grant as a PBP announcer but I don't like his style for the radio show. Personally I liked the more civil style before the Jim Rome in-your-piehole kind of show seemed to take over everywhere. Now everyone has to have a better "take" than everyone else rather than a discussion.

If you want to grab torches and pitchforks over somebody, why not target Jason Jones, the Kings BEAT REPORTER for the Sacramento Bee? He's an embarrassment and knows less about the Kings, Sacramento fans and sports in general than anybody not named Ric Bucher.

I am glad to see someone point this out. I have found it ironic that during the past 2 weeks (which have been extremely important to the Kings and their fans) Jason Jones has been no where to be seen. If you wanted good information on what was going on, you were better off following Carmichael Dave (from his garage), Sam Amick and Aaron Bruski. And the few times Jason Jones did send out a tweet on the subject it was usually a retweet of one of those 3. There have been many reporters who have covered the Kings I thought did a poor job, but Jason Jones is a joke IMO.

There is a big difference between this forum and the radio. While Grant's purpose is to talk about sports, it is also about entertainment and ratings. That is not the case on this forum. If someone is droning on and on in one of their posts or saying something completely ridiculous, we can just skip to the next post. When listening to the radio we don't have that option, especially when it is the only sports radio available in town. I don't know how many times when listening to the radio I have wished for a caller to be cut off for various reasons. Now maybe Grant can be a too blunt about it at times, but that is part of his radio persona.

I caught part of his show after he mentioned this trade. I guarantee the Celtics would jump at that trade and hope they could pull it off before the Kings came to their senses. Grant also tried to insinuate that the Kings would ultimately have to choose between Cousins and Tyreke (stating that Tyreke didn't like playing with Cousins). I thought that was interesting since I have never seen those 2 seem to have any problems with each other, but have seem them have problems with other players at different times.

I was going to ask for some more detail about what Grant said for a couple of reasons. 1. I didn't listen, and 2. I wondered if it was along the lines of the vitriolic stuff Grant ranted about Bobby J. back in the day.

After reading the rest of your post, however, I hesitate to even ask for clarification.

I thought Grant was the source of the info that the Kings wanted to get rid of Cuz and now many media outlets and fans are running with that story. I guess the question is whether there is any source other than Grant that voices huge displeasure with Cuz? The story that the Kings are trying to trade Cuz sure has legs and I'd hate to think that is simply because Grant has a personal axe to grind.

Media figures influence the public constantly. What do you think PR is about?
Multi-billion-dollar industries don't exist for decades for no reason....

When Napear constantly disseminates propaganda to tens of thousands (?) of listeners, day in and day out, for months/years, it DOES influence the team, fandom, and therefore the decision-making criteria for the team.

I've been a fan of Napear's since around 1997, when he used to be an objective (and accurate) critic/supporter of the team. His observations used to be sound.
Nowadays, they are invariably based on personal experiences and emotion/hype.
This recent targetting of DMC traces back to a specific day. It was around Dec 5th, 2012 or so (I vaguely remember) when Grant opened his show and attacked DMC for 2 straight hours, slowly dictating and controlling the message and discussion about Demarcus.
Since then, Grant has led the witchhunt against DMC, and has actively done almost everything a radio host can do to get DMC traded from the Kings.
I don't know what DMC did to Grant, but we all can guess that Demarcus called Grant out, in person, tired of his ****/schtick.

I used to respect Grant's in-your-face attitude, because as I remember, he had little problem with people being blunt back to him.
That changed (IIRC) around 2005 or so, when Grant got hypocritical, and he lies about him not having a problem with people calling him out.

Grant's complete and utter full-time defense of Keith Smart, and refusal to allow ANY discussion about the coaching staff's incompetence, combined with his witchhunt of DMC and blaming him for everything makes me, as a Kings fan, wish Grant GONE.
Grant will do more damage to this team if he gets DMC traded than any other person in the organization.
Thinking that a radio host, who week after week demonizes someone, does not influence the public is simply ignoring the reality of contemporary media.

But that's par for the course - VF21 and many others here don't believe that Brick and other prominent posters here can influence the group-think of KF's.com, either.
