Many of you are underestimating Jeff Foster, but many Pacer fans do also.
No he's not a shotblocker, he just isn't. But remember Karl Malone wasn't a shoblocker either and he did that little thing of stripping the ball before the guy got the ball above his shoulders, Jeff does that just not as well as Karl.
Jeff is not a banger, he just isn't. But he's extremely quick and fast. His feet and hands are as quick as any player near his height. I've said for years that Jeff is a great defender against the quick and mobile power forwards. Players like Lamar Odom, Antoine Walker, he defends players like that IMO better than anyone in the NBA. He's not a great low-post one-on-one defender, and yet he defends Duncan and KG very well also.
If EMuss plans on fronting the post Jeff is an expert in doing that. Jeff is just an extremely valuable defensive player.
Jeff is also a great guy, never complains, plays hard every second he's on the floor and he always follows the gameplan. He's an energy guy and that rubs off on his teammates.
Rebounding: Jeff just has a nose for the ball. he gets rebounds when it looks like he has no chance, he slivers inbetween players for offensive rebounds. Sure he's not a big bruising defensive rebounding, but he blocks out and gets his share.
Offensively: He's really improved his free throwing shooting the last two season. Certainly not Brad Miller in this area, but he's not Ben Wallace either. His offensive game is not good, he has no confidence in his shot and even though he's a decent ball handler and driver, he doesn't do that very often. So yes teams do help off of him, but as soon as the ball is in the air, teams scramble to bock him out. In fact in the Pacers - Nets playoff series, the Nets often used two players to keep Jeff off the offensive boards.
I'd love to answer any of your questions regarding Jeff. He's my favorite player on the Pacers after you took my former favorite player a few months back.
I'll post something on Saras a little later
