I understand the certain amount of saavy that went into this proposal -- all the pieces have a reason to be there. Ellis comes over to play combo guard next to Evans, which no less an authority than, well, me

, has said is the right mix. We get a youngish shotblocker/rebounder. Meanwhile Kevin would thrive in Nellie's all open court no defense system, even if he might take a while to settle in at PF, Nellie gets a chubbie over getting himself a true 3pt shooting center who's career he can ruin by encouraging all his worst instincts and turning him into Lafrentz Pt. II, and Devean George is brought on board with his superstar potential to help make up for the loss of K9 the Wonderdog.
So get all of that. Its well thought out to that degree. But:
1) Ellis is selfish and immature, you run a risk there of importing a cancer
2) Ellis is a midget, basically just a PG without any PG skills. If he's the combo guard you put next to Evans, Evans is never gaurded by the opposing team's PG ever again, and all that juicy power and poist game is wasted on players his own size and larger (SGs).
3) Nellie's system is ridiuclous of cours,e so its damned hard trying to predict what the numbers of guys leaving hissystem will look like in yours. Can Ellis and Biedrins play outisde of the Nellie chuck and duck?
4) Biedrins is a shotblocker and a rebounder, but he's also quite thin and a long way from physical. You might gain in your target traits, but still have nobody to stop a strong inside player. That might be ok, but by trading away Spence, it leaves us still wiht only two big guys (as opposed ot the Okafor and Dalembert rumors which would have givne us three). And Biedrins has begun to look injury prone of late as well.
5) Kenny Thomas is thrown in to make salaries work, but Kenny, as a big ender, isn't a "throw in", he's a valuable trading piece. He represents our chance at nabbing a singificant free agent next summer. Accordingly I would want to know about that #1. What year and what protections? Make it this year w/ no protections then that's intriguing (of course with Golden State trading for an injured KMart and virtually assuring themselves of continued sucking, it would be prodigiously dumb of them to trade away their unprotected pick). Make it lottery protected in 3 years and its not much of a counterbalance.
