Now that it looks like Artest may have some trade value afterall, here's a hybrid trade that could go down on traft day. Doesn't work on realgm, but salaries will match this summer once Gooden goes off BYC status.

I'm not that high on Gooden, but this would give the Kings some $14 million in expiring contracts, just in time for a loaded 2008 free agency. Getting the #20 pick would be nice, too, as I'd like to see Petrie maybe package the Miami pick and Sac's own for a mid-lottery big man, if at all possible.

Say we traded #20 and #10 (or whatever we end up with) and get a Spencer Hawes-level player. Have another losing season (but exciting with JWill and developing youth) and you enter the 2008 draft with a lotto pick. Draft Darren Collison with the 6 or 7 pick, and you enter 2008 free agency (with a lot of big names) with $15 million in cap space and a lineup of:

PG: Darren Collison/Garcia/Price?
OG: Martin/Douby
SF: Salmons/Wright (Restricted FA)
PF: (Big name FA)/Gooden/Thomas
C: Hawes/Miller

Hire Vlade as an assistant coach, and watch Hawes turn into the best passing big man in the league learning from the two best in recent years. He's got a great post game too. Collison and Martin would be a speedy backcourt, and not bad on the defensive end. Still a lack of athleticism inside (Gooden doesn't help much there), but could make a move in FA with the ton of cap space. Not the best rebuilding plan (Miller and Thomas are still around, and are making a bunch of $$ while we want to be playing the kids) but could be an interesting one.

Honestly, we would serious suck. Hawes couldnt get a decent Washington team into the NIT.

Yeah, you're probably right. If we could definitely make sure we got a top 5 pick out of this, though, I think we'd be allright. Perhaps Cleveland could provide additional sweetner, but they don't have a pick.

Just trade artest and draft an athletic big man and we should be back on track, if we are going to mess the roster like that its better to do like Boston...

I think our team seriously is fine minus Artest.. Really. This guy just brings us down. Perhaps it is because he is not a good mix with the players we have, but we play 100% better when he is not here.

Now if we could get some value for the guy I am all for it. Hell, even a late First rounder would be fine by me. Than we can draft Nick Fazekias of Nevada. Hell, at this moment I am willing to let Artest go for cap space..

We'll probably trade Ron to some place like MN for a back up PG like Mike James. Or if charges aren't pressed and his value gets a little higher I could see a team like the Spurs or someone else with a late first and filler making a deal for him.

With that mid-late first(depending on the team) I'd draft Tywon Lawson or Dominic James.

Another trade that I could see Petrie doing, along with the one above:

Miller/Salmons for Jamison
(can add in SAR to GS, Jasikevicus to Wash, Haywood to Sac to make things interesting, too)

Of course would be too competitive of a team, and would be horribly soft, but you're telling me you couldn't see Petrire doing this? Jamison adds another expiring contract to the bunch, however, giving the Kings some $28 million in expiring deals for the summer of 2008.

2007 lineup:
Hawes/Williams
Gooden/KT
Jamison/Garcia
Martin/Douby
Williams/Price

2008 lineup:
Hawes/Williams
[FA big man]/Gooden/KT
[FA young swing]
Martin/Douby
Collison/Price

no team with john salmons in the staring lineup is going to be a contender. i mean the guy is ok i guess. his beard is cool. but this guy is a poor mans josh howard. salmons is an intangible player, but just not a good one. im ok with martin and bibby staring next year. our other 3 starters need to be changed.

Actually, heres a simpler deal:

SAC
Out: Bibby/Miller/Artest/Salmons ($37 mil)
In: Jamison/Williams/Wright/Doleac/Haywood ($35 mil, $30 mil expiring) + Miami pick (21)

Miami
Out: Williams/Doleac/Wright ($14 mil) + pick
In: Artest/D. Jones ($12 mil)

Cleve
Out: Gooden, D. Jones ($10.5 mil)
In: Bibby ($13.5 mil)

Wash
Out: Jamison/Haywood ($21 mil)
In: Milller/Gooden/Salmons ($21.5 mil)

Kings get some $30 million in expirings for 2008, which would give them a ton of room under the cap to make some moves. Jamison could be useful in a S&T as well. Would be nice to see Petrie move up in the draft, but even with #7 and #21 could pick up, say, Jianlan/Hawes and Fazekas and have a promising frontcourt for the future. Then draft Collison or another quick, promising PG with a 8-15 range pick in 2008.

Heat get a 3rd start to compliment Wade and Shaq, and get Jones back, who hasn't been the same since he left. The dominant personalities of Shaq, Riles, and Wade keep Artest in check, and he's happy to be on a contender again.

Cleveland finally gets Bibby, and if you assume Varajao starts next year, they do it without losing a starter.

Washington gets a younger post player and don't have to deal with resigning Jamison. Miller adds passing; Arenas could average 40 with Miller setting him up with backdoor cuts and pick-and-pops. Etan Thomas can cover Miller's defensive liabilities, and the Thomas/Haywood distraction is over. Salmons compliments Arenas well with D and ballhandling at the 2.

You forgot to add Kenny Thomas:

CLE: Mike Bibby, Kenny Thomas
MIA: Ron Artest, Damon Jones
SAC: Jason Williams, Eric Snow, Drew Gooden, Michael Doleac, Ira Newble

You forgot to add Kenny Thomas:

CLE: Mike Bibby, Kenny Thomas
MIA: Ron Artest, Damon Jones
SAC: Jason Williams, Eric Snow, Drew Gooden, Michael Doleac, Ira Newble

Add it into my more recent deal, and you get an additional 3-4 million off the cap in 08 with Newble. Don't like the idea of adding both Gooden and Snow's deals, and getting Jamison instead of Gooden would be much better in terms of cap space. Although losing KT and his deal in almost any scenario is nice. :D

I like swapping Bibby with Darren Collison. I like it a lot. But that involves a lot of uncontrollable factors which we can't really count on. Any number of young defensive-minded college PGs would help us though (Collison, Lawson, Conley Jr.), and a lot of them should be entering the draft in the next two years so I think moving Bibby now would be a good idea even if it means a year of Ronnie Price starting.

I don't understand the point of moving Artest though for Drew Gooden and Dorrell Wright. Wright has potential as a trade throw-in, but I wouldn't trade a key player for him unless you're really just trying to unload them. I think Artest, regardless of how people think of him personally, is still too valuable on the court to simply dump him for 10 cents on the dollar. Gooden is a borderline liability with his inconsistent game and huge contract. Not exactly a desirable building piece for a team that's far from contention. I'd swap Kenny Thomas for Gooden any day of the week, but not Artest. That's a huge talent drain and it wouldn't be in our favor.

Washington is a playoff team, and borderline contender in the East. Trading for Jamison is a pipedream at this point. No way they let him go for a declining Brad Miller and Drew Gooden.
