Rondo for us is that good we won't be getting a better pg in any other way.
Rondo max starts at 30% of the cap if the cap is 89mill he gets 26mill. Now let me explain why Rondo WILL be getting that money here for 4-5years.
Let's say Rondo keeps up his average for the rest of the year 16/6/11 and we get the 8th seed. This would be our best season since our last playoff appearance and this is sacramento no FA is coming here so you'll either use the money on him or overpay Belinelli type players. Coming off a playoff series going to a news arena with the city pumped are we really gonna burst that bubble and not bring him back. How are DMC/Gay gonna react if we didn't pay him and miss the playoffs next 2 years then they both leave. If we make the playoffs I think going foward we are set at C/PF/SF so if we don't resign rondo I guessing you'd want to upgrade at SG with Collison starting at pg. A big 3 of DMC/Gay/Rondo is very good going foward weta vs to hope that WCS becomes an elite defender, we get a coach that's defensive, and Marco gets back to being an elite shooter.
Also Rondo was severely underpaid on Boston if he plays like this and we make the playoffs he's asking for the max believe that.
Rondo doesn't deserve the max though. Even at his current level of play, he's not anything close to a max player. While making the playoffs for the first time in over 8 years would be amazing, I don't think Kings fans would be upset at all if we decided NOT to give Rondo 23million...
For $23million, we can have both Lin and Barnes, or Lin and Batum, or Lin and Fournier. Hell, maybe even Lin and Whiteside.
OR we could go completely on the other route and go after Mike Conley.
Rondo should NOT get a 4-5 year contract extension for $23million. That's insane and absurd. Do you know how much Kobe made this season? $25million! We are not playing in the LA market, nor are we the most popular team in the NBA player, nor we do have a former top 10 all around NBA player, nor is Rondo a legend.
Who says Cuz and Gay won't walk out at the end of their contract? So if they leave, we get stuck with a terrible contract and unplayable player in Rondo for 2 years. Rondo has had major injuries in his previous season. There's no reason why we should bend our backs in order to pay Rondo.
If there's a team out there willing to pay him 15+, we should let them. Rondo will turn 30 in February. 3/4 of his game relies on his quickness and athleticism. For a player who's had major injuries, is at the end of his prime, and is reaching 30, how many good years does he have left?
Vlade cannot afford to cripple our future like he already has..especially since a lot of it rolls on us being competitive. I'm also unsure if we'll even retain Karl for next year. If we drop him, it means all of the players will have to learn an entire new scheme and struggle through it in their 1st year.
Anthony Davis recently signed a 4years $145million dollar contract. Keep in mind, a lot of them are incentive earnings like making the AS as 1st team. Even keeping that out, he's going to make $29million a year because the Pellies had his rights..so he's basically a max player.
Is Rondo worth the same? hell no.
I don't know..I'm kind of outraged that anyone thinks paying Rondo that type of Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, and etc money is a good idea. Especially since he's not even a top 40 player...might even be able to extend that to top 50 and more.
