Rubio back in Sacramento today

The Ricky Rubio red flags continue to fall, as the news that his buyout situation is almost resolved is followed by news that the Spanish point guard will work out in Sacramento today.
I've been told by a source close to Rubio that the above report is accurate, that he will fly from Los Angeles to Sacramento today and get on the floor to give the Kings a taste of what could be to come. This comes on the same day on which the Kings have their last scheduled workout, as Pittsburgh's Sam Young heads a group today that consists mostly of late first round or second round prospects.
To review, Rubio didn't work out during his Sacramento visit last week after getting sick and eventually visiting with Oklahoma City (which picks third) in LA.

OKC may have had Ricky in for a workout, but I didn't see Sam Presti flying overseas like Petrie...clearly we have shown more interest and racked up more frequent flyer miles in his pursuit.

I think working against Evans would have hurt his stock, Evans does one on ones like a grown @** man. Evans would have eaten him alive, because that's not Rubios game. As for the rest of those guys, they would probably have differed to Rubio.

Anyway, I'm glad he's in town and I hope he shows us enough to justify my being a huge, giddy school girl kind of fan right now.

Wonder if there's going to be a video...that would be awesome.

Probably not. More leverage for us. I'm still not sure if he's going to be working out with the other guys, but it's my guess he does an individual workout and a video gets put up about the Sam Young- headed pre-draftees.

From what I understand, Rubio did not go to OK or work out for them.... The Thunder front office flew to LA to talk with Ricky and review his contract mess.

I am stoked that Rubio worked out for Sac especially knowing Petrie will not draft players that do not work out for him... makes me feel that Petrie can make the best choice at #4, whomever that is, without reservation. I would have hated to have to pass on Rubio because he would not work out.

At around 1 o'clock Amick reported on Twitter:
Staring @ the practice facility curtain as Ricky Rubio is inside with Kings. We did have a Kings-asst.-to-be Mario Elie sighting, though.

I still don't think the kings will try to move up. If Rubio falls to 4 ok, then we take him. But, Evans and Flynn have showed that they could be valuable too. So, Rubio is he's there, then BPA. Too me, that's Evans.

Rubio didn't sound too confident of his workout...hmmm.
Actually, I thought he just looked a little tired. And he's right that the workout formats don't generally show what he's best at. Probably the reason, his camp wasn't too excited about workouts, in the first place.

I'd hope that we're smart enough to pay little attention to workouts by PGs or defensive players. I'm not saying that we are, but I'd hope that we are.

Anybody else put off by Rubio's supposedly poor conditioning. I mean if you are going to be entering the NBA wouldn't you want to be in the best shape of your life. I remember taking time off in HS sports and it took a few months to get back into shape. If I were a serious athlete I probably wouldn't be taking any time off.

What "poor" conditioning are you referring to?

He said he hadn't touched a ball in a month. Seems awfully long for a player to be out of the game. To be good you should practice everyday.

A lot of NBA players take a month off after the season before starting their summer work program. Tiger Woods usually takes a month off at the end of the Golf season before working on his game again. When you do something almost year round, you have to take a break once in a while or risk getting burned out.

just draft rubio already...I'm so damn excited to see him play for us I havent feeling the same way for years...I can see him dishing great passes for Thompson and Greene.. great stuff coming next season... at least we can expect some fun in the games, alley oops, easy dunks, etc

I'm assuming that workouts aside there is probably something similar with draft picks before the draft as there is with free agents before they can sign -- under no circumstances do you want to have a freak injury ruin your draft stock, and so you are told to take it easy. Throw in a nasty legal dispute with your old club, continent hopping and vacationing around the U.S. and it becomes possible.

It also by the way makes a good excuse if you happen to suck it up during the workout. ;)
