Just like Derrick Williams, I think White did play the 4 in college, because of his size,..but in the NBA his skillset is more for the 3 position. Good ball handler etc
Maybe he could even play at the 2, at times, or with Rudy, let him play the 3. Another big lineup possibility to explore

Maybe, of course what I see is a GM making moves for next season. Looking at some undervalued talent , deciding which young players to invest in. We have little hope of signing a top FA, so that leaves us a draft pick trades, and prospecting to get together a play off team. I just see the remaining games as pre-pre-season.
I think if White were to succeed in the NBA he'd have to be a 3.
Well, first he'd have to find ways to cope with his anxiety disorder. THEN he'd have to be a 3.

Because PDA is stockpiling talent, regardless of position. At some point you do have to stop and ask yourself why there are so many talented 6'8 power forwards available.
However, if we can rehab D. Williams and Royce White and flip them in a trade, then this is actually a smart strategy. But you have to execute on the trade part. This is what Houston and Portland have been doing for years. Accumulating talent, regardless of position.
White is a good passer, which is something this team needs desperately.
White hasn't even proved that he can overcome his anxiety disorder to play in the NBA at all. So I think wondering about fit is premature. He's a gamble to even play a game in the league. And at this point he's low risk, high reward. If he doesn't pan out then you part ways with nothing invested but a bit of time and a 10 day contract. If somehow things work out then you have a potentially very intriguing player. Williams was less of a gamble but the same sort of "buy low - hope for the best" strategy by PDA.
Of course that's giving him the credit of actually having a strategy. I'm not willing to say he doesn't, but if there is a master plan at work I have no idea what it is at the moment.
Do the Kings even have a roster spot for him? With Orlando Johnson the Kings have the max of 13 players on the active roster right?

He can play the 4. He is a Karl Malone and/or Barkley kind of PF. Malone is 1 inch taller and Barkley is 2 inches shorter.
At ISU he played the power point forward.
The upside is he may be more talented that any PF on the team. If it pans out you could consider trading some other PF's to get a #2 that can play. Downside is you lose a little bit of money on a 10 day contract.
Come on, cheer up. Times have been worse. Pretend like we are on the brink of greatness, it can't hurt.

Obviously I personally have no idea what kind of shape he's in. If the Kings do sign him then I hope he's in great shape.

What is a power point forward? I guess I don't understand how you run the point, while being a power forward at the same time? Are you saying he defends at power forward, but then is the lead ball handler on offense?

I have plenty of hope but this dicking around with mentally ill trouble makers and a variety of other moves makes me wonder if any success PDA has is just blind luck. Actually I think he said something similar so maybe I shouldn't complain. I love the trade for Gay and the combo of Gay and Boogie is a great start.
He confuses me as I see no direction. As of now he seems to be a collector of PFs.

White has had some time to weigh his future. He was the 16th best player in the draft one year so he's almost lottery level talent in theory. No I mean NO one knows what he has to offer at this point he's a total wild card. Its a great high risk LOW reward for this team. Its another opportunity to get a look at him and possible acquire more talent for this roster. I support this move.
Im sure they wouldn't consider him if they thought he was gonna end up being a distraction. Cousins is enough at this point.

Why, whatever do you mean? Royce White and DeMarcus Cousins? How could that possibly go wrong?

Sometimes to change the culture, you have to change the players. We all knew that there was going to be wholesale changes. Petrie and the Maloofs were constantly criticized for doing nothing. Now PDA is getting criticized for being too aggressive. You can't have it both ways. If you can end up acquiring a talented player like White, and resolve his problems, you've upgraded the team. The more talent you add, the more competition you create within the team, and out of that, can come excellence. You add a very talented hungry player, he's going to either push other players at his position to be better, or he's going to take their job. If it ends up being the latter, then that means he's better than who was there, and you've just upgraded your team.
What I don't understand is all this angst over a player getting a 10 day contract. Whats to worry about? If the player doesn't cut it, he's gone after the 10 days. If he does cut it, you sign him to another 10 day contract. Hell, sign him for the rest of the year. Were not going to the playoffs, so what difference does it make? Invite him to play on your summer league team, and the training camp. By that time you should have a good idea whether you want to continue a relationshp with that player. Maybe its just me, but this seems like much ado about nothing.

It's a waste of time. I am not asking to have it both ways as I was never critical of the inactivity of Petrie. You must have me confused with someone else. I want to see some direction. I have heard of a new culture. Getting a guy who has been in trouble in multiple situations doesn't impress me. Heck, he will never make it anyway. THAT'S what bothers me. It's not my money but I would react to anyone throwing away money and in this case, taking up the space another player might want. Where's that guy in the D League?

I've read nothing that suggests he was a distraction at Iowa St. He was well liked by his teammates and the coaching staff. I can see where his flying problem might be a distraction off the court, but I can't see it on the court. He wasn't a player that threw tantrums or got a lot of technicals. Quite the contrary. He was noted for his high BBIQ. There were times that he appeared to be playing PG from the PF position. Of course that was then, and this is now. I have no idea how good a shape he's in, or how hard he's worked on his game. For all I know, he didn't impress in his workout for the Kings and were all wasting valuable time discussing this.

First, I was speaking in general, and not about you in particular, with my comment about Petrie. Secondly, your making assumptions about a player that I doubt you've ever seen play, and know little about. Which probably puts you in the majority. However, you can't say he'll never make it any more than I can say that he will make it. Neither of us know, and neither do the Kings. Thus the point of working him out, and then perhaps signing him to a 10 day contract. Maybe I'm out in left field or something, but I just don't get all this wringing of hands over him. Were talking about a 10 day contract for peanuts. I have no idea how good a player White is right now, but he was top 10 talent, maybe top 5 talent coming out of the draft, and the only thing that dropped him down, was his fear of flying, not his talent. His multiple problems came in 2009, and to the best of my knowledge, he's been a good boy since. I certainly understand having some reservations, but I see nothing wrong with taking a look see.
Now, before anyone thinks I'm worshiping at the altar of Royce White, I should point out that I had some reservations about him prior to the draft. And one was that I wasn't sure what position he played. A lot of his game was suited to the SF position, and a lot of his game was suited to the PF position. His height is that of a SF, but his overall size is that of a PF. he does have a large wingspan and standing reach. The word tweener always leaped out at me. That may or may not be fair. Some players are so talented, none of that stuff matters and he may well be one of those players. I will say this, he was one of my favorite players to watch because of his passing ability.

Thanks. He looks very interesting to me. A guy hitting the boards for rebounds, who then turns around and pushes the ball up the floor himself, while having the pass at the front of his mind. I like it. Lets take a look
