Rondo Collection

Nice videos. But in that 24 assist game that was a MIGHTY generous statistician for that game. I think he got about 5 or 6 really questionable assists.

so he is a genius with a hot air balloon sized ego. Hopefully Karl's free flowing offense and coaching style will play to his strengths. If not he will be MopeyMcmoperson.

Unlike Boston of the last few years Rondo will have both outside shooters on the wings (Bellinelli, McLemore, maybe Casspi) and a pair of very high level scores in Gay and Cousins. And unlike Dallas he won't be burdened by a micromanaging coach.

That's not to say Rondo WILL succeed, but he's certainly got things in his favor on paper.

While I do like the insight into Rondo's character we see in that article, I think the "bad at people" part of it is overblown. It certainly does appear that he can be moody and difficult to please, that he's uneasy around authority figures especially if he thinks he's smarter than them, and that he likes to do his own thing on the court instead of taking orders from the sideline. But the implication that he's a bad teammate just because he's an atypically cerebral athlete? ESPN did a long piece about him prior to the 2012/2013 season (the season when he later tore his ACL and missed the playoffs) which painted a very different picture of his leadership behind the scenes. He was the one organizing practices in the off-season, checking in on Chris Wilcox while he recovered from heart surgery, encouraging Avery Bradley when he got sent down to the D-League, loaning Marquis Daniels his car. That doesn't sound to me like a bad teammate.

I think to a certain extent Rondo is just a private person who's cold with the media because he doesn't respect them and that results in a mis-perception (since public opinion about athletes tends to be shaped by the perceptions of the media for better or worse) that he's equally distant in his relations with everybody. I trust the guys in the lockerroom. Rudy likes him, DeMarcus seems to like him too. George Karl has handled difficult personalities before. We'll see what happens, but there's plenty of reason to be optimistic about the fit I think.

Reading the article, he's basically Boogie's twin. Hope they can all get along when stuff gets tough and they have on court disagreements. Its all about managing egos.
