Hope this works out
10 million dollars isn't a low risk. We did this in hopes that he plays well and re-signs like Rudy did.
Another "Glass half full" take on this is that at least Rudy believes in this team enough to recruit a friend here. If he felt the dumpster fire would continue he'd keep anyone he cared about away.

I'm sure the Lakers would go after him at this point, but as a pass first PG do you want to play with Cuz, Rudy, WCS(lob threat), Ben, Belli, Collison or old Kobe a few unproven rooks and a bunch of scrubs?it's 9.5 million I believe. I'm not looking at money here, Rondo came here strictly to show the league he can still play and no other team wanted to pay him 9 million so here he is.
Yes, it's low risk in the sense that it's one year. That also makes it a good signing. My point is that we paid him $10 million with more expectations than turning his career around and leaving after a year. A great signing means he plays very well and signs an extension. It absolutely is low risk. If it doesn't work out, they're out of it immediately. If it does work out, they likely have a great chance to re-sign him simply because things went so well and he's got connections on the team.
Worst case scenario is that it works out exceptionally well but he decides to leave. In that case, the Kings lost no assets to acquire him and will have even more $$ to work with next off-season but with an improved image around the league.
Seriously, what is the downside?
Well we should get a few more national tv games now, thats for sure.

Which is also potentially big, if it works out,....and he needs convincing to stay
Change of environment and playing with one of his best friends... Cousins respects him and Karl with revive his career.
Gary Payton 2.0
Let's go Kings
i said this in the free agency thread but this is what a good team needs to do to win over free agents. Have the star and coach talk to them along with the FO and owner. Would have been nice to have DMC help out but since Rudy and Rondo are friends I can see why he helped out so muchAm wondering what they ate that lasted 3 hours

Rudy Gay and Rajon Rondo had dinner in Sac for over 3 hours last night. Rondo met with Kings today, had 30 min private call w/ George Karl
Downside 1: Rondo continue to play like he played last year (also a contract year), get to the bench and destroys the already bad team chemistry, the defense of him and Belinelli together is horrific and the team doesn't even sniffs the playoffs, Cousins wants out and the Kings can't even tank because they have no control on their picks.
Downside 2: Rondo plays well, but not good enough to make the playoffs, he end the season by living and the Kings struggle to ink guys on a summer in which almost every NBA team has cap space due to the rising cap. Kings can't build through the draft because, again, they have no control on their draft picks.

Agreed that the potential is there for more fireworks amongst the players and coach. But if Rondo himself is a problem, the 1-year deal makes it very easy to fix. Not only do you not re-sign him, but you have the option of asking him to leave as the Mavs just did and it doesn't cost you anything beyond this season.
Regarding the draft pick situation which you mentioned in both scenarios, it is independent of the Rondo signing. The Kings were already in that boat before they signed him. And they didn't need to make that trade in order to acquire him. They made that move, we all believe, because they were after more expensive FA's in Matthews and Ellis.
So, again, the only downside is that Rondo does something similar to what he did in Dallas. But the team is in a position to quickly do something about it hence why this is a low risk move.
One important note is how unified the entire pitch to Rondo was. Rudy doing work as Rondo's close friend, George Karl talking to him on the phone, then Vlade/Bratz closing the deal in the meeting today.
With all of the rumors of how dysfunctional the Kings are, its nice to see the organization come together to get this done.

I kinda agree it's a low(ish) risk move...
Just giving the main concerns I've heard, if you want to hear the negative view on this signing just go to ESPN and click on the video on the side where Amin Elhassen analyze the trade...
Word to the wise: listening/watching/reading BSPN is not good for your health if you're a Kings fan. And yes, I said BS..PN. There's a good reason they've had that nickname for a lot of years.
That's a REAL downside... or down slide. *rim shots*Downside 3: The San Andreas fault finally gives way and all of California sinks into the Pacific.
Gotta admit I'm intrigued with how it will work, I think we probably made the best with what we had once Wes picked the Mavs. I hope DC adjusts to his role on the bench and doesn't lose his drive. Looking forward to see what we do with the rest of the cap space or with Ray in a trade.
