Ron Artest's new name

#1
The latest from the Ron-Ron show: he's decided to change his name. OK, so technically he wants to go by his middle name of William. The thinking? Since Ron Artest is back to getting so much negative media coverage, maybe going by Bill - as he requested to be called - could give him a fresh start. Never a dull moment... - Sam Amick

This is from Amick's Bee blog on july 12th. Ron is a nutty guy:D

He could not come up with anything better than William? I am truly dissapointed.
What do you mean he couldn't come up with anything better than William? It's his middle name. It's not like he came up with a random new name to use. He's deciding to go with the middle name that his parents gave him.

Still, I think Gunther would have been better.

Bill Clinton was born William Jefferson Blythe III, but at age 14 changed his name to William Jefferson Clinton. It didn't matter to his mom and brother who continued to call him what they always did - Bubba.

Bubba Artest!:D

I don't intend to speak to how much "crap" Miller is or is not deserving of catching, but I find it fascinating that your notion of defending Artest consists of a shot at Miller.

idiocy is not an excuse in brads case, but what he did only affects him alone to us it opens an opportunity of starting hawes for five games and seeing what we have,

Brad failing his drug test or what not hurts him career wise, but as a franchise speeds up our rebuilding by giving hawes a shot, maybe this is a wake up call for brad too

as for artest, his antics such as this though funny can sometimes be a distraction(edit...IS A distraction), what he said before is a distraction to the fanbase (i myself find it rather bothersome each day i find a topic like ARtest stays, Artest wants to opt, Artest stays, ARtest regrets, Artest new name, Artest on this show and what not) it strays away from the idea that this is THE KINGS not sacramento Artests... changing his name is quite a hassle to his family too i bet: a guy can be called John McHairy and be a model citizen and what not, like i said He can call himself LebRON Artest for all i care but that doesnt mean he will change...

brad was due to mess up some time in his career and this was a convinient time he just messed up under a coach who has curfews...what and how theus will react to this is an interesting question...

I think "Billy" can do, and will, do anything he perceives will help his case. Not necessarily a lot of thought behind it but maybe he just likes us to talk about him. Or maybe Billy is pushing to get a spot of the Blue Collar Comedy Team? Billy the Basketball Guy?? :p

I don't know.

I can tell you the name change thing is in fun, dont look to far into it. I've been trying to steer our "visits" into a less serious mode, trying to have some fun with the possibly limited time there is left for the Ron shows.

I've already said before, I'm obviously biased, but sometimes all the "crazy", "insane", and "psycho" comments are a little low for this board. I've always understood this board to be a place where personal attacks on a King aren't tolerated, but perhaps its only on a King that most people like, the rest are fair game.

One thing I've learned from "quality time" with Ron.....he's a person.

Yes, a strange, unique, maddening, weird, and many times frustrating person....but a person nonetheless. Just a guy who is trying very hard to clean up his image.

Yes, he fails at times. Yes, the see-saw battles and constant media attention can get weird, but the heart is usually in the right place. We don't all have the comfort of anonymity, and love him or hate him: he sure as heck puts himself out there, and we get to sit back and watch.

I am also sympathetic to Kings fans who believe he is a distraction because of this, and want him gone. I think every player is open to criticism, its the price they pay for making tons of money.

I just shake my head at some of the anonymous personal shots, most of which are unfounded, that he and no doubt his kids read about at times.

Yes, he could do better at controlling them himself. But he wants to have fun, and I think he has been successful (at least locally) at changing his image from the "dark, brooding, violent thug" of Detroit days. What has he changed it to? I don't know, but I'm pretty sure its a kinder, gentler, but still very frustrating version.

To each his own, I just wish the "crazy" and "insane" stuff would be controlled more. Again, I'm pretty sure that's always been a rule here, but I could be way off. I browse other websites with MUCH worse verbiage, that's for sure. KF has just always been the gold standard (not the lame gold that sucks on jerseys, by the way.)

Dave...

Yes, TO YOU Ron Artest is a person. TO US, the average fans, he's #93, the TruWarier, Ron Artest, etc.

There is a real and significant difference.

Where were you when it was Kenny Thomas being assailed? Or even Chris Webber? SAR? Any other player who has disappointed the fan base?

Sorry, Dave, but while I hear what you're saying, I think the comments posted on this board are truly reflective of what a LOT of Kings fans now feel about the PLAYER named Ron Artest. That's where our concerns lie.

Yes, some of them may be over the edge, or at least awfully close to it, but the moderators here, including myself, are trying their best to allow our members to vent their ongoing frustrations with the never-ending drama that surrounds Artest.

If you saw some of the comments we DON'T allow to remain on the board, you might be in a better position to understand.

We try very hard to keep the personal comments out of it but Ron himself has made it all very hard to keep separate. But, just like Ron, we're only human too, and most of us have loved the Sacramento Kings for a long time. He's a professional athlete who is currently wearing the uniform of the Kings. He's making a gazillion dollars to play a game while wearing that uniform. He's embarrassed us, he's disappointed us and he's caused us a lot of uncertainly and angst.

By us, of course, I mean the average Kings fan.

Basically, Ron needs to remember that we don't know him as a person, or a parent, or a caring individual who goes overseas and is touched by what he sees in the impoverished villages. We know him as RON ARTEST- NBA PLAYER. And that's the person we aren't very happy with.

As far as he and his kids reading anonymous personal shots on this website, that's on him. One of the first things a new player should be warned about is reading message boards. Ours is actually one of the most civilized. I could name - but you already know - at least one or two others that would absolutely floor him.

He wants to have fun? Fine. So do we. And we want to watch our team grow while being entertained. It's OUR hard-earned money that pays his salary and allows him to have a significantly better life than any of us will most likely ever be privilege to. Is it too much to ask in return that he NOT always be involved in some kind of public drama?

I've said it before under different circumstances and I'll say it again, this time for Ron's benefit:

Suck it up, shut up and play. Let your game speak for you. QUIT calling ESPN. THINK before you decide to send that text message or make that phone call. Let your actions speak INSTEAD of your words.

The fans here in Sacramento gave you a clean slate. It was all in your hands. We paid our money, we sat down and we watched the show. Unfortunately, all the melodrama that seems to follow you has made it very difficult to enjoy the show. When the distractions become more important than the show itself, something has to be done.
