USA Today - "Another Detroit Pistons fan is suing the Indiana Pacers , claiming he was beaten during the infamous 2004 brawl between players and fans in the stands of The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Michael Ryan, of Clarkston, Mich., filed a lawsuit last week in U.S. District Court in Detroit against the Pacers and players Ron Artest and Stephen Jackson. Ryan alleges the two players assaulted him and the Pacers were negligent in signing Artest and allowing him to play given his "history of violence, repetitive conduct, and unfitness as a professional basketball player," The Detroit News reported Wednesday.

Ryan claims that when a fan threw a plastic cup of beer at Artest late in the Nov. 19, 2004, game, Artest mistakenly believed Ryan threw it. He alleges that the former Pacers forward charged into the stands and attacked him, soon joined by Jackson.

The lawsuit is the latest in a series of civil suits stemming from the brawl."

A little late Huh?

This is probably wrong, but I thought that in civil cases, a lawsuit had to be filed within 12 months of the incident. I'm not a lawyer though.....anyone have an answer?

Uh, he has to claim some sort of long term damage to get anything out of this. Maybe humiliation that affected him some how? But, otherwise, this dude wasting his time and Artest's.

In Cali it's 24 months but I'm not sure about Michigan.....probably the same.

Anyway, who cares.

I was expecting that, clearly it was Green who threw the cup but Artest and Jackson did beat up that little guy who was standing one level lower than where Green was.

Dont know what the implications would be and how it would be settled but I am expecting that some lawyer is gonna make some good chunk of money, whether it is the pacers / Artest lawyer or not is a question :)

In Michigan the personal injury SOL is 3 years, and I assume this is an assault and battery personal injury claim, along wiht all the normal negligence B.S. against the Pacers, Pistons, NBA, United States, and universe in general.
