Oh he's definitely out there and not in a way that normally appeals to me, when I first saw him I was expecting to be rolling on the floor laughing at the guy.

Tommy Lee is a jerk. Some of his comments were beyond bizarre. This show might not even last the season. He looked drunk or stoned or perhaps both...made Paula look sober and straight by comparison.

I still like Storm, regardless of the "broadway Cats" comment. I disliked most of the performances because sometimes a melody should remain a melody. Not every song has to be rewritten to be redone. I got really tired of counter-melodies on classic songs, especially when the person was unable to hold pitch from one moment to the next.

This is nowhere near as good as American Idol, IMHO, and - compared to INXS - this is just embarrassing. I honestly don't know if I'll be able to stomach watching it for much longer.

Another pet peeve? The women think they need to be "in your face" to Supernova? I just don't think that's the way to win them over. If you're so convinced you've got talent, SHOW IT. Quit griping about their criticisms when you don't bring it.

I love Surrender and hated the way Storm did it. Messed up the lyrics and then changed them voluntarily to something unnecessarily crass (at least in the context of the song and with the way she was holding the mic stand).

That said she's still in my top 5 or 6 easily because most of these cats can't sing at all or have zero stage presence. Its horrible.

I loved the first season but this just seems like a total rehash, they should have gone with all new songs for starters.

I think a lot of the contestants have a misconstrued view of what a "Rockstar" is and certainly what the members of this band want for a lead singer. The show seems almost like they are auditioning a solo artist, rather than a leadsinger to a band comprised of already established musicians with an already established genre of music. Most of the stuff today was just impersonation of pop-rock songs that I could never see this contemplation of Supernova bandmembers doing. Not to mention that most of these performances are coming off as "trying to hard."

Oh and totally agree VF about the women who feel the need to super proud-girl power to overcome the fact that they are a woman. Just let your talent speak for itself.

For whatever its worth, my bottom 3
The Isalandic guy
Ryan Starr
Jill--the short one with the blonde hair who swore she wasn't doing a Courtney Love impersonation.

Honorable mention: the guy who wiggles and can't stand still on stage.

Uh oh. I wasn't watching; I was doing something for work and just listening. I didn't notice the lyric mess-up and I didn't see the mic stand incident...

Gracie Slick was the front for one of the greatest ever rock bands for years and I never saw her do anything crass or demeaning (and that includes several in-person concerts at Winterland back in the day). If Storm feels she has to be crude or vulgar to win, then she has just LOST my support.

That is my problem with Storm, she's way over sexualized (I do think she's hot, but that's not what I look for in a performance). She is even more over the top from what I've seen of her revue act in town. Tonight she had the mic stand between her legs in an attempt to rival Tommy Lee for half the song, if you know what I'm saying. Also she changed the lyric from "mom and dad were rolling on the couch" to "mom and dad were DOING IT ON THE COUCH" (emphasis hers). There really is no point to emphasize that lyric or make it so overtly sexual. And who really wants that image in their minds? The part that kills me is she actually has the chops to front a band like Supernova and doesn't need to rely on the sex. I probably sound like a prude now, but I just wasn't digging it.

I understand completely. I probably should actually watch the show and not just listen as I sometimes hear the lyrics I know and not the lyrics they sing, if you know what I mean. I do like her voice; but if she's thinking it's just about prostituting herself to the band to get the gig, I think she's gonna be in for a rude awakening.

Things may change but Rockstar is still a show I actually sit down and watch rather than compute or play video games through. Unfortunately most of the performances tonight weren't worth it let alone dissecting or rewatching.

I liked Dilana most of all tonight.

#39
Again I found the show pretty entertaining, actually a little more so then others, but I like this genre almost as much as country music. Still think a lot of them are below par but tonight I heard a few good ones.

As far as tonights roundup, just going to name my top M/F and then bottom 3.

Lukas was my #1 M
Dilana was my #1 F

Bottom 3
Zayra
Jill
Ryan

BW that's pretty much exactly how I saw it. The difference between Ryan and the rest of the bottom of the barrel tonight was pretty slim (Chris, Phil, Dana) but Zayra and Jill were so far beyond bad. Zayra has no talent and needs to go but I wouldn't mind if she snuck by for another week or two for laughs.

Chris got the boot after a very good acoustic version of Tonic.

Jill saved herself tonight, she was awesome. Still don't know why they kept Zayra around. She did the same horrible song again and was just as bad.

I think the fact the voters put Chris in the final 3 two weeks in a row sealed the deal on him.

Zayra should have gone home, Chris actually proved he had some talent even if I think doing Tonic well doesn't prove much. But he blew Phil away. Maybe he should have fought to get that song because if he had done it last night he would have never been in the bottom 3.

At least I know next week we'll have something funny from Zayra.

Okay digging this up because well...

What the HELL was that? Possibly the worst hour I have spent in years. I am actually upset I wasted an hour. Is this Karaoke hour? WOW they all sucked! I think there is a reason on AI they say unless you can do a modern hit better don't even try it.

What is with Tommy's sexual comments for every female?

The one person they bagged on, Jill... I thought was and may be the best. Not for a SuperNova type band but I have said it to my wife every week. She has that Poe, Alanas feel. I absolutely love her sound but this music is not for her.

Will not waste time on this show again.. BYE BYE SN,

They should all get voted out

My first thought is I want my hour back...

I'm really getting tired of the stuff with Tommy Lee, although none of us should be surprised. I thought the glimpse of Dave Navarro looking like he was falling asleep on his arm was priceless and pretty much summed up the whole night.

I missed Rescue Me to watch tonight. I won't make that mistake again. Luckily, FX shows Rescue Me several times during the week.

It made my stomach hurt. There were a couple of half-way decent performances, I guess, but they were totally overshadowed by mediocrity and downright pathos.

I didn't think it was that bad... I'd still rather watch this than American Idol. But there are two contestants that have been head and shoulders above everyone else for the run of the show now (and incidentally they may have two of the worst singing voices on the show). There are another 3 or 4 beneath them that are middle of the road and then the rest are pretty bad.

I liked how they had a lot fewer repititions of last season's music tonight (only 2). I do find it rather silly that only about half of the songs are really "rock" songs and then the contestants get criticized for not rocking hard enough. I think the hardest rocking song tonight was a Beatles song for cryin out loud.

A Beatle song about Charles Manson...

I hated the ballads. Absolutely hated them. I think they set people up by making them sing them.

The girl with the spike coming out of her chin needs to go. She's scarier than Courtney Love and that's saying something...

The thing that kills me is that the newer music they play is the stuff all the metal guys blame for ending their careers in the 90s. Give me some real rock already. I'm partial to 50s rock and roll and 70s punk but I'll take the crap Gilby and Tommy played over most of the songs we're getting so far.

I was checking this thread because I watched some of the INXS show and enjoyed it. I was wondering if this incarnation was worth watching. Apparently not.

Not much of a loss I suppose, considering the "supergroup" they're assembling is composed of the lesser talented members of bands I didn't like that much to begin with.

This jumped out at me though. Helter Skelter (I assume that's the song being referred to here) was NOT written about Charles Manson in any way, shape or form.

The song was just Paul's attempt to write something louder, harder and noisier than the Who. Manson simply heard the song and invented meanings for it that were never intended, warping the song to fit with his own twisted views on a "race war" that was supposedly coming.

Yup it was Helter Skelter and it was a horrible performance.

I am still mad about this show last night. How do they put these hacks up there to perform STP & Nirvana? Then the "judges" say great job. I am sitting there like WHAT?

I guess my age is showing. When the whole Manson thing was going on, it was rumored time and time again that Manson had a connection to the Beatles. The "proof" was always the "writing on the wall," which meant Manson was sending a message to the Beatles.

I forget that virtually everyone here is younger than I and won't necessarily get my obscure references sometimes.

The rolling eyes emoticon was supposed to be my indication of the ridiculous comment. Sorry if I misled anyone...

Manson belived that the Beatles were angles speaking to him through their music. He interpeted the songs Pigs and Helter Skelter as orders to start a race war and then step in as a savior. The Beatles wrote the song a few years before the Sharon Tate and Labianco family murders. Buts as far as any "connection" to the Beatles goes no deal. Just your basic instutionalized, schizo on mescalin and LSD.

For good reads on the subject check out "Helter Skelter" and "The Family."
For good music turn off Super Nova and lay a nice copy of the White Album on your turn table.

I'm more of a 50s music person that a 60s music person and consequently not really a fan of the Beatles, but I do still listen to a lot of music on the turntable.

I don't watch this show to hear good music, that's for sure.

I probably should have emphasized the word "Rumor" in talking about all the crap that was whispered - especially in San Francisco and areas south - about the Beatles and Charles Manson.

And Celt wins the thread.

:D

I didn't even watch the "vote off" show this week. Somehow, I just couldn't work up enough interest to change the channel from some show on History Channel I've seen about three times.
