Sacramento Bee - Charles Barkley reported that the Kings and Indiana Pacers have renewed discussions about a swap involving Peja Stojakovic and Ron Artest.

"Ask Geoff," Kings co-owner Joe Maloof said as he hurried toward his office, knowing that Petrie is as frozen-lipped as a statue.

Pressed about possible personnel moves the other day, Petrie replied tersely, "There are no trades in the works."

NOTE: This is REALLY misleading, IMHO. The little blurb above notwithstanding, the link leads - tortuously - to Ailene Voisin's article which is already being discussed.

I would repeat this endlessly if that trade were to ever go down.

We'll see. This has been rumored before obviously, but it seems to have been something that made more sense to the fans and media than it did to the respective GM personalities. Never was clear the first time whether it was real or not, and if it was whether Bird shot it down becuase of Artest-love or Petrie out of Peja-love.

For it to have any chance now I would say that:

1) it would have had to have been Petrie who shot it down the first time, and who has now reconsidered; and
2) the Pacers would have to be thinking they really miss Regie's outside shooting, and general game (as Peja's game has always resemebled Reggie's as much as any SF); and
3) that the Pacers think Granger can be their tough guy SF of the future

I would obviously love to see it -- a Bonzi/Artest OG/SF pairing would be as tough and nasty as any pair in the league. Wouldn't solve all our problems by any stretch (dirty little secret this year BTW, Artest is reboundng like Peja!) but we'd have a fun and feisty core paving the way for the followup Miller/SAR for KG trade...oh, er...getting ahead of myself. ;)

Last year I would have been 100 percent in support. But now, my main concern is the chemistry of this team. Would Ron Artest improve the chemistry. Considering:

He is an East Coast guy
The mixture of Bonzi and Artest
His absolute love of Larry Bird and the Indiana Pacers

oooo...don't tease us!

KG
Thomas/Skinner
Artest
Wells
Bibby

KG is enough of a player all by himself to own down the PF/C position. would like to get another big to complement him, but a core of KG, Artest, Wells, and Bibby is just plain scary! all four of those guys are intense comeptitors (though we've seen less of mike's competitive streak this season)...it'd be tough to lose.

makes me sad cuz i know it'll never happen...

this is really confusing with 2 threads discussing exact same thing...

i said in the other thread, brick, that in pacerland it seems to be the consensus that if indeed the deal did get broached it was the maloofs that put the kabosh on it before...that petrie wouldve done it but they didnt want to ship a fan favorite for the volatile artest....especially with arena issues...

now that being said, i think theres only one way in hell the pacers would go for it now....

and if that is everything that weve read and seen is a complete ruse...that they dont trust ron one bit and want to get rid of him and will get rid of him as soon as they possibly can...

which there really is nothing at all to lead us to believe that....but i guess we have to allow for that possibility....

and if thats the case, i still have a hard time believing that this is the best deal....pejas stock has really dropped...plus...and most importantly....peja will be a free agent at the end of the season....and theres a decent chance he would leave...but even if he didnt, he would most likely command quite a bit of money....and the pacers have major payroll issues...

the only way i could see it happening would be if the pacers did want to rid themselves of artest, and the kings would include garcia...and based on what im seeing out of the pacers so far, they might include harrison in the deal...which the kings would probably like....quite honestly, im totally befuddled with the harrison situation, so nothing would surprise me on that front...

Chemistry hasn't won a title for this team before.
Who cares if he's an East Coast guy? It makes no difference where he's from. If he loves the Pacers and Bird so much and then they trade him then that should make him want to prove something to them.

This would be great, but there is no way. The Pacers are not getting rid of their second best player for a glorified role player who hasn't been right for nearly two years! I'd love for it to happen, but I just I just don't see it!
... But it sure would be nice?

It would almost scare me if this happened. Even given the off-court troubles, how could the Pacers really be so down on Artest that they would trade him for Peja? It doesn't make sense to me. Right now their production is about the same on offense, only Artest is one of the top 3 or 4 defenders in the league. If it were to happen, I'd really have to wonder just how much of a disruption he is to a team. If this is actually true, and I have my doubts, it must be because Bird thinks that the Kings aren't getting the most out of Peja and he thinks the Pacers can utilize his talents.

That said, Artest is a Rick Adelman dream player -- one of those guys who thrive without a coach in their face and always being treated with respect. A guy who doesn't need motivation -- he usually gives a top effrt. He's a good shooter, a good passer, a good slasher.

I'd make the trade in a second, but something really isn't adding up.

i agree...

there are zero issues regarding artest in indy right now...as far as we know...

you all are all to aware of all the things swirling around peja and the kings tough start...

so it would seem to figure that maybe petrie rang larry up and asked about the deal that maybe he had to say no to before last season...it makes sense....the arena issues seem to be almost dead....and peja isnt the poster child he was a year ago...and the kings need to do something...

however, my gut tells me bird responded with, sorry no can do now...we might be interested in a trade for peja involving stephen jackson though...

based on everything thats happening with indy and sac, that sort of conversation makes sense....

and if larry was interested in trading artest for peja, then something is majorly up....cause u dont trade an all nba and DPOY for an expiring contract that is slumping and whom u would most likely lose at the end of the season...

so my guess is petrie asked...and bird probably said , sorry, no thanks...

and that would indeed satisfy the 'being discussed' comment...

if even any of this rumor is indeed true...

Hey I would do it in a Flash! I'm all for it. Hopefully Petrie can somehow pull it off. Larry loves Peja...reminds him a lot of himself. I think the trade could go down. I think it would benefit both clubs in different ways. For us we would be much better off. For the Pacers they would get a guy that (as long as he is open) can put up 3's all over the place and burry 25 points a game. Artest will give us more Defense and having Wells and Shareef will really put our team back on the map, I think. I hope it happens!!!!!

Dont forget, Peja would have to be packaged with someone else or something added to get Ron. Who or what would that be? Who else would the pacers need?

Actually trade works straight up(I just checked). I'm wondering which side is the one that won't pull the trigger?? If it's the Kings then they should let Petrie go and just make the damn trade. I don't think we could no longer be called a soft team and immediatley improves our overall team defense.

hey guys, this is my first post here but what about this?

trade peja and skinner (not playing much anyway) for artest and pollard (knows the system, use to play for us and can rebound)
THEN
trade KT, hart and K mart for lenard (shooter, last year of contract) and watson (defensive pointguard -has been useful off the bench for memphis and contract is just as long as Kt's)

then we have a starting line up of:
bibby wells artest SAR miller

off the bench:
Watson, lenard, ciso, Pollard

Peja for Artest is intriguing and would make the starting unit better ... but the bench is STILL the issue.

I'd rather trade Peja for 3 SOLID roleplayers than for one stud and a scrub.

That's just me.

We've already traded for depth (and that worked out wonderfully). We need to consolodate depth, combine two or three of our bench guys, for a solid contributor.
