Respect: How can the Kings get some?

#1
Here's my question for the forum:

The Kings are clearly not respected by the officials or the coaches in the league. So what do the Kings need to do to get some much deserved respect? They have been near the top of their division for a number of years, they have won a lot of playoff games, they have not won a championship (but that is not required for respect, look at the Suns or the T-Wolves). Is it because they play in a small market? I often wonder if other smaller market teams like the Spurs would get any respect if they did not win rings... Should the Kings just give up and start their own league to play in with the rest of the dis-respected teams? So what do you think? What can the Kings do to earn the respect they deserve?

Ditto ...

Maybe they should stop bitching and complaining over every call that doesn't meet their expectations.
what kgrichwine said ....

but, let me add .... it's not just the King's .... ALL the other teams in the NBA do their fair share of complaining, as well.

Q. How can the Kings get respect?

A. Shut up and play.

They can probably do a few other things, but they need to start with that one; if you can't shut up and play, you have no business complaining about a lack of respect.

EDIT - And, for the record, with regard to the original post, I dont' think that any active coach in the NBA openly disrespects the Kings.

If no active coach disrespects the team, how can an All-Star snub be explained? Rashard Lewis over Chris Webber?!? Please.

like many of you have already stated, i am sick and tired of watching our team ***** and moan over calls that do not go their way. referees are going to make mistakes. sometimes they are in your favor, sometimes they are not.

please guys, just shut up and play. the only way to get some respect is to go out there and take it. win the whole damn thing, and you will be respected.

First off, there were four Kings players that likely all got fairly significant numbers of votes. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to hear that the for kings were all in the top 6 or seven of players that didn't quite make it. They all got votes, and they split the ticket.

But much more fundamentally the two things you discuss are (nearly) completely unrelated. One is a comparison of individual players to other individual players. Is it a disrespect of America to say that Darius Songaila (non-american) is a better basketball player than me (american)?

A: No.

maybe brad would get more respect if he stopped pounting over every little damn thing. to get the guy back, just do what he's doing to you becuase it isn't getting called, DO IT BACK!

pretty much just shut up and play.

That's not what I am saying. Look at Webber's and Rashard Lewis's numbers. Webber is far superior.

its not just the kings that whine all teams the whine...and every team in the league would have whined if they were victims of a no call like that last night...EVEN the almighty Suns...yes im still pretty pissed

but IMO the only people that get respect are the players on the teams with the best records...::shrugs:: period

we can all sit here and say shut up and play....cuz we aren't the ones playing the game...and you know if you were constantly getting the calls or the non calls like they were it would be pretty darn hard not to complain

What everyone else also has said. As I said in a different thread, its one think for us fans to complain, but for the players to it adds a whole different element. It is disheartening to me to hear a guy like Matt Barnes say that he feels like he is back on the Clippers with lack of respect that the Kings receive. But, for whatever reason, refs call games certain ways. They miss calls. Intentionally? Who knows. I can't and will not say for sure. I can ***** and moan with the best of them about it, but its nothing for certain. Really, its about not allowing them to have that opportunity to change a game that way. Its about going out and taking your frustration and anger on your opponent with some good basketball play.

Whets done is done and no matter how much I or anyone else would like to sit and curse out the whole NBA some more, nothing is going to change. The Kings and the Suns aren't going to get called up to play 5 more min of basketball. The Kings have a game tomorrow, its what they and we all need to focus on. If they really want to do something about this lack of respect, then winning tomorrow in a convincing fashion would be a start.

and another thing....to the Kings credit....i think they were most pissed cuz the refs didn't look at the play or AT LEAST huddle...i think thats where they felt they got smacked in the face...i think they wouldn't of been AS pissed if the refs at least talked it over instead of running off the floor like the ARCO crowd was gonna go all "The Palace at Auburn Hills" on them

i think all players and all teams gripe about calls. some stop when the game is over, some stop when the microphone comes out, etc. the sooner the person stops, the more respect they get.

i also noticed there is a way to complain that doesn't look as bad. that i'm about to cry look that bill lambier had right after he knocked somebody to the ground is not the way to get respect. somebody who keeps their head and says (for instance) "you blew the call, he was pulling on my shirt over here" is more likely to get the ref to pay attention for that in the future.
