Resign Bjax?

Did you read the article in the Bee. He stated he wanted to come back here and end his career here and then maybe find a seat on the bench as a coach. His future goal is to become an NBA coach. He apparently expressed this opinon to Petrie some time ago. And Wa LA, here he is.

Rather than speculate what you think he wants to do, why don't you read what he said he wants to do?

DING DING DING, we have a winner.

Bobby's future with Sac is on the coaching staff. I imagine they will let him play as a mentor and on court/in locker room coach for a bit and then boom, he will be on the staff. I should admit to a little wishful thinking here as I would absolutely love for this to happen.

It is so fun that we get to talk about BJAX again. I am definitely buying his jersey this season, no matter how stupid they look.

Sure the Bee may say that, but what I am refering to is an interview he had on fox 40. I thought it was on news 10 but it was on fox. He was asked about the trade and he said "would I like to be in houston on a playoff contender and maybe an nba championship quailty team, yes of course. but everyone would like that... when asked about the rebuilding mode, "he said its tough, you always wanna win". He also did say he likes it here in sacramento.

So me thinking he might go to a contender after this year is not pure speculation.

It might not be pure speculation but you're putting more emphasis on a very small bit of that interview. He also said he was VERY GLAD to be back in Sacramento, and further expanded that in the interview with the Bee. The snippet you refer to was on Ch. 10 first with Bryan May speaking with Bobby in his (Bobby's) living room in Granite Bay.

Any player would love to be on a contending team but Bobby Jackson has a LOT of ties to the Sacramento community. You thinking he'll go to a contender is pretty much pure speculation - and unsubstantiated speculation at that. The front office isn't going to trade away the one fan favorite we've actually got back; especially when he comes right out and says he'll resign with us for the veteran minimum and he wants to explore coaching by working his way up through the ranks once his playing days are over.

All I am saying is i think at this point in his career he would like to play for a ring. I know he likes the kings and the organization and may end up finishing his career here and begin a new one in coaching. It's just a lot of times when players wind down their career they will try to go to championship contenders and not rebuilding teams.

??? I guess I'm missing the whole point here or something. You keep saying you think Bobby would like to play for a ring. I'm saying that if you read the article in its entirety you'll see that he's saying he'll be happy to finish his career with the Kings for a variety of reasons and then hopefully pursue coaching.

You're generalizing about "players winding down their career." Bobby isn't a generalization; he's Bobby Jackson and I think he's addressed the issue.

Of course he would still like to play for a ring. All I'm saying is that from what I've read and heard he's pretty content with the realization that most likely will not happen.

:)

I too am glad to have BJax back in the Kings fold. I'll always remember a comment from Jerry Reynolds that Bobby "... was the smallest power forward in the league". That was how he played, fearless and instant energy, not backing down from anyone the plunking in key shots. Leadership he can provide can be both from experience and by example. The Kings'll need that this year. Welcome Bobby!! :D

If in fact, Jackson is happy. We just made a sick pickup. Happiness can reverse aging(live longer), it can make you heal faster(placebo effect), and will make you a more responsible person(opposite of depression). And if he is not depressed about not winning a championship, more power to him. I can name a handful of NBA players who would give 5 million dollars for a chance on a winning team. In reality, I think his desire for a championship is still kicking around, but his desire for a full payday is also kicking around. If bobby performs, he might be offered that extention, but i doubt it will be for the full midlevel. I don't see him fitting in after we draft a PG next year. Our mystery lottery pick PG will cost enough to cap our PG spending to minumum contracts. If he wants to stay it will be on his own accord, nothing we can do, other than offer a slightly raised minumum contract.

I didn't see or read the interview, but in the earlier post discussing Bobby's desire to play 2 more years at the minimum, I took that to mean a minimum of two years, not at the veteran's minimum salary. Am I missing something, or are we all being overly hopeful?
