Repossessed car auctions?

I have heard about them, but they sound way too good to be true. I mean, they're talking about repossessed cars from 500 dollars. I was wondering if anybody here knew anything about them? I am currently trying to look for a very cheap car, but there's got to be a catch to this.

I got my first car at an auction: an '81 Coupe for four hundred dollars. The car was an eyesore, but it was indestructible.

Unfortunately, it beat trees, but not rust; it was scrap in a little less than two years.

My dad used to buy a lot of used police vehicles for pennies on the dollar. Might have better luck with that route. He drove one Caprice Classic for over 10 years.
