Report: Owens leaves after verbal spat with Reid

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Terrell Owens exchanged words with head coach Andy Reid at a team meeting Wednesday and was asked to leave, according to news reports.

Owens then got his belongings and cleared out of Eagles training camp at Lehigh University, according to two television reports. He was expected to return to his home in Atlanta, ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reports.

Earlier Wednesday, he had missed practice for the fifth time in six days because of a left groin injury.

Owens worked out with the team's assistant trainer for about 20 minutes on a separate playing field from his teammates, catching balls from a machine and doing some light running. He did not speak to reporters or acknowledge the fans who chanted his name.

The All-Pro receiver sat out practices last Friday and Saturday. He returned Sunday for both the morning and afternoon sessions, but hasn't practiced since.
Owens is unhappy the Eagles have refused to redo his contract as he enters the second season of a seven-year, $48.97 million deal.

Last season, Owens had 77 receptions for 1,200 yards and a franchise-record 14 touchdowns receptions before severely injuring his ankle late in the season. He missed the final two regular-season games and the first two playoff games before returning for the Super Bowl, in which he had nine receptions for 122 yards.

When asked about Owens leaving camp, his agent Drew Rosenhaus said it was a matter between Owens and Andy Reid. Rosenhaus declined to talk about it further.

No T.O. in the news for a week ... can't have that happening.

This guy is such a fool. He needs to be cut, and nobody should sign him.
I would welcome T.O. to the Chargers with open arms and open pockets. I think he'd like it out here on the Westside.

I hope that they fine him and don't give in. Don't trade him just let him sit out and fine him everygame.

Suspend him for not playing hard, This greedy crap has to stop. I can understand if your in the last year but not the second year of a long term deal. Give me a break.

First, how is sitting him going to help the team. T.O. is THE best receiver in the league. Second, where did you ever get the notion that T.O. doesn't play hard? Cocky, sure, greedy, sure, but not a hard worker, hardly. Everyone he's played with would tell you that.

First you see my (new and improved) avatar? I could care less if the EAGLES IN OUR division sit out TO. That is a good thing and not only that I wouldn't let this AROGANT you know what try to destroy my team.

Second did you watch what he did in SF? All the dropped passes because he was TO... as SKIP says TICKED OFF. I think what Skip says is even more true when watching what he is doing now.

He will do whatever he can to get his way. He will try and stir things up which is what he is/has already done. WTH was he fighting with Reid for? Hmm looking for a way to get out of CAMP IMO.

He signed the contract, The PA said DON'T sign it and he still did. Its his own fault along with his agents, the agent with one of the worst reps in the NFL.

And IMO TO is not the best reciever in the league. One of the best but not THE best. Actually ESPN had a great article about not needing a star WR today.

He did tail off towards the end, but he always played hard. I always think of a play when Garcia threw a pick down near the goal line...the guy started running back and after he got past midfield was all alone and the Niners pretty much gave up the TD, then TO comes flying from out of nowhere running about 3x faster then anyone on the field and runs him down and catches the dude from behind, they end up coming away with a FG. That's not going to show up on any stat line, TO had no reason to do that, but he did because he works hard for his team. I was sick of him and his crap, but I still wanted him to stay. Because with a player of his caliber, I can accept some anger. But what he is doing in Philly is rediculous and beyond the line.

I am probably one of the least impartial people to be talking about Owens. Ever since that star incident...

When I think of WR's that play 200% every game I think Rice first then Irvin. Yes I said a Niner KILL ME NOW!

as much as i hate the guy being a niner fan.... i have to admit he does hustle his *** off and gives 110% but hes no jerry rice!

I have to agree, the one thing you can't question about TO is his dedication on the field. Captain Bill noted his come from behind tackle that saved a TD. There was another I recall a few years ago when the Niners played the Steelers on monday night. Barlow broke through into the secondary on a run and TO blocked two guys to help spring him for a TD.

I still can't believe he hasn't learned a lesson from his time in SF. He had a perfect example to look at in Jerry Rice for a few years. He is in a good spot now to compete for a ring, all he has to do is shut up off the field and play. Instead he mouths off about McNabb (at least his criticism of Garcia was semi-legit, but not McNabb), holds out going into only the second year of his deal, and then argues with Reid to get kicked out of camp. Just rediculous.

We can agree the guy is a prick, but who in your opinion is a better reciever in the league now? Some work harder than T.O., like Keenen McCardell, but none are better, IMO.

T.O. IMO is similiar to moss in the respect that they are doth a double edged sword. The are outstanding receivers but you gotta but up with their antics and BS.

it is kind of funny now that if the eagles dont use T.O. the giants will have a better receiving core :D

If you are talking about TO's agent that he has now (Drew) then you are wrong. He has one of the best reps in the NFL, if not the best for getting deals done. Both players AND teams love him for the way he does his buisness. He may take more money from the teams pockets but the way he does it, they respect. This one thing with the Eagles has nothing to do with him and his rep. They dont want to pay TO more money which he thinks he deserves (to feed his family, right?) and Drew is the one trying to negotiate.

I think he is still the best right now but not by much. Moss is right there with him and even past him in some stats over the past couple years (saw a comparison on ESPN last season). Thats the only guy I see running stride for stride with him at this point. I also think Moss has better hands and a nice height advantage. TO is plain old physical and will punish anyone who is covering him.

What league are you watching. This isn't the NHL... Most of the holdouts this year are from what agent. OH thats right DREW!

He is not the most repsected by owners trust me. Not even close and in fact he has a nice/ or not so nice REP in the NFL... TO would be in camp and under control if he had a real agent. A real agent wouldn't have let him sign that deal to begin with. So now we have a TICKED OFF that showed his ugly face in SF calling GARCIA GAY! What cracks me up is people actually stick up for this AHOLE...Wasn't it TO that also blamed the SB loss on MCNABB? Are you kidding me.

The best reciever in the league as far as talent alone is Moss. (KEYWORD TALENT) not effort. TO also IMO plays nothing but a game, he wants to be looked at as the best WR. Problem is he is not Rice, he is not Irvin, He is not half as good as some of the all time great recievers that played the game. IMO he is a joke. Let me say again I am biased and very biased I admit that upfront.

He is good when you make him happy. Don't make me break out the stats the last 2 years with the Whiners. How many of you niner lovers hated him for all his dropped passes? Watch what happens this year if he actually plays. The same thing, he will drop pass after pass because he doesn't get his way.

Either way its a good thing cause now that leaves one less team we have to worry about. It is Parcels year in which he has historically brought teams into contention.

Owens and Moss

Owens and Moss were first in line for TALENT and last in line for CLASS! I hate to advocate violence, but I wish Andy would've busted that candy a$$ in the beek and left him crying on the ground like the crying 2 year old he resembles!

Once an ***, always an ***.

Basically at this point I have concluded that T.O. deserves just about any misfortune that might come his way. And given that he is currently pissing off Philly fans of all people, he better watch it, or it is going to come his way. They are rude, crude, and pretty much *******s, but one of their positive features is that they have an extremely low tolerance for B.S. like this.

how about they trade him to miami...they arent going anywhere. so how he likes being on a horrible team. :D

i was more mad how some philly fans were cheering for this guy when he came into camp. he totally blew them off anyways and ran by them just to rile them up.

It's entertainment ... Agent & T.O. & Media vs The World

He's not breaking any laws - not doing anything illegal - just being T.O.

.... my guess ... if nobody paid any attentin to him, he just go away.

The ALMIGHTY MEDIA ... putting T.O. in the headlines

Actually he's coming damn near breaching his contract, which most athletes are too dim to realize actually IS illegal. Amazing how signing your name on this immensely complex document which you have intentionally bargained for is susposed to actually be binding. I mean, who knew?

That, you are correct on ... I'm sure T.O. would find some attorney to get him outta that (heh-heh).

i love how espn keep thinking T.O. will change and come back to the eagles in a week a new man.

I bet the ravens are happy he left so they didn't have to deal with this 3 ring circus

he doesn't need to come back a new man. As long as the a-hole is still catching touchdowns, philly won't care. t.o. and moss are a wash talent wise, i only give the nod to t.o. because he puts out more effort on the field then moss, problem is getting t.o. on the field.

i'm just glad he's gone from the niners, he's his own worst enemy and really should go into tv, he's on all the time anyway, just give him his own soap opera. All the hell he raised to get to Philly and now he's trying to leave there too, it's ridiculous and such a waste of talent. Fines aren't enough, it won't stop him maybe suspensions would do it but I doubt it.

as of RIGHT NOW Moss is making out alot beter with his new team. have you heard anything about moss? nope. all i have heard is good things and hows he's all business now.

It does suck though how some of the good players in the NFL have to be such a-holes. its "egos gone wild" now. you never saw jerry rice complain about a contract or anything. he's just playing for the love of the game and trying to teach the news guys some things.

what should be done to TO. DONT LET HIM PLAY. Let him sit a year b/c he has no trade value right now b/c who's going to want his crap. if you can sow his mouth shut and have him just able to play then that'd be a different story. but the antics have killed his trade value. he did this with the niners. whined with the ravens and now the eagles.

Keep him suspended like teams have done in the past:

1. David Boston suspended a game for conduct by the Chargers
2. Terry Glenn suspended by the Pats
3. TB suspends Keyshawn Johnson for the rest of the season.

the wierd thing is all these players were gone from their respective teams at season's end (not sure about boston).
