Predictions: you can see how our playoff run shapes up. We are on a 1-game winning streak, we have 8 more at home:

-- Tonight vs Dallas would be tough, except Boogie should be back and well rested and ready to tear them a new one on our home floor, and Odom is about to go postal, or possibly just break down in tears and bawl "I wanna go home mommy!" right in the middle of the lockerroom. Either way its got to be distracting, and some of the Dallas geezers could easily develop heart palpitations from all of the excitement, and any way you look at it, we win. Record: 14-26
-- Next game vs. Atlanta could also be tough, but there is no Horford to stop Cousins who does his best Dwight imitation on them, and Josh Smith wants out and may already be playing for us by then and looking for revenge, so again, we win. Record: 15-26
-- so then we run into Golden State and Detroit, who suck on our home floor, so obviously we win two more, and the win streak runs to 5 games. Record: 17-26
-- then you get the Boston Center for Senior Care, who will have traded Rondo by that time and may collectively have broken a hip, and we just run them out of the building. Its a 6 game win streak and real momentum. Record: 18-26
-- then you get Minnesota, Memphis, Utah, all pretty decent teams, but on our home floor with a 6 game win streak and the fans going nuts, we have to be the favorites every night. The streak hits 9 by the end of the homestand Record: 21-26
-- then you go away to Golden State, on a 9 game win streak no way that weak team stops our momentum, so its 10. And then to Houston where they may have teamed up the big Gasol weenie to go with the little Kevin weenie by that point, and with 10 games in the bag for us Boogie gets revenge on Dalembert, and Chuck Hayes, back in his old stomping grounds, keeps all our kids away from the bad nacho place that gives you the trots. The win streak hits 11 by that point and we are Record: 23-26.
-- you come home vs. San Antonio then, for what once would have been a tough game, but on an 11 game win streak in the playoff hunt in front of the home fans = we are flying and win. Utah succumbs to the same mometum a few nights later, especially since they have probably traded away their vet frontline to give Favors/Kaneter run by that point, so overall the win streak will stand at 13. Record: 25-26
-- then its home against New Jersey, Minnesota, and Phoenix, all very winnable games and the streak hits 16! Record: 28-26
-- then the huge tough back to back with the Clippers who now have to view us as a threat in the playoffs. I think we win that first one at home just on pure momentum and a packed Arco, but the back to back down in LA is maybe finally too tough, and the win streak gets snapped at 17. At that point though our Record: 29-27 and we are right in the heat of the playoff race.
-- so then we're in a dogfight, we go back home for Houston, and beat a mediocre team on our home floor to start a new streak and go 30-27. Then its on the road in Dallas where we probably lose to go 30-28. Then to New Orleans where with Cousins this time we beat them easily to go 31-28. Then its to Oklahoma City where they likely crush a tired Kings team to send a message about our looming first round playoff matchup and we stand at Record: 31-29.
-- then we're back home and we can smell the playoffs and all the kids are excitted. Portland comes to town, but they are a different team on the road and have probably traded us Wallace in the interim anyway, so we stomp their fading asses. The geezers from San Anonio reappear, and we probably eke out a tight victory again there with the crowd carrying us. Then OKC appears again, and probably beats us again as they emerge as our new nemesis. and we sit at Record: 33-30
-- then its at Charlotte for the automatic win to reach 34-30, then back to OKC again where they beat us for the thrid time in two weeks to drop us to Record: 34-31
-- and then, in the final game of the season, we face our old nemesis the Lakers at home in a win or go home game in front of 18,000 screaming fans with the playoffs on the line. Should be epic.

Wow, I think Bricklayer is wearing something that distorts light. Say, something like Rosy-colored glasses?

I'll bet he is wearing rosy-colored underwear. I like the optimism as that doesn't seem common around here. Hilarious.

I have a bad feeling about the 9 game homestand. I feel as if we are going to continue losing, even to the bad teams. Hopefully I am wrong, but with this team I cannot help but be pessimistic.

It might not be quite so good a game. The "Sacramento Kings" posted from American Airlines Center on Facebook a few minutes ago. If they can't catch a flight back REAL QUICK, they're not gonna be in time for the game. ;)

Actually you could choose not to be pessimistic. Pessimism is a choice, not a fact. Looks to me like you're just trying to cover both sides of the issue. JMHO.

hahaha, i have to admit, in my off-and-on tenure at kingsfans.com, i've never once thought of or accused brickie of being any kinda blind optimist. i have to say, though, this verges on such territory...

;)

that said, serious question, basketball scholars: in the history of the nba, has there ever been a meteoric rise from the basement to the playoffs like the one the kings would have to accomplish for brick's post to become reality? its a lockout-shortened season, so i suppose anything's possible, but its just so goddamned unlikely, at this point...

now, i mentioned this in a different thread, but i sure would have liked to see the nba schedulers more evenly distribute the kings' home games this season. before wednesday's win against new orleans, the kings had played ten more road games than home games. they were, and i think they still are, leading the nba in road games played, as well as road game vs. home game differential. a veteran, playoff-bound team probably wouldn't mind having a home-heavy home stretch to end the season, because they need their momentum to pick up heading into the playoffs. a young, basement dwelling team, on the other hand, needs to build some momentum early in a season in order for the playoffs to become any kind of realistic goal to shoot for. the kings have not achieved anything that resembles forward momentum or consistent progress in this hectic season, and i honestly attribute a lot of that to their brutal schedule thus far...

now the playoffs are, more or less, a pipe dream, because this team still hasn't quite figured out how to win. they got lucky on wednesday. they really did. they played stellar defense for two straight, clutch, and crucial possessions, but they had no business being in that game at the end, as terribly as they played on the defensive side of the ball for the majority of four quarters. it took the worst team in the west, who also happens to be the most injured team in the nba, to give it up to the kings in the final seconds. in sacramento. granted, the kings were, themselves, without demarcus cousins, but they need to treat their remaining home games like diamonds for the rest of the season. improvement for young teams always occurs first at home. it should be noted, though, that a lot of the lack of improvement falls at the feet of the kings new head coach. keith smart is going to have to come off his small ball fixation if the kings are going to start winning consistently. evans (as a guard) and cousins both play big. they and the rest of the team shouldn't be forced to play small. its like telling an arsonist to rub sticks together when he's got a lighter in his pocket and a can of gasoline in the trunk of his car. the kings could easily set fire to the league with a couple of roster additions, and a more traditional approach to their rotations...

truthfully, i'm just hoping to see the kings finish the season with a .400 record or better. that would make me incredibly happy. it won't be easy, but it also constitutes a reasonable goal, and would represent both another strong close to an otherwise frustrating season, and a significant improvement on their win percentage from the last few seasons...

That's what it would take to make the playoffs...

I see a 7-2 home stand, 9-0? Brickie has been a little too deep in the briefs...;)
I guess anything is possible. Thing is, many of these games are winnable...

Are we trading Smart to Chi for Thibs?:D

Might make this a little more plausible. Let's see how we do with this homestand. I think a pissed of Mavs team is coming in tonight. Have to deal with that first.

If the team plays like it did tonight, and Cousins gets to full health i can see us beating Hawks, Golden State, Detroit, Boston (depending on what kind of road trip they are on), Minnesota, and then we probably lose to Memphis, i don't trust this team on the road, but we could get a nice streak going now.

A game like this is great right before the trade deadline. Helps for any other gm's who might be on the fence about a few of our players. I still expect something next week to happen.

I think a darkhorse in this homestand is the fans. If we get on a roll here, the fans will really start coming out and getting behind the team. That would really help them. Crowds are getting better.

LOLing as i was reading this. Just think though. What if this actually happened?

There would be joy in Kings land, then sadness with the realization that we lost our pick in the deepest of drafts. :)

Well I do seem to remember a team during a lockout shortened season going 16-7 down the stretch (including going 10-1 in their final 11 games). They made it into the playoffs as the 8th seed and proceede to take Utah to the limit in a 5 games playoff series.

And there were loyal fans of that team who went out to their local airport and welcomed their team home in the wee hours of the morning after they lost game 5.

Would this team happen to have played in a cruddy old barn named after an oil company?

Bill Simmons approves of this post.

Not only do we need to winning a ton of games but a lot other teams need to collapse. It could happen though, just need a lot of luck that us Kings fans aren't accustom to.
